Informing Policymakers:
 The what: The Council may support and conduct activities to
provide information to policymakers by supporting and conducting
studies and analyses, gathering information, and developing and
disseminating model policies and procedures, information,
approaches, strategies, findings, conclusions, and
recommendations in order to increase the ability of such
policymakers to offer opportunities and enhance or adapt generic
services to meet the needs of, or provide specialized services to
individuals with I/DD and their families.

2012 to bridge the Federal government’s shared efforts and
priorities of the aging and disability communities on
community living.

7. The mission of CDC’s National Center on Birth Defects and
Developmental Disabilities (NCBDDD) is to promote the
health of babies, children and adults and to enhance the
potential for full, productive living. It became part of CDC in
2001.
To achieve its mission, the Center works to:
 Identify the causes of birth defects and developmental
disabilities;
 Help children to develop and reach their full potential;
and
 Promote health and well-being among people of all ages
with disabilities, including blood disorders.

8. Dr. Coleen Boyle, who leads NCBDDD, spoke at the NACDD
Annual Conference in July and met with NACDD in August
and the Georgia DD Council in September.

10. The Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) is
the primary federal agency for improving healthcare by
strengthening the workforce, building healthy communities
and achieving health equity.
HRSA’s Maternal & Child Health Bureau (MCHB) includes
programs for prenatal/postnatal care, and provides special
programs for children with special health care needs.
