We were told that we had to make a thriller trailer on adobe
premier elements 9. this will help me fully understand the
conventions of a thriller trailer.
I done some initial research which gave me guide line to work
with, my teacher also helped me with the techniques of
learning this new soft wear. I also received help from youtube.
I had to insert my videos by using the camera and the
hard drive. I then uploaded it on adobe premier 9 and
started to edit it as well.
I also had to upload the music in this way as well, but I
had to download it first onto my computer after
uploading it I saved it on my hard-drive allowing me to
work on any computer with the adobe premier 9.
When I uploaded it on adobe premier 9 however well
doing so I a had same problem as you can see in the
screen shot it shows a red line meaning that I would
have to reader it by pressing entered.
I started editing on premier
elements 9, the first thing that I
done was make my logo which
is called P-clip productions
and then I made it about three
to four seconds long.
I done this by using the clip art
on premier elements 9, it gave
me a lot of options and I could
even use pictures from the
internet.
But I stuck with using the clip art because it was quicker and easier to use. I also
added the word art from premier elements 9 as well and it also gave me a variety of
choices. I also used a black background to make everything seem like it was
sticking out more.
After the four seconds that its played for, the paper clips and the writing will slowly
drift away. I used this effect to show people that the trailer is about to start.
I also used the same technique for
the inter titles. I used relatively normal
writing with a black screen and I used
the same effect drifting away.
I used many of these inter titles to give the audience a good idea of
what is and will be going on in the trailer. This is because if I didn’t
have some of these inter titles it would not make scenes as some
of the scenes that are next to each other in the trailer will be far
apart in the film E.G. I might take a shot from the beginning and the
next shot would be from the middle of the story.
When editing and making my thriller trailer I was following Todorv’s theory.
I started out with an equilibrium which was a close up of my legs walking into
jordans block I then had another mid shot of me walking up the stairs . I used a
fade transition to skip from me walking into the block to up the stairs.
I then had a close up shot of endrins face were he was smoking and looking
sad/scared of what is going to happen. I added some slight effects to it which
were, opacity and sharpening
The next clip I had was the father talking to the mother then threatening here, I
added no effects because I thought it looked good the way it was and the
camera angle helped so I had no need for effects.
The next shot I had was a mid shot of the
mother taking the letter out of the letter box, I
added slight effects to it because it was to dark,
I turned up the opacity in order to bring in some
light.
This is were the disruption happens.
Then comes the recognition of the disruption with the
fight. This shot consists of one continues shot for about
10 seconds. I added no effects to this because it was full
of movement and looked good the way it was.
I also had scenes were me and endrin would be running away from the father, the
camera was tracking us without a tripod to give it more effect. It also made out that
the step dad was chasing us. I did not add any effects because agen their was
already a lot of movement and it looked fine the way it was.
These shots were scaterd across the trailer to get the audience more involved in the
trailer; to make them ask questions.
Now it is coming up to the new equilibrium with the music slowing down I decided to
trech the scene of me and endrin running but we also involved another scene of me
looking helpless next to a fish tank. I used the cuts as a black screen in-between
short snippets of us running and me at the fish tank. I used no effects because they
were quick and short.
The last scene is the father saying ‘hello boys’ I did not use any effects on this
becsause it already looked dark which gave it a chilling feeling.
