4. His Military Life Lee joined the 33rd Virginia Infantry as a 2nd Lieutenant in April of 1861. Soon became 1st Lieutenant under General Thomas J. “Stonewall” Jackson. Became a Major then Lieutenant Colonel. Soon became Colonel but was captured after Antietam . Became General on Sept. 23rd 1864.
