From my experience in doing my Swede of Five’s song ‘Keep On Moving’ I have
developed and improved many different skills about a Sweeded Marketing
Campaign. One of such is my filming ability. I changed angles of the camera to get
a better shot and also panned the camera around during a shot to reveal more
and to stay true to the music video. I have also developed my editing abilities by
cutting shots downs to the correct size so as to keep the lip sinking in time with
the actual vocals from the music video. My skills in working as a team were
improved because we had to co-operate as a group to make sure our dancing
was in time and we also had correct lyrics etc. One example of my directing skills
came when I had to tell my fellow team where to stand in shot to ensure that
everyone was in view of the camera to get a convincing end product.
I also used digital technologies in different ways, which educated me about the
music industry. One way I learnt about digital technologies was how they can
benefit singers get discovered (i.e. Justin Bieber was discovered on YouTube and
can earn over 20 million US dollars a year now.) These digital technologies can
also help unsigned artists produce their own music by it, again, being available
on YouTube but other sites such as Spotify may have some unsigned artists on
their playlists which will increase the amount of people who listen to them and
will buy their album. Also sites like SoundCloud allow artists to upload their own
music and anyone can listen to it, giving them a leg up into the music industry.
Social media sites also allow popularity of unknown bands to spread as people
can tell their friends and others to ‘Like ‘ their Bands fan pages on Facebook or
follow them on Twitter. Their they can inform people about up and coming
singles or post them and that gets them noticed on the big scheme of things
where a possibility for them to get signed or their songs to get noticed. They can
also inform people about their ‘gigs’ with ease on social media rather than having
to advertise with posters, which they may have had to do, if not for Facebook or
Twitter. These sites may have changed how new artists get noticed, definitely
for the better when it comes to the ease in which they can get recording deals for
all companies need do is search YouTube for covers of songs or ‘originals’ and a
wealth of musical talent is at their fingertips. This could also be seen as a bad
thing for people not that good may be signed because their material is available
where as other material was not in the past so, hypothetically, the industry could
become over loaded with singers and this may mean other artists may not be
represented or get enough money as other similar artists may be in their place.
