Under Augustus, the empire experienced the Pax Romana, a 200-year period of relative peace and stability. Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

patents on innovation and marketing management from the
USA, Australia, India, and Canada. He has served as a

Eight years past earning a prestigious
Masters in Mineral Engineering from a
premier Institute, Indian School of
Mine (Now IIT Dhanbad), Mr Dinkar
Rao entered the field of industrial
consumable sales. This exciting route
turned into an information crucible that
exposed the inner workings of
businesses, human nature, and the
complex web of trade to him. The
tough nature of sales became evident to
him throughout the numerous obstacles
faced on his journey.
The journey involved a great deal of
labour and travel, frequently to the
most remote and inaccessible regions
of India. It was under these difficult
conditions that a passion for growing
and supporting people became
apparent. As the passion for developing
people's potential gained the stage, the
career of a coach became clear for Mr
Dinkar Rao.
After then, the trip carried on,
exploring the world of self-help
literature and setting the groundwork
for a future journey involving coaching
and training. The life-changing
moment came when he was thirty-two
years old and accepted a ten-year
employment offer from a global
consulting firm that was well-known in
Sweden and rest of Europe. This was
the point at which the real change

variables like infrastructure or the

accountability was the motivating factor
instead. He chose the tough path,

between the ages of 25 and 32, while
the world was shifting towards IT.
Mr Dinkar came to see that the
discomfort served as a stimulus for
development. It made him appreciate
the possibilities and resources that came
his way. Even if it seemed dazzling on
the outside, the consulting career that
followed involved a lot of research and
introspection. However, the challenges
he faced in his early career turned into a
galore of possibilities. Even back when
he sold Welding consumables used for
reclamation, he learned the value of
responsibility, excellence, and enjoying
problem-solving during those early
years.
Now, as he guides and mentors the
younger generation, he makes sure to
emphasize the significance of a strong
value system learned from family and
life's situations. He has observed that
those with a clear mission, whether it's
to support family, village, or fulfill
responsibilities, emerge as corporate
rock stars. Mr Rao strives to be an
encouragement in organizations, he
believes that one person can be
equivalent to a hundred, learned from

had to start from nothing and rose

He endured many difficulties as a
young boy, but he never wavered in his
resolve to give his siblings access to a
good education. To make money meet,
Shankar and his mother took on
various household jobs, but their
struggles only strengthened his resolve.
He even worked at a printing press
after school hours to supplement his
money until he landed a job at a
garment store, where he made a
respectable Rs. 300 per month. He also
put in additional hours at a factory that
made pockets and other products in
order to pay for his siblings’ and his
own education. His extraordinary
resiliency and self-made character are
demonstrated by these situations.
Academic Pursuits and Philanthropy
Shankar turned to education as a ray of
hope and pursued it assiduously. He
has earned several academic degrees,
including the FCA, ICWA, MBA, M.
Com, SET, LLB, FAFD, and GDCA,
and he has taken the Ph.D. examination.
He was one of just two people in his
district to pass the State Eligibility Test
(SET), which the Maharashtra
government instituted in 2004. After
passing his Chartered Accountancy
examinations in 2006, he had already
started down the path to becoming one
of Ahmednagar’s top CAs.
His quest involves much more than just
his own accomplishment. He regularly
oversaw the financial operations of
numerous organizations, including
schools, hospitals, and non-profit
organizations, from 2006 until 2023.
He also spoke online for the IIU, other
trusts, and financial organizations,
demonstrating his dedication to both
service and education. By paying their
tuition, giving them uniforms, and
providing stationery, Shankar even gave
many disadvantaged kids free

application for a job in 2008 at the
Shirdi Sai Baba Mandir, one of India’s
holiest shrines. He was given an
advising position on the temple
committee, where he has worked ever
since.

upholding both his professional and
ethical principles. He came up with a
brilliant idea instead of turning away
temple authorities who needed his help
with accounting and taxation. Although
he did not charge for his services, the
money they would have spent on them
was donated to the temple.
Shankar has provided this selfless
service to more than 365 spiritual
institutions over the years, including
temples, gurudwaras, mosques,
schools, hospitals, and NGOs,
conserving various devotees’ donations
and earning recognition under the India
Trust Act in the process.
