MHP, or the Multimedia Home Platform, is an open standard for interactive TV middleware developed by the DVB Project to work across all DVB transmission technologies. It allows for the development of interactive applications by multiple service providers. MHP has a core based on Java technology and provides a platform for delivering and running interactive applications on digital TV receivers. Initial deployments used broadcast networks, but many recent deployments have been in hybrid broadcast/broadband networks to take advantage of complementary content and applications delivered over the internet. As of 2010, over 14.5 million MHP compatible receivers had been deployed worldwide.
