Nerva reigned from 96-98 AD as the last Italian emperor. During his short 16 month reign, he reversed the harsh policies of Domitian by granting amnesty to exiles and freed prisoners. He was well-liked and nicknamed "Father of the Country". Nerva suddenly took ill after sweating and developing a fever, and died at the age of 68 on January 28, 98 AD after just over a year on the throne.
