This paper analyzes energy-efficient neighbor selection algorithms for routing in flat wireless sensor networks, focusing on maximizing network lifetime through reduced energy consumption during data transmission. The authors compare two strategies: selecting the neighbor with the most residual energy and choosing paths that consume the least energy among available options. Results indicate that the minimum energy consumption route (MECRT) outperforms the highest energy (HE) strategy, particularly in medium to large networks, in terms of energy efficiency and network longevity.
