The Avocado
THE ORIGIN OF THE AVOCADO
• The origin of the avocado is
in the upper parts of central
and eastern Mexico and
upper Guatemala.
After the conquest of
Cupanda, the purepecha
avocado tree was introduced
in Spain in 1600. From there
it spread throughout the
world in regions with the
best environmental
conditions for its
development. In colonial
times Spain introduced the
avocado to other American
countries and Europe.
NUTRITIONAL COMPOSITION OF AVOCADO:
• It is a fruit rich
in
monounsaturated
fat, like olive oil,
so its use is highly
recommended for
cardiovascular
health.

NUTRITIONAL VALUE:
• Fats are the main
component after water,
so its calorific value is
high. It provides a lower
amount of
carbohydrates than
protein. As for the fat
it contains, it is mostly
monounsaturated; 72%
of the total fat is oleic
acid an olive oil
characteristic. It is rich
in minerals like
potassium, magnesium
and low in sodium.
Advantages and disadvantages of
their use:
• By fat content and
vitamin E intake it is
recommended for people
with cardiovascular risk,
but it is high in calories,
so it has to be moderate
if you are overweight or
obese.
On the other hand, the
contribution of
potassium is very high,
so those with significant
renal impairment should
watch their diet if they
follow a controlled
potassium diet.
YOUR ROUTE IN MALAGA:
•
In Málaga there is no
exclusive party for the
avocado. However there
is a party in Colombia.
Avocado Route: Rincón
de la Victoria,
Macharaviaya, Vélez-
Málaga, Benaque, Torre
del Mar, Benamocarra,
Iznate and
Benamargosa.
COLLECTING THE AVOCADO:
• Prolonged droughts cause
the leaves to fall, which
reduces performance.
Excessive rainfall during
flowering reduces the
production and causes the
fruit to fall. The land for
cultivation should have
good natural protection
against the wind or in its
absence establish a
windbreak barrier,
preferably one year
before the establishment
of the plantation. The
wind greatly influences
the flowering ability of
this fruit.
