The education system in Moldova has both private and state options, with most instruction done in Romanian. General secondary school lasts 2 years while lyceum lasts 3 years, both culminating in exams for certificates. Higher education includes technical/vocational colleges lasting 2-3 years, as well as university programs including bachelor's, master's and doctoral degrees requiring original research and thesis work. The academic year runs from September 1st to August 31st. Grading is on a 10-point scale with 5 or higher needed to pass.
