Just as critical to the feasibility of a study is the stated rationale for selecting a specific research design. This week, you are introduced to two research designs that have several features in common; there are also stark contrasts that are identifiable.
For this week’s assignment, consider what you have learned about the case study and phenomenological research designs. Using the same research problem developed in Week 1, how could you use these designs to gain insights to fulfill the purpose of your study?
Begin by selecting the approach that best fits the problem. Use the resources provided, and at least three other peer-reviewed articles to defend your choice (two pages minimum). Create a one-page critique of the other research design that includes arguments why the design may not suitable for researching your problem. Include a summary of the key arguments for your choice.

The topic of this week's assignment included reading all of the material that was required satisfactorily to explain the required information. With the required reading and the research project that you discussed in week one's assignment, you were to determine which of the two types of qualitative research designs that you read about this week would fit your topic that you explained in the first week's assignment by discussing and critiquing within two pages how you would use that type of design to plan your project. Then, you were to take one full page to critique how the design that you found that would not be suitable in fitting your proposed research project by using key arguments, which you would have found in your required reading. These required three pages of critique and discussion did not include your introduction or conclusion of your research paper. Therefore, this project was supposed to be succinct enough to clearly and concisely explain your thought process in a scholarly paper (using citations for all information) to only include up to four pages total.

Professional resources refer to books or journal articles, not Wikipedia or other non-professional sources.

There are several key steps that you’ll need to follow in order to write a complete and engaging
discussion board post. For every discussion post, you need to:
1. UNDERSTAND what the discussion is asking you to do
2. READ all required or supplemental materials
3. WRITE the post, and
4. REVIEW using the Discussion Post Checklist
Now, let’s go through each of these important steps in more detail.
First, break down the instructions of the discussion and take notes to understand exactly
what you need to do to complete it.
a. Identify the purpose or goal of the discussion post and how it relates to the course concepts
under review for the week.
b. Be sure to note any required course reading, such as the instructor guidance, chapters from
your textbook, or an article or webpage.
c. Look for key terms in the instructions—these are terms or course concepts that you will see in
the reading for the week, or that you have become familiar with in earlier weeks of the course. Be
sure to underline, highlight, or note these key words, as these are the themes that you will focus
on in your discussion post this week.
d. Make note of any key questions or directives that you are asked to address. If these
questions/directives are already in a bulleted or numbered list, great! But if they are not, go ahead
and number them so you can later use them as a checklist for yourself.
*Note- Directives are action verbs in the instructions that tell you what to do. Examples that you
might see include Define, Explain, Describe, or Discuss. The Writing Center’s guide on
Understanding the Verbs in Your Prompt can help you understand the expectations of each of
these directive words.
e. Note any additional requirements such as word count or APA formatting.
f. Finally, if a grading rubric is provided, be sure to review each part of it. The rubric can be used
as a checklist to ensure you have completed each of the requirements of the discussion.
This may sound like a lot of work now, but it actually only takes 10 to 15 minutes to go through the
instructions and make notes on what needs to be accomplished. These few minutes will save you time
when you begin writing and will help you to write a better post.

Plan
Include a specific plan, including medications & dosing & titration considerations, lab work ordered, referrals to psychiatric and medical providers, therapy recommendations, holistic options and complimentary therapies, and rationale for your decisions. You should answer ONE of the above questions in a well-thought out and developed
argument essay with:
• A clear introduction that sets up the issue, explains your topics, and ends with your
thesis statement.
• Body paragraphs focusing on one topic in support of your argument in each paragraph.
o You need three reliable and academic sources for this assignment in support of
your argument. You should include evidence that is directly quoted, paraphrased,
or summarized to support each topic. The evidence should have appropriate in-
text citations.
o You will typically want to include one piece of evidence in the body of each
paragraph, as you did in the paragraph and pro/con assignment. You are not
required to include a source about the counterargument (other side of your

How effective do you feel you have been in convincing the readers to agree with your position? Mark any passages that need improvement or additional support. Pay attention to areas where your instructor has provided feedback. 2. What part of this paper are you the most proud of? Include a quotation and/or description from your essay as an example. Explain why you think this part is effective. How might you amplify strengths like this in the final paper?Make a note to yourself within your draft to remind you where you want to expand on the strengths you’ve mentioned. 3. Review your thesis statement in the introduction and any comments from your instructor and include it here on the worksheet. Is your thesis statement a complete sentence that reflects the main argument and does it contain 3 supporting reasons? If not, what changes will you make to revise it? (Review the readings related to writing and refining your thesis in the Week 1 learning activities if you need additional support.) 4. How, specifically, did you get the reader’s attention in the introduction? What style or approach did you use, and what did you hope to achieve by using it? If this part of your paper needs improvement, what strategy might you try instead? Why might this be a stronger strategy? Apply that change to the final paper. 5. Examine the research you collected and used for support. In your rough draft, underline or highlight all the places where you have used evidence within the paper. Is each body paragraph
- 2. supported by at least one piece of evidence, and is it compelling? Does the research come from multiple sources, of which at least one is peer-reviewed? Make a note to yourself about places within each paragraph where you will want to revise the evidence you present and where you might need to add research to support your ideas. Check the citations against the references. Do they match up? If not, what revision must you make? 6. Do you feel that your paper shows a fair and balanced approach to your issue? If so, what did you do within the paper to ensure that was the case? If not, what specific changes will you make to be more balanced in your argument? How did you overcome any personal bias? 7. Go to the last paragraph of your paper and read the last sentence of that paragraph. Does the sentence make sense? Does it use proper grammar, punctuation, and any APA style necessary? If not, make note of the changes you will need to make during revision. Do this same type of review moving backwards through the essay, sentence by sentence. As you review your writing in this way, you might notice errors and patterns that you missed when reading from beginning to end. What did you discover in terms of research content, style, language, or grammar in your draft? What are at least 2 resources that you can use to help strengthen and support your writing in these areas? 8. Use one of the reviewing services available in the Center for Writing Excellence to review this document.
