Energy is a property that can be transferred or converted into different forms. The sun provides energy for life on Earth through photosynthesis in plants. ATP is produced through cellular respiration and stores energy that organisms use for functions like movement. There are three main energy systems: immediate/phosphocreatine uses stored creatine phosphate and lasts seconds; lactic acid/short-term breaks down glycogen and glucose anaerobically and lasts minutes; aerobic/long-term uses oxygen to break down glucose and fatty acids aerobically, lasting over a minute. Each system powers different durations and intensities of exercise and sport.
