This document discusses using Early Warning Systems (EWS) and forecast modeling to mitigate the impact of volcanic eruptions from Mount Etna on air traffic. It describes Etna's increasing volatile behavior in recent decades and current procedures for managing contaminated airspace that rely on observed ash cloud data. The presented solution is to develop an ash plume forecasting system using the WRF-Chem model triggered by eruption scenarios to provide predictions that integrate with operations. Automatic Lidar and Celiometer sensors have been installed around Etna to provide quantitative observation data to evaluate forecasts. The system is now ready to go operational on Delft-FEWS to generate ash plume ensemble forecasts to help manage risks to aviation from Etna's
