Dragon Dreaming
A holistic approach to projects and entrepreneurship
© 2019 Isac Casapu
Traditional approach - What’s missing?
 Very left-brain!
 Body, imagination etc. out of the game
 Serious, little room for joy
 Decisions made in small circles, without broader
involvement
 Emphasis on results at the expense of sustainability
Some Tenets of Dragon Dreaming
• Inspired by traditional
cultures, especially
Aboriginals
• The edge of Chaos –
structure & freedom
• Communities, relationships,
endeavors as living, dynamic
Songlines 🎼🎶
• Inclusion of often unheard
voices – inside and outside
• Playfulness and joy
Win – Win - Win
The Project Wheel
• Looking both inward (individual /
team) and outward (results)
• Cyclic, Fractal
• Start from Dreaming – open and
unstructured
• Celebration
• Keeps team from wearing
• Acknowledge learning and
development
Here Be Dragons!
Fear, uncertainty, doubt…
 Good Enough for now, safe enough to try
 Multiple ways to get involved:
enthusiast, apprentice, mentor.
Ego, status …
 Listen to everyone, knowing they have a perspective
to share, and can add intelligence
 Great care to record contributions verbatim.
I left my GANTT Chart in the office …
Dragon Dreaming, Agile & Startups
 Emphasis broad involvement of stakeholders from early on
 User stories
 Co-location
 🐓 & 🐷 - Degrees of involvement
 Notion of entrepreneurial ecosystem
 Retrospective as a form of celebration
 Sprints as cycles
 MVP – Is it good enough for now? Is it safe enough to try?
 Step away from the computer and handle full-body size things
 Stand-up
 Agile boards
 Company cultures mixing order and chaos
 References to traditional cultures – Wiki, Ubuntu…
If Agile Boards could play Didgeridoo…
