4. ECUADORIAN COFFEE
Although Ecuador is a small coffee producing country, it
is one of the few countries in the world that grows and
exports both Arabica and Robusta coffee that are
produced and consumed in the world. Coffee has been
produced in Ecuador since 1860. The Jipijapa area, in
Manabi, has been one of the most important places
where this product is grown.

and the most demanded in
Europe. The different
ecosystems in Ecuador enable
crops to grow across the
country, even in the Galapagos
Islands. The Arabica coffee

Among the major competitors in the Ecuadorian coffee
industry we have: Brazil, Vietnam, Germany, Colombia, with
shares of 22% by 2012, 8% and 7% respectively.

The major global buyers in the coffee sector, and also as
Ecuadorian destinations are the United States, Germany
and France.

Tariff barriers
On average, the tariff charged by the main destinations
of Ecuadorian coffee exports is 0%, with the exception
of Cuba, Indonesia, Japan, Mexico, Russia, Switzerland,
Syria, Taiwan, which have a different rate for some of
the varieties coffee provided to them.
13. ACCESS TO THE MARKET
In the case of extracts, essences and concentrates of
coffee the tariff that each of our buyers charge to our
main competitors is differentiated by region, we
conclude that Colombia, Ecuador and Mexico are those
with the highest tariff importers in the market. Having
Mexico as the highest market tariff rate that applies to
imports of this product.
