EMS provides life-saving healthcare to patients outside of hospitals. It is delivered by EMRs, EMTs, and paramedics responding to 911 calls. The goals are to provide on-scene intervention quickly and transport patients rapidly to emergency departments. Door County EMS was established in 1970 and was the first rural paramedic program in Wisconsin. It operates ambulances staffed by EMTs, AEMTs, and paramedics out of stations in Sister Bay, Sturgeon Bay, Brussels, and Washington Island.
