This document describes three common engine cycles: 1) The Otto cycle used in cars and airplanes, which involves adiabatic expansion, adiabatic compression, and isochoric expansion. 2) The Diesel cycle used in generators, trucks, buses and cars, which involves isobaric, adiabatic, and isochoric processes. 3) The Rankine cycle used in steam engines, which involves adiabatic expansion, isochoric compression, adiabatic compression, and isochoric expansion.
