The document summarizes Rotary's efforts to eradicate polio globally through their PolioPlus program. It provides statistics on polio cases from 2016-2019 and details how Rotary funds vaccination and immunization efforts in over 120 countries. Rotary has committed over $2.2 billion to polio eradication including $985 million in matching funds from the Gates Foundation. Their support accounts for 10% of total contributions and 31% of private sector giving to eradicate this disease.

This one-day conference explored the current pharmaceutical pricing landscape by bringing together leaders from the pharmaceutical industry, policymakers, legal practitioners, and scholars to engage in novel, interdisciplinary discussions to better understand current challenges and articulate best practices to address these issues. Participants assessed the current challenges presented in drug pricing policy, from development to delivery, in both the United States and international context. We also explored and articulated best practices to expand access to medicines and worked toward developing a plan for disseminating these practices more widely.
Nigeria was declared polio free in September, 2015. Two years after, two cases were reported in the northern Borno state. To inhibit spread and completely safeguard the health of Nigerians, recent campaign is developed to end Polio once again.
Capturing lessons to strengthen routine immunization & introduce new vaccinesJSI
This presentation illustrates the importance of routine immunization in its role of saving more lives than any other health service and reducing rates of preventable deaths. In order for this to continue, the foundation must be solid and stable for the structure of routine immunization system to endure all types of disease eliminations, interventions, and vaccination cycles. Countries are now making the transition from RED to REC to improve equity, access and complete immunization. Age groups targeted to receive vaccines include infants, young children, pre-adolescents, Women of child bearing age and expanded age groups during campaigns. Over the last 20+ years there has been a substantial increase in NVI.

As the UNICEF Office of Research-Innocenti, we conduct research to inform policymaking and implementation. This project brief summarizes our research activities on Child Poverty.
In order to support country governments with informed programming for children at sub national level, UNICEF Kenya came up with unique way of representing data dealing with Child Rights – Child Deprivation Index and County Infographics for all 47 counties. The child deprivation index is an innovative way of measuring multi-dimensional poverty and rights deprivation for children by county. The child deprivation index and other data at county level were collated and used to generate county data sheets and infographics which were then presented to county governments. The Infographics present national and county indicators in thematic areas including demographics, education, water and sanitation, maternal and child health and HIV, nutrition and child protection.
Index of child deprivation developed based on 13 indicators in domains of health, education, and material wellbeing. Counties are ranked according to their level of deprivation, and their contribution to national child deprivation.

On Tuesday, 10 May 2022, the International Longevity Centre UK (ILC) and the Coalition for Life-course Immunisation (CLCI) hosted a webinar on the role immunisation can play in getting tourism moving again in a post-COVID Europe.
The event was chaired by Patrick Swain, Coordinator of the CLCI-ILC alliance.
Speakers included:
Dr Daphné Holt (Chair, CLCI)
Sophia Dimitriadis (Senior Economist, ILC)
Professor Mark Doherty (Senior Manager, Global Medical Affairs, GSK)
Isabel de la Mata (Principal Advisor, Health and Crisis Management, DG SANTE)
Annagrazia Laura (President, European Network for Accessible Tourism)
COVID-19 has demonstrated the threat posed by infectious diseases: over 5 million people have died and $4 trillion could be lost worldwide due to the pandemic’s impact on tourism. Yet immunisation has played an important role in curbing the pandemic: vaccines have saved 470,000 Europeans aged 60+ and many economies are now recovering.
It’s not just COVID-19 vaccines that protect people’s health and the economy. Previous ILC research has shown that flu vaccination can prevent 245,000 cases in over-65s and save almost £29 million in sick days annually. As over-65s account for 23% of tourism nights spent by EU residents, the European travel sector could benefit the most from routine vaccination and healthier ageing populations.
In this webinar, ILC and CLCI showcased their key research findings on the social and economic benefits of vaccination. We were joined by industry experts who shared their views on how vaccines can help Europe’s tourism industry beyond COVID-19.

Russian anarchist and anti-war movement in the third year of full-scale warAntti Rautiainen
Anarchist group ANA Regensburg hosted my online-presentation on 16th of May 2024, in which I discussed tactics of anti-war activism in Russia, and reasons why the anti-war movement has not been able to make an impact to change the course of events yet. Cases of anarchists repressed for anti-war activities are presented, as well as strategies of support for political prisoners, and modest successes in supporting their struggles.

Although it currently circulates in only a few countries, polio is highly infectious and spreads rapidly.
The disease, which afflicts mainly children, is transmitted via contaminated water and food supplies.
Five to 10 percent of cases are fatal. As long as polio threatens even one child anywhere in the world,
children everywhere are at risk. Only the global eradication of polio will ensure that no child ever again
suffers its devastating effects.
WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
• If polio is not eradicated, within 10 years, as
many as 200,000 children will be paralyzed by it
each year.
• In 2018, more than 400 million children were
vaccinated multiple times using more than two
billion doses of oral polio vaccine. This will be
done every year until the world is certified polio
free. Rotary funds will help do this.
• To date, 122 countries have benefited from
PolioPlus grants.
• Since 1988, the number of polio endemic
countries declined from over 125 to three.
• In 2017, under an expanded partnership with
the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, every $1
Rotary commits to polio eradication will be
matched 2-to-1 (up to $ 50 million per year)
through 2020.
On average,
a child can be fully
protected against
polio for US$3.
Since 1998,
Vitamin A
supplements
have been added
to polio immunization
activities, helping to avert
an estimated 1.5 million
childhood deaths.

FUNDING
• A new strategy called the Polio Eradication, Integration, and Certification: The Endgame Strategy 2019-
2023 is being drafted. Rotary is extending our matching agreement with the Gates Foundation to raise US$50
million per year to be matched 2:1 to support the new strategic plan.
• By the time the world is certified polio-free, Rotary’s contributions to the global polio eradication effort will
exceed US$2.2 billion, including US$985 million in matching funds from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation.
• Rotary’s contribution to the GPEI since 1988 accounts for nearly 10% of all contributions through June 2018
and approximately 31% of private sector giving.
Distribution of Grants 2010-2018:

What is circulating vaccine-derived virus?
In populations with low-immunization coverage, it is possible for the weakened virus used in the oral
vaccine to circulate in the environment long enough to undergo genetic changes that can cause
paralysis. This is called vaccine derived poliovirus and is tracked separately than cases of wild
poliovirus. When a population if fully immunized, they will be protected against both vaccine derived
and wild polioviruses.
