3. WHAT IS EDUCATION?
Education is the process of facilitating learning
or the acquisition of knowledge, skills, values,
beliefs and habits.

4. WHY EDUCATION?
The education is the key which allows people to
open up the world of opportunities, seek better
jobs, and ultimately succeed in life.The process
of education aims at the all-round development
of the individuals, dispelling ignorance and
enhancing moral values in the society, thus
working towards collective well being.

5. HISTORY OF EDUCATION
• Gurukul System-Anyone who wished to study
went to a teacher's (Guru) house and
requested to be taught. If accepted as a
student by the guru, he would then stay at the
guru's place and help in all activities at
home.The guru taught everything the child
wanted to learn, from Sanskrit to the holy
scriptures and from Mathematics to
Metaphysics.

6. • Modern school system-It was brought to India,
including the English language, originally by
Lord Thomas Babington Macaulay in the
1830s. The curriculum was confined to
“modern” subjects such as science and
mathematics, and subjects like metaphysics
and philosophy were considered
unnecessary.

14. WHO IS A LITERATE?
• According to census, a person aged seven
years or more, who can read and write with
understanding in any language is called a
literate person. A person who can merely
read but cannot write is not classified as
literate. Any formal education or minimum
educational standard is not necessary to be
considered literate.

20. GOVERNMENT INITIATIVES
• Union Budget 2017-18 the budget has pegged an outlay
of Rs 79,685.95 crore(US$11.952 Billion) for education
sector up from Rs72,394 crore(US$10.859 Billion) in
2016-17 -a rise of 9.9%rise.
• Free education programs to poor people living in
villages and towns.
• Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao is the latest initiative taken by
Government of India to save and educate the girl child in
India.
