Distance education is defined as education that takes place when the instructor and student are separated by space and/or time, with the gap bridged through technology. It is a field that focuses on pedagogy, instructional design, and technology to deliver education to students who are not physically on-site. Distance education has evolved over time, starting with correspondence education using printed materials via mail, then adding visual instruction and television, and now utilizing various multimedia technologies like audio/video conferencing.
