This document outlines objectives and strategies for an energy action group to help member organizations reduce energy costs and consumption. The key objectives are to provide a free service to members, help lower running costs through group buying, share best practices, and provide advisory services and access to efficient technology. The group will work to synchronize contract end dates, conduct a reverse auction for competitive quotes, and recommend locking in minimum two-year contracts. Technologies promoted for energy efficiency include boiler management, lighting upgrades, and renewable energy sources. Charities are also reminded that many may be overpaying VAT and eligible for rebates of up to three years worth of overpayments totaling around £100 million across the UK.
Energy management to-date is far too complex. There are a lot of moving pieces, but the solutions available to help you manage them all just underscore the complexity at hand. Given this difficulty, it’s no wonder that energy remains a top-five cost item for organisations. Today’s technology, however, is taking the complex and difficult and making it simple and easy. And simple and easy energy management is translating to a stronger bottom line for businesses.

To make long-term savings your business should reduce its energy consumption. Get energy efficient to reduce your carbon footprint and keep your customers engaged with your business.
How do Third Party Charges Affect your Energy BillEMEX
Third-party charges are also known as non-energy or pass-through charges. They include the charges levied by network companies on energy suppliers for their customers’ use of the transmission and distribution networks. They also include the costs levied on suppliers by the Government as a means of funding its renewables, capacity, and energy efficiency policies.
Cornwall Energy’s Robert Buckley with guests will explain what makes up business energy bills, how the component parts of the bills are changing and what businesses can do to mitigate increases.
Brief presentation on financing green initiatives. Shows an example of the benefits derived from solar project in Ontario under the FIT and microFIT programs.
Monitoring of Business Energy Performance for Fit-out Redevelopment Potential...EMEX
In 2014, Heathrow’s Terminal 2 Retail Fit-out Sustainability Project won the ‘Most energy efficient project of the year’ at the Environment and Energy Awards. This was for Discovery Mill’s approach and the work the Heathrow team collaboratively achieved with Heathrow’s retail business partners in reducing energy usage in T2 Retail. Predicted energy savings were assessed to be 17-24% compared to existing Terminal 5 operations, with additional direct savings for Heathrow through reduced central building plant consumption as well as reduced infrastructure costs.
The Renewable Heat Incentive has now been launched. This is a financial incentive that pays to go Green.
The Objective of the domestic RHI is to significantly increase the proportion of heat generated from renewable energy sources, and to help the UK meet EU targets of reducing carbon emissions.
This scheme provides savings on energy bills and provides a financial return.

From 2009 companies and other organisations, will be required to report to the Environment Agency details of their energy usage, from almost all sources, on an annual basis.
Energy Solutions: Examining the energy solutions approach provided by Utility...4 All of Us
This workshop will focus on the types of energy procurement available including fixed, flexible,
portfolio and semi-flexible contracts. The aim is to guide you through the energy monitoring and
reduction services that are available to reduce consumption and associated costs, whilst providing
information on legislative obligations within the education sector. We will also discuss recent
examples of energy solutions implemented in a range of educational establishments across the UK.
Examples will include successes from Barking & Dagenham College, Craven College, New College
Durham and Bradford University. The workshop will provide information on energy solutions which
have made real savings, reduced consumption and created long standing behavioural changes
within the education sector.

Getting to Grips with Clean Energy 15 March 2017Julie's Bicycle
Decarbonising electricity is a key measure for the UK to reach its target of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by at least 80% by 2050. You can help hitting this target by investing in renewables, either through on-site technology or driving demand through procurement. Here are our webinar slides to take a look through.
Anglian Water and Connected Energy worked together on a project to understand how to maximise the potential of renewable energy projects and offer grid services support by integrating E-STOR energy storage systems on sites.
Anglian Water's aim was to make the most of storing energy generated from their renewable sources, like the solar panels they plan to install across the region. Integrating batteries into these projects would ensure more of the renewable power is used onsite.
The installed system also took advantage of any time of day energy costs differences and assessed the potential for the system to supply energy grid services at further Anglian Water sites.

SBC on energy efficiency for SMEs Dec 2015Barbara Albert
This presentation helps small and medium sized business become a more profitable business by helping them increase their energy efficiency.
SMEs are struggling with the ever rising energy costs that are adding to the overhead. It is also hard to get a proper handle on analysing bills and managing energy in a small to medium sized organisation as there is no money for a dedicated person to manage this area. And increasingly customers expect businesses to do the right thing and to be more sustainable. At the intersection of these three forces is the fear that competitors might do a better job.
This presentation helps SMEs think about ways on how they can manage their energy consumption so they spend less on utilities. This increases the bottom line and as a side effect, the business also understands and controls their energy consumption. If the success stories are shared well, customers will think positively about the company, which will further increase profits. Businesses will feel so much more confident about doing their bit and will have a more profitable business by following the steps that are outlined in this presentation.

12. £100 million wrapped up for charities in
energy VAT clause
A third of the UK's 180,000 Registered
Charities are paying too much for their energy,
unaware that they qualify for a reduced VAT
rate of 5% and could be in line for rebates
worth £100 million.
According to the business price comparison
service - 'Make It Cheaper' - charities will have
made a collective VAT overpayment of £22.6
million on their electricity bills alone in 2010,
plus a further £8.5 million on Climate Change
Levy (CCL) payments from which they are also
exempt2.
Charities that have been overpaying VAT and
CCL can claim a rebate of up to three years -
see our energy guide for charities for more
information. The Regal Community Theatre in
Bathgate near Edinburgh, for example, recently
received £11,000 after writing to its supplier to
point out it had been paying the incorrect rates
for gas and electricity. Gillian Robertson,
financial administrator at the threate,
