After the story of Khai Thinh Co., Ltd., Ms. Tran Thi Hanh explain why it’s important to have knowledge and, be aware of all disaster risk and consequences of climate change for a company. The fact that this lack of understanding can be solved by taking training course and that business and entrepreneurs can “spend a small amount but […] protect a huge amount of assets” is highlight. Additionally, it gives you the feedback of previous training and a reminder of the upcoming activities.

Now there are several methods for forecast the disaster, But there are no any effective methods for handling the resources needed for both managing the disaster and also for rehabilitation purpose. Thus this paper proposes an application used for managing the disaster and handling the rehabilitation process. FINAL REVIEW WORKSHOP Building relationships with business associations and media agencies to engage in FLEGT to provide information on FLEGT and the related issues EXPERIENCES AND LESSONS LEARNT
The text assesses the existence and availability of the information listed in VPA about legal frameworks and procedures or forest activities:
-It finds that there are difficulties in the interpretation of complex information and dissemination depends on the authority’s discretion.
-EU will support the implementation of VPA by and activating civil society to demand and use data. In Ghana, the EU will work to establish a formal agreement on which documents should be routinely published.
-Ghana: no binding obligation to publish data routinely. Legal documents are available, but mostly after written request.
-Cameroon: commits the parties to publish information on specific items. There is missing implementing regulation and key information on logging permits. Almost no data on production, plans, exports, social agreements, etc
-Liberia: Legal documents available, but missing information on private use permits, production, and law enforcement.
Flegt communications plan august 28 finalThành Nguyễn
The Communications Strategy is a guiding framework that supports a project implemented by the Center
for Education and Development (CED) and Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI). The
project aims to improve the communications capacity of media and business associations to inform key
actors about the FLEGT/VPA process and prepare for implementation as well as enhance motivation and
secure commitment.
The document proposes a package of measures that address the problem of illegal logging and its trade.
There are several other EU supported initiatives in developing countries . This Action Plan is mainly focused on the question of legality, but with the wider objective of promoting sustainable forest management. Key points of action are the improvement of the available legality verification systems, promoting transparency, protecting local smallholders and the encouragement of local participation against illegal logging and fighting corruption..
The training workshop “Evaluating the Impact of latest commitments of FLEGT-VPA on timber businesses” was held by the Center for Education and Development (CED) and Vietnam Chamber of Commercial and Industry in Da Nang (VCCI Da Nang) on 30 August 2017 in Da Nang as one of the project activities. The objective of the training workshop was to update the latest important contents of FLEGT-VPA and discuss the impacts and solutions for 3 items: imported timber control, organization classification, verifying the origin of the timber and FLEGT licensing.

làm gia tăng mức độ, hậu quả do thiên tai gây ra.

Project “Strengthening the Public-Private Partnership in Disaster Risk Management and Community Resilience in Vietnam“, funded by USAID, is implemented by The Asia Foundation (TAF) in collaboration with Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry (VCCI) and Center for Education and Development (CED) from March 2011 to March 2013 (2 years) in 5 provinces/cities: Nghe An, Hue, Da Nang, Khanh Hoa and Binh Dinh. The Project consists of two Components with the overall objectives being (i) the capacity to deal sustainably and effectively with disasters built through strengthening the public-private partnerships for disaster risk management (DRM); (ii) capacity of small and medium enterprises (SMEs) enhanced to prepare for and respond to disasters; and (iii) corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives promoted for mitigation of disaster risk.
During the reporting period, The Foundation supported VCCI to deliver 18 business Disaster Risk Management (DRM) courses to more than 520 people from 370 businesses in seven provinces in the Central region: Nghe An, Hue, Da Nang, Quang Nam, Quang Tri, Binh Dinh and Khanh Hoa. The Foundation also worked closely with VCCI and CED to support ten companies to finalize their DRM plans. To measure the impact of the DRM training program in the last quarter of 2012, the Foundation sponsored an independent evaluation of training carried out under the program since 2011. The evaluation provided evidence of businesses interest in the training, implementation of training content in business practice and case study examples of where those DRM measures had been tested by disaster and found to reduce disaster risk. The program has established an effective course, a cadre of trainers, and with its increasing profile has made an important contribution to improved awareness and action on DRM among local businesses in the central region.

L
et’s save ourselves before it’s too late!
Khai Thinh Co., Ltd. is a company specializing in
carrying passengers using marine transport from
Rach Gia, Phan Thiet to Phu Quoc and Phu Quy island.
The company had owned a Savanna ship, which was
the most modern in Vietnam, with tonnage that could
transport up to 270 passengers. The ship was designed
to withstand strong wind of level 7, with young staff
who were highly skilled in fire protection. But unfortu-
nately, an extremely strong tornado caused a shipwreck
about 1.5 knots from the Phan Thiet coast at 4:30 AM,
1st March 2014 (See more information about the sinking
Savanna at https://goo.gl/QP28NV).
After this disaster risk, the company registered for the
course on disaster risk management which was held by
the Center for Development Support of Small and Medi-
um Enterprise 2 (SMEDEC 2). “Even though the duration
of the training was only 2 days, I’ve learned a lot of im-
portant information to prevent disasters in the future.
Through the training, I realized that natural disasters are
unpredictable and human life should be the top prior-
ity for protection. Creating scenario cases and specific
protection plans prioritizing the vulnerable groups such
as the elderly, children, and pregnant women should be
done. Despite the loss of property, which was up to $ 3
million, fortunately there were no fatalities or injuries.
“There’s a need to plan for each type of disaster be-
fore it occurs, you also need to have the support of the
government, and it must be rehearsed.
Businesses, let’s buy disaster insurance
for people and property, save yourself
before it’s too late.”
Ms. Tran Thi Hanh - Director of Khai
Thinh Transport Limited

Did you know?Do not risk death because of a lack of understading!
“Before attending VCCI’s training course (2013), the
company’s prevention options are spontaneous, awk-
ward, and unorganized. After the training, we learned
how to develop a professional management plan for
each kind of disaster and inform and train each employ-
ee. Since then, Viettronimex has not suffered any dam-
age due to natural disasters, even though it spends only
about 20 million VND each year to protect the assets of
300 billion VND.”
After the survey and consulting, all three supermarkets
of Viettrolimex, Da Nang, have completed their own
disaster risk management plans and specific options.
Enterprises purchased disaster insurance and set up a
disaster prevention fund. In addition to informative and
training excercises, 850 m2 of total area of 6500 m2 are
maintained annually. Viettronimex’s storm prevention
capacity is now able to withstand storms up to level 12.
“Focus on the key points, the cost of
prevention is only part of the protection
of goods and property”.
Mr. Huynh Cho – Head of Human Re-
source, Viettronimex Supermarket Sys-
tem, Da Nang.
“Disaster risk does not leave anyone out. Entrepreneurs
and businesses need to be aware of it and seriously con-
sider developing detailed plans for disaster risk manage-
ment and organize it. Only spending a small amount will
be enough to protect a significant amount of business
assets. Furthermore, it is more important to protect
your employees and customers in a disaster.” According
to Viettronimex Supermarket, Da Nang
Measures to prevent water overflow at manholes:
- The drainage system in the area exits the external sys-
tem of the area through the manholes collecting water.
These manholes should be constructed so that in case
of high tides, it’s will not flow back into the inner drain-
age system of the area.
- To ensure that water does not flow back into the re-
gion's trench system, water blocking measure, as pic-
tured below, is a simple solution in construction and
operation, with a low cost and efficient to use. Busi-
nesses can also refer to more manholes which are de-
signed against overflow and currently on the market.

75% of the areas flooded in Ho Chi Minh City were not
due to high tide, but due to the drainage capacity of
most rainwater drainage systems which only experi-
enced 80mm rainfall (about 3 hours of continuous rain).
Local flood and tide prevention options are also one of
the 10 most viewed articles in the last third quarter on
http://ungphothientai.com
To effectively prevent flooding, note the following four
factors:
- High altitude flooding in the factory area
- Fence (embankment) around the area
- The manholes collecting water for drainage of the area
- Door system of factory area

Lecturer’scorner
“Prevention is not properly recognized. A story shared by my students that I re-
member throughout my 6 years of teaching disaster risk is the story of a train-
ee working in the electricity industry in Hoi An. Due to the good preparation
for prevention before the storm, Hoi An should not be affected by electricity
power failure when the storm occurs while electricity in some local districts
is praised when overcoming problems after 3 days.” - Mr. Nguyen Dien - Vice
Director of VCCI Da Nang
“Disasters are unusual and unpredictable. Therefore, not preparing well for di-
saster risk prevention, is preparing for the loss of life and property of the busi-
ness.” Mr. Nguyen Thanh Ngoc, Lecturer in Risk Disaster Management - Direc-
tor of the Business Training Center - NEDCEN

Dien Nam was organized - Dien Ngoc Indus-
trial Park, Quang Nam.
10/2016: Enterprises in Nam Cam In-
dustrial Zone were supported to de-
velop and finalize Disaster Prepared-
ness and Prevention plans (4 versions)
and strategy (1 version) for Nam Cam
Industrial Zone Management Board.
11/2016:EffortsbetweenQuangNamIndus-
trial Zones and Dien Nam-Dien Ngoc Industrial
Park Management Boards (Quang Nam) were coor-
dinated to monitor, collect information and support 8 enterpris-
es to finalize their Disaster Preparedness and Prevention plans.
"From the perspective of IZ management, through training, I highly appreciate the
method taught by the project lecturers, with high interactivity, focus on a practice,
learner-centered approach. The lecturers did not use jargon, but used practical ex-
ercises and examples from real business and group discussions, direct interactions,
which is a good method of training and brings good results. Although learners
have different backgrounds and come from different companies and departments,
it was still possible to discuss and contribute to the specific plans. Although the
training took place during only 1 day, I think that if the enterpris-
es had better preparation, the training time can be shortened
while efficiency is still ensured. Managers will gradually learn
and apply this method to our own training courses in our Indus-
trial Parks.” Mr. Huynh Thanh Tong, Head of Management Board
of Quang Nam Industrial Parks.
