Ecuadorian coffee exports to Russia

2. Russia imposed a ban on food imports from the European Union, the United States
and other Western countries that have imposed sanctions on Moscow for its conflict
with Ukraine.
German food exports to Russia were worth €1.6 billion in 2013, a decline of 14
percent on the year before.
The trade declined sharply on 2012 - dairy exports fell by 45% and meat products
dropped by 30 %.
Other important foodstuffs exported to Russia were baked goods, chocolate, coffee
and wine, but they are not set to be affected by the sanctions.
Fruit and vegetable exports to Russia were worth €29 million in 2013, while fish was
worth €5 million.
According to Eurostat, combined EU food exports to Russia were worth €11.8 billion
in 2013, less than one percent of all EU exports in total.

6. The increased consumption of coffee is located concerning the cities of
Russia: Moscow and St Petersburg, where the development of coffee
chains still booming with the growing demand of coffee consumption.
Preferred by the people in Russia, coffee is instant coffee. There is a great deal
assortment of varieties and brands (Jockey, Grand, Tata Coffee, Milagro, Kaffa,
Nescafé, Garden, Etc.)
7. Imports from Russia were analyzed in Ecuador of headings 090111,
090121 and 21011 for the period 2011, 2012 and 2013 (January to
May).
8. Coffee has been produced in Ecuador since 1860. The Jipijapa area, in Manabí, has
been one of the most important places where this product is grown.
Currently over 100 thousand families are dedicated to coffee production.
Ecuador has great capacity as a coffee producer, becoming one of the few countries in
the world that exports all varieties of coffee: washed arabica, natural arabica and
robusta.
Due to its geographical location, Ecuador produces one of the best coffees in South
America and one of the most demanded in Europe.
The different ecosystems of Ecuador has allowed the coffee plantations to take place
all around the country, even in the Galapagos Islands.
Regarding seasonality, arabica coffee production is from march to October, while
robusta production is from February until November.
9. Among the main varieties produced in Ecuador are:
Washed Arabica: El Oro, Manabí, Loja, Guayas and Zamora Chinchipe.
Natural Arabica: Loja, Manabí, El Oro, Los Ríos and Guayas.
Robusta: Pichincha, Orellana, Sucumbíos, Guayas, Los Ríos and Napo.
Industrialized (soluble): Guayas and Manabí
