Elton Mayo conducted the Hawthorne Experiments from 1924-1927 to study the impact of workplace factors like illumination on employee productivity. The experiments found that productivity increased even when illumination decreased, showing other social and psychological factors were more important. The experiments consisted of four parts: an illumination study, a relay assembly test, employee interviews, and a bank wiring test. Overall, the experiments demonstrated that factors like feeling valued, participation, and good social relations significantly increased employee motivation and productivity more than logical or economic factors alone.
In this presentation, you will be able to find details of Hawthorne Studies including the side effects of the study that you will not find anywhere else. A table has been presented which clarified the concept like nowhere else.

A brief about the Hawthorne Experiments, its inferences and its legacy.
The presentation also contains the take-away from each experiment, and the kind of tasks where the learning from these studies can be applied.
It also includes a couple of points over which the Hawthorne studies have been criticized by sociologists.

The Hawthorne studies, which were conducted by Elton Mayo and Fritz Roethlisberger in the 1920s with the workers at the Hawthorne plant of the Western Electric Company, were part of an emphasis on socio-psychological aspects of human behavior in organizations.

The Hawthorne effect (also referred to as the observer effect) refers to a phenomenon whereby workers improve or modify an aspect of their behavior in response to the fact of change in their environment, rather than in response to the nature of the change itself. The "Hawthorne effect" study suggested that the novelty of having research conducted and the increased attention from such could lead to temporary increases in productivity. This effect was observed for minute increases in illumination. In these lighting studies, light intensity was altered to examine its effect on worker productivity. Most industrial/occupational psychology and organizational behavior textbooks refer to the illumination studies. Only occasionally are the rest of the studies mentioned
Organizational behavior (OB) is the study of the way people interact within groups. Normally this study is applied in an attempt to create more efficient business organizations. The central idea of the study of organizational behavior is that a scientific approach can be applied to the management of workers. http://www.thefreshquotes.com/attitude-quotes/

Book Formatting: Quality Control Checks for DesignersConfidence Ago
This presentation was made to help designers who work in publishing houses or format books for printing ensure quality.
Quality control is vital to every industry. This is why every department in a company need create a method they use in ensuring quality. This, perhaps, will not only improve the quality of products and bring errors to the barest minimum, but take it to a near perfect finish.
It is beyond a moot point that a good book will somewhat be judged by its cover, but the content of the book remains king. No matter how beautiful the cover, if the quality of writing or presentation is off, that will be a reason for readers not to come back to the book or recommend it.
So, this presentation points designers to some important things that may be missed by an editor that they could eventually discover and call the attention of the editor.

• This experiment was conducted to establis relationship
between output and illumination
• The output showed an upward trend even when the
illumination was gradually brought down to the normal
level
• it was concluded that there is no consistent relationship
between output of workers and illumination in the factory
• There must be some other factor which affected
productivity
5. 2. Relay Assembly Test Room Experiment
• This phase aimed at knowing not only the impact of
illumination on production
• In this experiment a small homogeneous work-group of six
girls was constituted
• These girls were friendly to each other and were asked to
work in a very informal atmosphere under the supervision
