2. The redevelopment of Cleveland’s Lakefront included a critical study of its most
prominent byway: the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway. Working closely with
the engineers tasked with realigning its key access points, the project sought to
develop an interactive experience that would bridge the gap between city and
Great Lake. Interpretive trail heads, green infrastructure and dramatic landscapes
will provide a valuable amenity to pedestrians, bicyclists and commuters alike.

3. Honoring the dreams of city leaders past and present, the restoration of Historic League Park sought to
create a functioning baseball facility built to the exact, albeit unusual, dimensions of the original
diamond. Worked with the City of Cleveland to develop a site design package and construction documents
for the field, a plaza space, and a community park that would represent Cleveland's storied sports past while
addressing the very present needs of the Hough community. Completed in August 2014, the new ballpark is
a regional drawto baseball leagues, community residents, and sports fanatics alike.

6. Expansion of the Ronald McDonald House in Cleveland
called for the redevelopment of its grounds and
landscaping. Careful consideration of the site, its
spaces and value to residents of the House meant
understanding its users and how access to outdoor
spaces affects the healing process. Following
completion of construction, the new grounds will
provide families staying at Ronald House gardens and
play spaces for respite, reflection and recreation alike.

7. The ability to visualize is a crucial step in
understanding the impact a
proposed development will have on a
region. When an area as developed as
Kamm’s Corners is studied, the need is
even greater and thus every
improvement must be weighed carefully.
These overlay sketches served as a
valuable tool for demonstrating to the
client its options for streetscape

Promenade Shops at Saucon
Valley made the client’s vision
for an outdoor regional
shopping center a reality.
Located near historic Lehigh
Valley, the Promenade features
almost half a million square
feet of retail, restaurants and
entertainment in a 60-acre
“town center.” Adhering to
the Township’s exacting
guidelines, the million dollar
landscape required frequent
site visits throughout
construction in order to be
completed in time for its
October 2006 grand opening.

Located on the outskirts of
Pittsburgh, Settlers Ridge is a
jewel within a popular big-box
shopping haven. The
center opened in October 2009
to offer its region a much
needed upscale retail,
dining and entertainment
destination. During planning
and design, however, the
economic downturn impacted
the tenant mix and
construction costs. Quick
but creative sketch
solutions such as these
adapted the plan to the
project’s ever changing budget
and program.

Budget constraints led to
value-engineering throughout
production of the construction
documents. Despite cutbacks
that limited material choices
and amenities, it was crucial to
develop a plan that would
retain the project’s
intended elegance and
functionality. An interesting
scoring pattern, sparing use of
high-quality furnishings and
austere landscaping work in
tandem to create a unified
streetscape vernacular
throughout the center and a
simple, multi-functional central
plaza space.

Presently the declining campus
of a technology company’s
former headquarters, the
future of this site became the
focus of heated debates and
fodder for political platforms in
this New England bedroom
community. The challenge was
to create a plan to not only
revitalize the site, but also
create a mixed-use center that
would bring the concept of
live-work-play into one
development. Responding to
the Township’s own
Comprehensive Plan and the
site’s context, detailed site
plans such as these were
presented at community
meetings where citizens could
voice their concerns or show
support for the project.

During completion of the
design of the NEO Facility,
concerns from the neighboring
residents regarding light and
noise from the new office
sparked the preparation of a
landscape plan that would
demonstrate to the city and its
citizens an effort to screen
the project from adjacent
properties. Guided by the
most stringent buffering
requirements outlined in the
city’s zoning ordinance, the
plan, featuring dense plant
material and mounding,
won Avery Dennison approval
to proceed with construction.
The construction documents
and a detailed punch list
ensured that the plan was
installed as approved.

19. study model
This residential client had a
long wish list of amenities for
his confined backyard space.
Frequently the hosts of large
get-togethers, he asked that
the plan include a fireplace,
outdoor kitchen and wet bar, a
two-sided fireplace, and, most
importantly, comfortable
seating for large groups.
This SketchUp model was an
important tool in determining
the placement of these
elements as well as
understanding the “feel”
of the spaces both
independently and as they
would relate to each other.
