EDUCATIONAL
SYSTEM
(ANCIENT TO
MODERN TIMES)
From an early age, the children would be
going out to the fields, boys and girls alike,
to lend a hand in simple tasks like gathering
and winnowing the corn, tending poultry
and cattle.
Overview of the Ancient Education:
•The method of learning was memorization, and the motivation was the
fear of harsh physical discipline.
•Starting in about 3500 BC, various writing systems developed in
ancient civilizations around the world.
ANCIENT EGYPTIAN SCRIPTS:
1.HIEROGLYPS SCRIPTS
-was invented by the god Thoth and
called their hieroglyphic script
"mdwt ntr" (god's words). The word
hieroglyph comes from the Greek
*hieros (sacred)
*glypho (inscriptions)
2.HIERATIC SCRIPT
- invented and developed more or less at the
same time as the hieroglyphic script and was
used in parallel with it for everyday purposes
such as keeping records and accounts and
writing letters. It was used until the 26th
Dynasty.
3. DEMOTIC SCRIPT
•The Demotic or popular script, a name given to it by
Herodotus, developed from a northern variant of the
Hieratic script in around 660 BC.
•During the 26th Dynasty it became the preferred script at
court, however during the 4th century it was gradually
replaced by the Greek-derived Coptic alphabet.
4. COPTIC SCRIPT
-The name 'Coptic' derives from the Greek word for Egyptian:
Aigyptioi which became Qibt in Arabic and then was Latinized to
become Copt.
FORMS
OF
WRITING
Cuneiform
•was a three-dimensional writing system.
•named after the Latin word cuneus, which means
"wedge".
•It was written by using a special bone, wood, or metal
instrument called a "calamus" to dig wedges and linear
scrapes out of the surface that was being written on.
Papyrus -is a thin paper-like material made from the pith
of the papyrus plant
Cyperus papyrus
The Egyptians had a decimal system using seven different
symbols:
•1 is shown by a single stroke.
•10 is shown by a drawing of a hobble for cattle.
•100 is represented by a coil of rope.
•1,000 a drawing of a lotus plant.
•10,000 is represented by a finger.
•100,000 a tadpole or frog
•1,000,000 figure of a god with arms raised above his head.
Who is
MUHAMMAD ALI?
KANI?
Muhammad Ali
- father of modern Egypt and its education
system.
• Introduced a secular, modern, western
educational philosophy complete with sciences.
Al-Azhar System
•Consists of six years of
primary stage,
•a three-year preparatory stage
• and finally three years of
secondary stage
•6-3-3
•separate schools for girls and boys
•Supervised by the Supreme Council of the Al-Azhar
Institution.
Al-Azhar University mosque
•Shaping the country's religious, educational, and
cultural life.
•Resting on memorization and recitation, the
traditional methods for learning the Quran, this
educational system does not stress experimentation,
problem-solving analysis, or learning by-doing.
•Rational, spiritual, and social dimensions.
Schools in Egypt are categorized into two:
Governmental schools
•Arabic schools: This type of schools is almost free. generally refer to
primary or secondary schools mandated for or offered to all children
without charge, funded in whole or in part by taxation . The term may also
refer to public institutions of post-secondary education.
•Experimental language schools:
-Science and mathematics are taught in English and second foreign
language is thought starting from Preparatory school (instead of secondary
school compared to Arabic schools). Also they teach advanced English
subject.
This type of schools required higher fees and usually students in this type
of schools are one year older than their colleagues in Arabic schools.
Private schools
1- Ordinary schools: same as Arabic governmental school but
managed by private management. This type of schools required
fees and usually provide better educations standards and less
number of students in one class compared to Arabic governmental
schools. Also private school administration can choose to teach
advanced English subject
2- Language schools: This schools teach science and mathematics
in English
School Educational System
School education in Egypt is divided into 3 main stages:
