5. Section formula
If P divides the join of Internally in the ratio m: n
If P divides the join of these 2 points externally in the ratio m: n

In what ratio does divide the line segment joining the points A(3,5) and B(-7, 9)
Let P divide the join of A and B internally in the ratio m:n
A(3,5)
B(-7, 9)

7. 9m + 5n = 6m + 6 n
3 m = n
m : n = 1:3

8. Question 3
Find the ratio in which P(k, 6) divides the line segment joining the points A(- 4,3) and B(2,8)
Find k
A(-4;3) B(2;8)P(k,6)

9. 6 m + 6n = 8m + 3n
2m =3n
m :n = 3: 2 internally

11. Question 4
Find the area of the triangle formed by (p + 1, 1), (2p +1, 3) and (2p+2,2p)
