It has diverse geography and climate ranging from coastlines to Andean mountains to rainforests. Ecuador has a very high level of biodiversity and is home to many endemic plant and animal species. The economy relies on oil exports as well as agriculture including bananas, coffee and shrimp. Ecuador has a long history with Inca and Spanish influences and gained independence in 1830.
