Creating Learning Networks in School CommunitiesLucy Gray
Lucy Gray gave a presentation on creating learning networks in school communities. She discussed defining personal learning networks and the idea of the "highly connected teacher" from the National Educational Technology Plan. Gray outlined social media tools that can be used to start personal learning networks for educators and students, including Flickr, Diigo and Edmodo. She stressed that teachers should take charge of their own professional development by developing personal learning networks to investigate best practices. Schools should provide safe, networked learning opportunities for students and teachers and focus more on teaching, learning and strategic planning around technology use.

This document summarizes a presentation given by Dan Brickley on requirements for linked social TV. The three key requirements discussed are: 1) Allowing metadata to flow widely between content and platforms, 2) Identifying content with URLs, and 3) Opening APIs to control TVs and link devices. Examples of prototypes that were discussed include using QR codes and second screen apps on tablets to link TV content. The presentation argues that linking content with URLs is foundational for social TV and that standard protocols are needed for second screen functionality.

Have you ever asked the following question:
« How could I connect my Moodle platform with another LMS? »
During my talk, I will present a solution, conceived of at the University of Geneva, to connect the Moodle platform with other LMS (e.g., Chamilo, OLAT) and with a Swiss national learning repository, known as SwitchCollection.
These connections allows teachers to share their resources (documents, ppt presentation) and activities (wiki, glossary, quiz, etc.) with other teachers working in various teaching environments. Sharing such learning resources is reminiscent of the Open Educational Resources (OER), whereupon depending on the license agreement teachers can modify the content and reuse it in their courses.
Technically, our solution is based on two main elements:
* A repository using Fedora Commons (FedoraLOR.unige.ch) to collect and render sharable and harvestable the various resources and activities.
* Import/export LMS modules for converting resources and activities into a standard format (IMS CP and IMS QTI) and storing them in the repository.
A live demo will illustrate the whole concept. We will conclude by sharing with the audience some thoughts about what we think could be potential barriers behind OER (copyright issues, philosophy of sharing, etc.) and propose ways to handle such difficulties.
The State of Teaching and Learning in the 21st CenturyLucy Gray
The document discusses the state of teaching and learning in the 21st century. It notes that while schools are making efforts to cultivate 21st century skills and implement robust technology programs, the success of any program depends on visionary leadership, strategic planning, and commitment to continuous improvement. This document discusses viral marketing techniques and draws comparisons between viral marketing and biological viruses. It begins by defining viral marketing and noting its goal of increasing brand awareness through self-replicating social processes. It then compares the spread of viral marketing messages to the spread of computer viruses and biological viruses. Creativity is emphasized as the most important factor for a successful viral campaign, as the content must be compelling enough to spread organically. Naive or amateur content lacks this encoded message and is more akin to simple "viroids". The document cautions against relying too heavily on simplistic formulas for
