Drug abuse negatively impacts communities through increased family stress, crime, and health issues. It can cause marital and family problems as well as child neglect when parents are preoccupied with addiction. Users may commit crimes to fund drug habits, and drinking and driving contributes to many crashes. Treatment programs are costly and not always effective in reducing these negative effects of drug abuse on communities.

Drug abuse is a common problem that is ruining not only the individuals but offering a global issue. People experiment with drugs for many different reasons. Many first try drugs out of curiosity, to have a good time, because friends are doing it, or in an effort to improve athletic performance or ease another problem, such as stress, anxiety, or depression. Use doesn't automatically lead to abuse, and there is no specific level at which drug use moves from casual to problematic. It varies by individual. Addiction is less about the amount of substance consumed or the frequency, and more to do with the consequences of drug use. No matter how often or how little you’re consuming, if your drug use is causing problems in your life, at work, school, home, or in your relationship, you likely have a drug abuse or addiction problem. And if you are having this problem you are actually in trouble.

Community Level Barriers
Recap
The group which was chosen is those people are addicted to alcohol and also abuse drugs. Substance abuse has become so prevalent in some communities. The issues have become critical that it requires programs which can ensure that people affected can be assisted. Most people are involved in substance abuse for various different reasons. The government and the society are responsible for ensuring that substance abuse and alcohol use have been mitigated. When a society has been affected by substance abuse, its economic, social and political well-being is highly affected. It is therefore necessary to ensure that the problem has been reduced or it has been avoided to ensure that the society moves in the right direction of growth and development. The individuals who are affected by these issues are also expected to play their part in helping in the fight against substance abuse (Apthorp, 2003).
The youth have been identified as the group which is highly affected by alcohol and drug abuse. The young people are also at high risk of engaging in the act of abusing drugs. It is possible to control this issue through the right programs and measures. Poverty has also been identified as central to alcohol and substance abuse. In most poor communities, the level and rate of substance abuse are very high. The best program which has been identified as preventive measures. This means that people should be prevented from substance abuse. The ones who have already been involved should be taken through treatment and rehabilitation to help them recover from the effects of drug abuse.
Three Critical Barriers
There are various barriers which impact the well-being and the health of people who are alcohol addicts and abuse drugs. These barriers lead to the deterioration of the well-being of these people. To ensure that substance abuse has been effectively mitigated, necessary measures to overcome these barriers should be taken. One of the barriers is low-income levels of this group. This has been the main barrier affecting the well-being of these people. Most of the substance abusers are have low-income levels. This leads to poverty and stress (Monti, 2012). When people have low living standards and have financial problems, they turn to drugs for solace. This is, therefore, one of the main barriers to the well-being of people with alcohol drinking problems. The low-income factor is also a barrier since most of the rehabilitation centers are very expensive which makes the affected people unable to have access.
The second barrier is community and government based. It is very hard to have access to a rehabilitation sector and also it is very expensive. The government has been unable to build many rehabilitation centers which would ensure that drug addicts are able to find a place where they can access the ...
Disease Theory suggests that alcoholism and addiction are chronic diseases that cannot be cured. 12-step programs and many rehabilitation centers are also in alignment with Disease Theory. This report discusses how a Disease Theory framework affects the treatment of substance abuse disorders.

Childhood obesity is a rising problem worldwide problem. The World Health
Organization (WHO) believes that childhood obesity is one of the “most serious public health
challenges of the 21st century” (Howard, 2019). Obesity in children and adolescents is expected
to exceed the occurrence of those that are underweight and malnourished in the world by the year
2022 (Howard). According to the WHO, the number of obese children in the world increased
from 32 to 41 million over the past 25 years (“GHO”, n.d.). In 2016, the obesity rate in children
under the age of 5 in the United States was 22.7 and 18 percent in children over the age of five
(“GHO”). New Zealand’s rates of childhood obesity are very similar to the United States, with
20.6 percent of children under the age of 5 and 15 percent in the childhood population over 5
years old (“GHO”). The purpose of this paper is to discuss the global health impact of childhood
obesity as well as compare the United States with New Zealand on obesities impact, policy
implementation, and plans to improve this rising health dilemma.

Domestic Violence
The purpose of this analysis is to provide a wide introduction to the problem of injury in
the U.S., and help in the development of an innovative way of thinking about commencing a plan
for injury prevention. Although injuries are a major problem in the United States, they can as easily
be prevented. There are a lot of models that work in prevention of both intentional and
unintentional injuries.
Creation of a warm and welcoming environment is an effective strategy in preventing
incidences of violence at the community level. This strategy aims at addressing problems at a
community level, concentrating on the development of structured and supervised opportunities for
community members and addressing various kinds of violence through multiple types of solutions.
An entire community should be treated like a patient instead of individual-based treatment
strategies. Taking a social environment prevention strategy means that there is focus on prevention
of violence. This illustrates that apart from attaching importance in developing formal laws to
punish violence perpetrators, prevention of violence is a key element. Therefore, approaches
should be aimed at averting the incidence of both violence and injury cases in the first place.
Regulation is also an effective element in preventing unintentional injuries. This involves
passing policies related to serving alcohol, policies for legal driving age, worker safety policies
and concealed weaponry laws. These efforts result in a reduction of incidents on injuries. The
most important concept is that there are numerous ways in which a community and people, at an
individual level, can intervene to prevent injuries and violence in communities. The social
environment is very important and issues of violence should be displayed on mass media to
discourage such behaviors, while also sensitizing people on the same.
Access to Health Care
Access to health care in the United States encompasses a system of service providers that
make a complete system. In this light, the access to health care has been a subject of discussion
since the early 1870s. Importantly, the access to health care has grown over time from home health
care provision to the hospitals in large cities (Gulliford & Morgan, 2013). Notably, the history of
the health care in the United States has been motivated by the series of endless scientific
innovations over the years. In this way, the innovations have seen the system grow from the
constraints of health care access to the decline of mortality rates due to increased access to health
care. Clearly, in the early 1990s, the chronic diseases rose to be the leading causes of deaths
(Gulliford & Morgan, 2013). In this light, the developed systems that constituted of the new
procedures such as the x-rays and chemotherapy improved the health care access to the society.

A Strategic Approach: GenAI in EducationPeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.
2. Drug abuse is a problem that involves
communities as much as it does individual users.
Drug abuse can increase family stress, crime and
significant health problems. Treatment
programs, designed to reduce the negative
effects of drug addiction within a
community, are costly to implement and are not
always effective (Withers, 2013).
3. Family Stress
• Marital stress (Withers, 2013).
• Place the children of users at a greater risk of
emotional problems, physical problems and
learning difficulties (Withers, 2013).
• Parents who abuse drugs or alcohol tend to
neglect their children leaving them to their own
devices. Because they are preoccupied with their
addictions, they fail to provide the proper
guidance that children need especially during
their growing years (King, 2008).
4. Crime
• Drugs and crime are interrelated
(Marvist, 2013).
• In order to support expensive drug
habits, users sometimes engage in crimes such
as robbery, prostitution or even aggressive
panhandling (Withers, 2013).
• Drink driving contributes to over 30% of fatal
road crashes (WA Government, n.d.).
5. Treatment concerns
• Drug abuse exposes users to a variety of
health risks including pregnancy
complications, brain damage or even death
from overdosing (Withers, 2013).
• These illnesses can be expensive for society to
cure (Palme, 2007).
6. Fatalities
• Deaths stemming from violent crimes by
substance abusers (Withers, 2013).
• Child-maltreatment fatalities caused as a
result of substance abuse by a child’s primary
caregiver (Withers, 2013).
• In 2010, 29% of all fatalities had a blood
alcohol concentration (BAC) of over 0.05g/mL
(WA Government, n.d.)
