Chula Vista Bayfront Development Opportunity Marketing BrochurePort of San Diego
The Port of San Diego has issued a Request for Qualifications to seek a developer for a signature convention destination resort hotel as part of the Chula Vista Bayfront (CVB). The CVB project is one of the last great waterfront development opportunities in California and is creating a legacy destination for the public. It will transform 535 acres on San Diego Bay into a world-class destination for local residents and visitors.
1. Portfolio of Project Experience
Ignition Park, South Bend, Indiana
Responsibilities included the site design of this campus-like setting for a nanotechnology park
within downtown South Bend. The 140 acres of Phase I sit on the northeast quadrant of the
reclaimed downtown South Bend site that was the former home to Studebaker manufacturing.
The process required close collaboration with the private developer, the City of South Bend and
Notre Dame University. The nanotechnology campus is only one of four in the nation.

2. Marina and Waterfront Design, United States and Internationally
Site design and composition of feasibility
studies for the creation of new and
improvements to existing waterfront
marinas along Lake Michigan’s shoreline,
the Mississippi River, and as far as the
Indian Ocean. Marina design experience
includes clients such as:
The Chicago Yacht Club
South Haven’s Hartshorn Marina
Marina at Portage, Indiana
Cedar River, Michigan
Clinton Marina, Mississippi River, Iowa
The Maldives
3. Harbor Shores Golf Course Design and Feasibility Study, Benton Harbor, Michigan
I started working on this project in
2003 with the acquisition of vacant,
blighted, and brownfield parcels
throughout the City of Benton
Harbor, Michigan; working in
collaboration with Cornerstone
Alliance, the Whirlpool Corporation,
and the Cities of Benton Harbor and
St. Joseph. From project- inception,
the goal was to create the
preliminary master land use plan
that mapped out this 530-acre
mixed-use development, including
a Jack Nicklaus signature course.
The Harbor Shores Golf Course is
now host to the Senior PGA tour,
currently scheduled through 2018.
4. City Plaza, Mishawaka, Indiana
This commercial and retail
complex includes establishments
such as Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse,
Wine and Canvas, and a variety of
higher-end boutiques. The site is 20
acres in size. Design considerations
included on-site drainage,
ingress/egress, landscaping,
outdoor seating spaces, and traffic
circulation.
Addison Circle, Plano, Texas
This new construction of a mixed-use
community included high-end multi-
family residential and
office/commercial spaces. My
involvement included extensive
landscape design and detail work
with special emphasis on
streetscape and gathering places.
5. Urban and Regional Planning
Variety of experience working with
municipalities to create adopted plans
for their communities. The planning
process includes extensive interface with
municipal officials, both elected and
appointed, community stakeholders and
the general public. Round-table
workshops and public hearings are a
regular part of the process. The final
products highlight the priorities and visions
of each community through careful
planning for present and future land
usage.
6. Edgewater Development, St. Joseph, Michigan
This mixed-use development
included office/retail spaces at a
community center as well as a
technology park and a 100 lot
residential subdivision. In addition,
between this site and Lake
Michigan, a small parcel was
subdivided and designed into
estate lot homes along the Lake
Michigan waterfront.
7. Legacy Village, Plano, Texas
Legacy Village is a multi-family
development centered near an urban
core. The development was designed
to create desirable urban spaces for
citizens to live and work, all while
promoting a walkable lifestyle within
this community setting. Responsibilities
included design work with team
members and construction drawings
and documentation.
8. Block 572, Dallas, Texas
Block 572 is one of the many
downtown urban renewal projects
that I had the pleasure of working on.
Our landscape architectural group
collaborated with the City of Dallas
and private developers to demolish
urban blighted areas, block by block
in an effort to revitalize the downtown
into a thriving urban community,
complete with walkable streets, retail
and commerce on the first floor, and
high-end multi-family residences with
interior courtyards, pools, and
fountains. Vehicular parking was
handled, both, on-street and via
internal parking garages.
9. Stonebridge Ranch Aquatic Center, McKinney, Texas
Responsibilities including working with
the design team to complete the
design and construction drawings for
phase I of the aquatic center. Project
features include custom designed
water features, swimming pools, a
zero-entry pool, and landscaping,
grading and furniture planning.
