This document discusses opportunities for interdisciplinary research at the Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL) using integrated informatics approaches. It notes that the MBL and Woods Hole region have unique strengths including a long history of data collection, rich biological samples and specimens, and interdisciplinary informatics capacity. Leveraging these strengths could position the MBL as a leader in new areas of large-scale, interdisciplinary "big science" through collaborations across research centers and partner institutions. Specific opportunities mentioned include a National Science Foundation program on the dimensions of biodiversity that could engage multiple MBL research centers.
