2. Who was Dr. B. R. Ambedkar?
DR. B.R. AMBEDKAR, WAS A PROMINENT SOCIAL
REFORMER, JURIST, AND POLITICIAN IN INDIA. HE
IS WIDELY REGARDED AS THE ARCHITECT OF THE
INDIAN CONSTITUTIONAND A CHAMPION OF
SOCIAL JUSTICE AND EQUALITY.
HE WAS GREAT AND VISIONARY LEADER, WHO
DEDICATEDHIS LIFE WORKING FOR THE
UPLIFTMENT AND EMPOWERMENT OF
MARGINALIZEDCOMMUNITIES, PARTICULARLY
THE DALITS.
HE WAS THE FIRST MINISTER OF LAW AND JUSTICE
OF INDEPENDENT INDIA. HE ALSO GAINED A
REPUTATION OF A SCHOLAR FOR HIS IMMENSE

3. Early Life
• Dr. BR Ambedkar was born in the town of Mhow
in the Central Provinces (now Madhya Pradesh),
India, to Bhimabai Ramji Sakpal and Ramji
Maloji Sakpal on April 14th, 1891.
• He belonged to the Mahar caste, which was
considered untouchable in the caste system. Due
to this, he faced many challenges while growing
up. However, he was determined to do something
great.

4. Education
• Despite facing discrimination and social
exclusion, he enrolled in the Elphinstone
High School, being the only ‘untouchable’
there.
• He pursued education and obtained degrees
in economics and law from prestigious
institutions in India and abroad, including
the University of Mumbai, Columbia
University, and the London School of
Economics.

5. Fight Against Caste Discrimination
• Throughout his life, Dr. Ambedkar fought
against the social evils of caste discrimination
and untouchability. He advocated for the rights
and empowerment of the oppressed castes,
particularly Dalits (formerly known as
untouchables).
• Dr. Ambedkar actively participated in various
social and political movements, highlighting the
injustices faced by Dalits and advocating for
their social, economic, and political upliftment.

6. Heading the Drafting Committee of the
Indian Constitution
• Dr. Ambedkar played a pivotal role in
shaping the Constitution of India. He was
appointed as the Chairman of the Drafting
Committee and was instrumental in drafting
the Constitution, which was adopted in
1950.
• The Constitution of India includes
provisions to safeguard the rights of
marginalized communities, promote social
justice, and eliminate caste-based
discrimination.

7. Legacy
Dr. B.R. Ambedkar left the world
on December 6, 1956, leaving
behind a significant legacy as a
social reformer, scholar, jurist,
and the architect of the Indian
Constitution. His teachings and
ideas continue to shape
discussions on social justice,
equality, and the empowerment of
marginalized communities in India
and beyond.
