Printing is an everyday, taken for granted
business operation.
Whilst we do not advocate a world without
printing (that would just not be possible), it
is important to recognize the need to control
consumption. The trick is not to stop printing
but to print responsibly.
Market research firm, InfoTrends report that
businesses continue to print, copy and fax
more than a trillion pages of office paper
each year1
. The paperless office is far from
becoming a reality as most businesses
continue to rely on paper documents for
contractual and legal reasons, physically
archiving these important documents at the
same time.

So what can be done to ensure we optimize
our printing practices to reduce the wastage
of paper in the office?
In 2011, Fuji Xerox introduced the Electronic
Partnership Broadband (EP-BB) service, a
proactive service that monitors faults and
consumables to help minimize the downtime
of machines.
It also provides usage and eco reports for
centralized control and visibility of multi-
function devices (MFDs) carbon output,
power consumption and paper usage.

aggregates the data collected from the
EP-BB green report. Using the Eco-print
dashboard not only allows users to view
monthly paper and electricity consumption
within their company, but to also directly
compare consumption against industry
average data based on peer companies
of similar size.
On top of that, trending capabilities in
the Eco-Print Dashboard allows customers
to compare their current and past print
behaviors against industry averages over
time. This provides long term visibility of
their position among their peers and serves
as a reference point to enhance eco-print
efforts and goal setting in a targeted
manner.
Eco-print Dashboard
The dashboard provides the first
trend analysis in the country that
polls actual data of the paper and
electricity consumed by Fuji Xerox
printing devices and measures your
print efficiency in the office vs the
industry average. The objective
is to provide transparency and let
Fuji Xerox customers have a way to
benchmark their own performance
over a 12-month period and to
manage it. This allows for active
management with new company-
centric print management initiatives.
Benchmarking against an industry
average would also be the next
logical step in eco-management.
Data supporting the underlying print
efficiency is also provided. Print efficiency
is calculated by measuring pages printed
over sheets of paper used. The higher the
ratio means that each single sheet of paper
is being efficiently used by printing on both
sides using duplex or multi-up printing.
