- invented and developed more or less at the
same time as the hieroglyphic script and was
used in parallel with it for everyday purposes
such as keeping records and accounts and
writing letters. It was used until the 26th
Dynasty.

•The Demotic or popular script, a name given to it by
Herodotus, developed from a northern variant of the
Hieratic script in around 660 BC.
•During the 26th Dynasty it became the preferred script at
court, however during the 4th century it was gradually
replaced by the Greek-derived Coptic alphabet.

-The name 'Coptic' derives from the Greek word for Egyptian:
Aigyptioi which became Qibt in Arabic and then was Latinized to
become Copt.

•was a three-dimensional writing system.
•named after the Latin word cuneus, which means
"wedge".
•It was written by using a special bone, wood, or metal
instrument called a "calamus" to dig wedges and linear
scrapes out of the surface that was being written on.

•Shaping the country's religious, educational, and

•Resting on memorization and recitation, the

educational system does not stress experimentation,
problem-solving analysis, or learning by-doing.

29. Schools in Egypt are categorized into two:
Governmental schools
•Arabic schools: This type of schools is almost free. generally refer to
primary or secondary schools mandated for or offered to all children
without charge, funded in whole or in part by taxation . The term may also
refer to public institutions of post-secondary education.
•Experimental language schools:
-Science and mathematics are taught in English and second foreign
language is thought starting from Preparatory school (instead of secondary
school compared to Arabic schools). Also they teach advanced English
subject.
This type of schools required higher fees and usually students in this type
of schools are one year older than their colleagues in Arabic schools.
30. Private schools
1- Ordinary schools: same as Arabic governmental school but
managed by private management. This type of schools required
fees and usually provide better educations standards and less
number of students in one class compared to Arabic governmental
schools. Also private school administration can choose to teach
advanced English subject
2- Language schools: This schools teach science and mathematics
in English
31. School Educational System
School education in Egypt is divided into 3 main stages:
1.Kindergarten (2 years) Kindergarten is not required
and Egyptian student can start his or her education
journey from next stage (Basic education)
2.Basic Education (9 compulsory years)
3.Secondary Education (3 or 5 years)
34. Higher Education System.
•Egypt has a very extensive higher education
system. About 30% of all Egyptians in the relevant
age group go to university. However, only half of
them graduate.

•Academic year in Egypt starts at second or third week of
September.
•The first term lasts for 15 weeks ends at Mid-January.
•Then comes the mid-year vacation for about a month.
•Second term starts usually at mid February and lasts also 15
weeks and ends at mid June .
•It's now the summer vacation for 3 months.
