Jennie Louise Blanchard was the first woman admitted to the American Institute of Architects in 1888 and the first woman fellow in 1889. She apprenticed at two architectural firms in Buffalo, NY before opening her own practice in 1881. Her designs included civic buildings, schools, power stations, and homes.
