“ Energy Efficiency” “ Energy Conservation” - The watchwords of the 21 st Century We are all concerned and want to play our part. Turn off that appliance when not required, adjust the heating, switch off that light – it all helps with savings in Gas and Electricity. But what about that resource which is so important in the Third World but is taken for granted elsewhere? WATER!!!!!! Water Utility Companies and their Customers want to improve their efficiency, and WaterSpy can help them by providing the information they need to achieve tangible results.
Businesses concerned by water use By Roger Harrabin Environment Analyst, BBC News 12 th November 2010 Some 60% of firms have already set performance targets on the way they use water Future water shortages are a growing concern for business, according to a global survey published today. The research shows that more than half of the 147 firms responding expect problems with water in the next 1-5 years. It says 60% of firms have already set performance targets on the way they use water. The report predicts that the issue will get much worse as the world demand for water is projected to soar over the next few decades. The UK's chief scientist John Beddington has warned that water scarcity will form part of a perfect storm of environmental problems. The above article was in the BBC News Website. What is WaterSpy? WaterSpy is a set of tools developed by French company Homerider Systems and distributed by EVS in Ireland, which can provide Water Usage information to identify efficiency improvements with the minimum of disruption. Components : Water Trak a self powered (10 yrs minimum battery life) Radio Transceiver which can be attached to any technology equipped Water Meter to collect data and transmit the information at regular intervals. CR100 a small mains powered concentrator used to receive the transmissions from the Water Trak and send them via the GPRS mobile network to an Internet database. Repeater a self powered (10yrs minimum battery life) radio Transceiver used to increase the range of a Water Trak. Nemo Internet based Graphical User Interface showing the analysis of the data provided.
How does WaterSpy work ? The Water Trak module is configured to collect and store readings at preset intervals (normally hourly but can be 5,15,30 or 60 minutes). Every 12 hours the Water Trak will send its stored data via Low Power radio (868 mHz) to the CR100 concentrator (this may be via a Repeater depending on distance) At pre-configured intervals (normally once per day) the CR100 will send the collected data from all the Water Traks within range to the Internet based Nemo database. The Water Trak will also generate basic alarms for Tamper, Backflow, Low Battery and Persistent flow. Nemo may be configured to send Email and SMS alerts when certain criteria (e.g. Consumption > n m3) are met, giving early notification of possible problems (e.g. Leaks etc)
Continuously listening Can receive and transmit data of up to 32 points Multiservices Configuration by radio or servers Up to 3 levels of repeaters in daisy chain Powered by battery (life time: 10y) IP 68 built Operating temperature (-20°C / +55°C) CR100 Repeater Repeater The WaterSpy Repeaters Water Trak®
The WaterSpy Network CONCENTRATES DATA TRANSFER ON INTERNET GENERATION OF STATISTICS Cr100 Repeaters REPEATS RADIO FRAMES GENERATION OF STATISTICS Water Trak ACQUISITION/GENERATION AND DATA TRANSMISSION INTERNET Supervision & remote configurtaion of equipments (modules, repeaters, concentrators) Data management of specific information Services to Utility and Customer Professional data SERVERS DATA BASE (Oracle) INTERNET
Once WaterSpy data is collected, it is sent to the Homerider Linux servers and made available online using a personalised market application - Nemo A suite of 130 servers (blades) Linux based ORACLE data base Permanent back up Based in 2 different secured centres distant of 500 kms Permanent monitoring of network performance.
NEMO – User interface to WaterSPY information. Meters being monitored may be clustered by Location or by Company . Individual User Login and Password Standard graphic charts of Consumption, Min Max Flow, Flow Profile, Backflow and Index History. CSV format exports available for the interval data. Alarm settings available with up to 3 Email contacts and 3 SMS contacts for instant alerts. Always available standard Web access.

Is that it ?
Also to invest in future,… Once the WaterSpy network is established then additional Homerider developed monitoring modules may be added to utilise the existing CR100 concentrator. Trak Modules are available for Gas and Water Meters, Heat Meters, Temperature Control, Recycle Bins, Bottle Banks and Pressure Monitors - the list is almost endless. User Interfaces are available to databases which display and control the additional modules in a similar fashion as Nemo.
