This document discusses opportunities in water infrastructure over the next 20 years. It notes factors like aging infrastructure, health protection, and economics of water supply that will drive convergence of opportunities. Major opportunities will include development of intelligent infrastructure with smart water networks using cheap, easy to install sensors producing massive data. This will enable unprecedented system monitoring and control, extending the life of aging pipes, and optimizing costs. Smart networks could save the world's largest utilities up to $12.5 billion annually. The author argues this presents a leadership opportunity for Ontario.
