Topic: Educational changes because of culture

• Culture and education are two inseparable parameters and they are interdependent.
Any educational pattern gets its guidence from the cultural patterns of a society. For
instance in a society with a spiritual pattern of culture , the educational focus would
be on the achievement of moral and eternal values of life.
Meaning:
Latin word “cultura” means ‘to cultivate’ or ‘cultivating the mind’
Definition:
E.B Tylor “Culture is that complex whole, which includes knowledge, belief, art,
morals, law, language, custom and any other capabilities acquired by man as a member
of the society” .
EDUCATION:
The word Education is derived from the latin words
‘Educare’ - means to bring up or to nourish
Educere - means to draw out or to manifest
Educo- means to lead out
DEFINITION:
Swami Vivekananda “ Education is the manifestation of devine perfection already in the
man.
Educational Change
Educational change is a broad term that refers to both shifting
perspsectives within education and efforts of reforms within
education.
The efforts taken to adjust to those new ideas and meet those
needs can be categorized as educational change
 Culture is accumulation of values thoughts and belief - education sets these to learn
and mould.
 Culture is expression of ours matures modes of thinking and living. - education
nourish the modes of thinking and living.
 Culture is the goodness and formation and character - education acts as laboratory of
goodness and character.
 Culture is humanity in the form of speech and action- education modifies is works
and action.
Culture is form of civilization of human race - education
develops the civilization.
Culture has factor of personality. - education responsible for the
development of personality.
Impact of culture on education
 Curriculum: Is prepared according to the culture of society. The system of
education tries to realise the cultural needs to society through curriculum which
conditons all educational activities and programmes.
 Methods of teaching: Culture methods of teaching are intimately connected. The
previously teaching was teacher centered where teacher used to give knowledge to
the students. Now it has become student centered.
 Disciplines: The present cultural patterns of thinking and living are directly linked to
our concepts, of discipline where the democratic values are accepted all over the
world.
 Textbooks: Curriculum is contained in the textbooks. Text books are written
according to the formulated or determined curriculum. Only those textbooks are
welcomed which poster and promote cultural values.
 Teacher: Each individual teacher is imbided with the cultural values and ideals of the
society of which he or she happens to be an integral member.
 School: A school is a miniature of a society. The total activities and programmes of a
school are organised according to the cultural ideas and values of the society which
establishes and organise the school.
Conclusion
Education is the process by which society, through school,
colleges, universities and other institutions, deliberately transmit
it culture heritage, its accumulated knowledge, values and skills
from one generation to another.
Education conceived as a systemmatic effort to maintain a
culture.
