painter born in 1940
 At the age of 14, he saw an
exhibition of Jackson Pollack's
abstract paintings
 He went home afterwards and
dripped paint on his paintings
like Pollack
 Another thing that he really
liked about Pollack’s art was
that all areas of his paintings
were given equal importance

• Throughout his career, he has concentrated on painting
portraits from photographs he’s taken.
• His art style has been called Photo-Realism, Minimalism and
Abstract Expressionism.

disabled, I was learning
disabled,” Close said. “ At that
time there was no such thing
as dyslexia. You were just
dumb and lazy.”
In addition to dyslexia, he had
neuromuscular problems, so
he couldn’t run or throw a ball.
He wanted desperately to get
attention, so he decided to
focus on what he could do and
not on what he could not do.”

10. So he turned art. He started
his formal training as an
artist when he was eight.
Close also suffers from a
condition called face
blindness. By painting
portraits, he is better able to
recognize and remember
faces.
“Everything that I do is a
direct outgrowth of my
learning disabilities,” Close
said.

1.Make a grid of eight lines across by six down
2. Draw 3 to 4 shapes
3. You can draw circles, squares, triangles,
rectangles, half moons or make up your own
shapes
