In this sermon, Christians were admonished and warned against complacency in their Christian journey. An example was taken from the case of the Israelites were, out of all men above the age of 20 at the time of Exodus, only two entered the Promised Land. Christians are encouraged to stand firm lest they fall prey to the enemy and his antics.

All of us ought to separate the precious from the vile, the truth from the error and sound doctrine from fables. We cannot delegate this responsibility to anybody else. To this end we have been freely given the written word of God that by the grace of God through faith in his name we might be lead into all truth through the Holy Spirit.
I hope this series of meditations will help the word of God renew your mind and that you will be ready for the appearing of the Lord Jesus Christ.

In Jude 17-23 Jude shifts from piling up examples of false teachers from the Old Testament to a series of practical exhortations that flow from apostolic instruction. He preserves for us what may well have been part of the apostolic catechism for the first generation of Christ-followers. In these instructions Jude exhorts the believer to deal with 3 different groups of people: scoffers who are "devoid of the Spirit", believers who have come under the influence of scoffers and believers who are so entrenched in false teaching that they need rescue and pose some real spiritual risk for the rescuer. In all of this Jude emphasizes Jesus' call to rescue straying sheep, leaving the 99 safely behind and pursuing the 1.

Don't Quit the Race
1. Don’t quit the Race
by
Brian Birdow
Sermon text: Hebrews 12
www.cmcoc.org
2. Objective of Lesson
1. What are the Hebrew Christians guilty of… are about to
be?
2. What do the faithful examples of old teach us?
3. What is the weight that easily besets?
4. Encourage you to stay faithful until God call’s us home.
3. Purpose of letter
• Trying to get Christians of Hebrew background not to revert
back to Judaism. To finish the race they had started.
• These Christians would be more comfortable in their old
religion. There is just one problem, it cannot save! God makes
that point in chapters 8-10.
• Hebrews 10:1-2 For the law having a shadow of good things
to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with
those sacrifices which they offer year by year continually make
the comers thereunto perfect. For then would they not have
ceased to be offered? Because that the worshippers once
purged should have had no more conscience of sin.
4. Hebrew Christians guilty?
Taking their eyes off GOD.
• Hebrews 2:1—Therefore we ought to give the more
earnest heed the things which we have heard, lest at any
time we should let them slip.
• Hebrews 2:9—But we see Jesus, who was made a little
lower than the angels for the glory and honor; that he by
the grace of God should taste death for every man.
• Hebrews 12:2 …turn with me please…
5. Hebrew Christians guilty?
The sin of unbelief
• Unbelief—A refusal to obey God. A refusal to put trust in God.
Unwillingness to commit oneself to God or respond positively to His
actions.
• Matthew 13:58—He did not perform many miracles there because of
their unbelief. (ref. Matthew 11:21-23)
• Hebrews 3:19— So we see that they were not able to enter because
of unbelief.
• Hebrews 4:11—Therefore let us be diligent to enter that rest, so that
no one will fall, through following the same example of disobedience.
6. Admonishment commit
• Hebrews 10:32-39…turn with me please…
• Knowing in yourselves that ye have in heaven a better
and an enduring substance….Cast not away therefore
your confidence which hath great recompense of reward.
(Emp.BB)
• We are not of them who draw back unto perdition, but of
them that believe to the saving of the soul.
7. Hebrews 11
• If you are going to go back to Judaism, then go back and
observe the faithfulness of God’s children under serious trials!
• In spite of opposition, they did not revert back to Egypt or Babylon.
You likewise do not revert back to Judaism! It cannot save you!
• You can't be like Abraham, Sarah, Abel, Moses, or Joseph if you
quit! We see faith in action with those listed. Ref. Hebrews 11:6
• Hebrews 11:13- These all died in faith, not having received the
promises.
8. Hebrews 12
• Every runner in the Christian race must set their eyes on
Christ until they finish the race!
• There are others at the finish line and they are cheering us
on!
• Lets consider Jesus!
