They are working with Holly to advise on improvements to the school pond and aim to earn a green flag award like other eco schools. The team collects around 11 to 15 bags of recycling such as paper, plastic, and cardboard every two weeks, totaling around 390 bags annually. They have recycling collections in classrooms and special bins around school. The school won a first prize in the Manchester in Bloom school category and are planting trees, painting murals, and working to reduce litter on the grounds. Giles county clean up day
The Giles County Clean Up Day is held annually in March where students and teachers clean up trash along roadsides, the New River, and surrounding areas. They collect bags of garbage which the Highway Commission then picks up. Key areas cleaned include Pearisburg, Ripplemead, Pembroke, and the New River Valley. Though there are minor health risks, the Clean Up Day has overwhelmingly positive effects on the environment and community pride. Afterwards, participants are rewarded with pizza and drinks at a celebration with raffle prizes.

Dear WildED, Both classes have been fully engaged in a sustainability unit which culminated in the action plan to reduce our school's garbage. They have taken (WildED's) carbon footprint test and committed to at least one more action to reduce their mark on the world. They have done an amazing job and have already been recognized by the Vancouver School Board for their amazing efforts.
