Web scale Discovery services are becoming the most sought after solution for Libraries to connect its patrons with the relevant information they seek. Many studies show that these services are getting wide acceptance from users as well as Library staff and making revolution in Library Information retrieval arena. Given such broad implications, selecting a new discovery service for libraries is an important undertaking. Library professionals should carefully evaluate options to meet their goal of finding the best potential match for their library. This Paper attempts to provide a comprehensive overview of Library Web Scale Discovery solutions by depicting various facets of Web Scale Discovery, how it differs from federated searching and highlights the important parameters to be considered for taking an informed and confident decision on selecting discovery service.

Essentials for the SharePoint Power User - SharePoint Engage Raleigh 2017Drew Madelung
Are you a newly minted site owner and you want to know how to get started? Or did your company just roll out SharePoint and you want to learn more about what it can do?
In this session, I will walk through what I believe Power Users need to know when they become site administrators, champions, ninjas, or owners. I will be going through things at an overview level. I will go into detail on some areas in which I have seen the biggest gaps while working with different companies. This session will go through such things as:
• How security works and how you should manage it
• Intro to libraries & lists
• Managing content types and columns
• Get better search driven content
• Building a page with search driven web parts

EBSCO Discovery Services: update and roadmapKatherine Rose
EBSCO Discovery Service is significant in its ability to expose relevant results to your library users. Its means of doing this is unique, but EBSCO recognises that the requirements of libraries and demands of library users evolves rapidly.
Richard will share road map items for EBSCO Discovery Service, highlighting how changing research habits are impacting upcoming user interface features. In addition, Richard will share details of the Holdings and Link Management (HLM) administration area and how it is evolving into a tool that does so much more than managing your holdings for EDS and Full Text Finder – from consolidating COUNTER statistics to providing Cost per Use analysis to Collection Analysis to tracking licenses and other key resource details.
Crossref Community Manager, Vanessa Fairhurst, talks about the range of services Crossref offers to support and enhance scholarly research communications. Services include Reference Linking, Cited-By, the Funder Registry, Event Data, Crossmark and Similarity Check. Information on how to get further information and support is also available at the end of the presentation.
Implementing web scale discovery services: special reference to Indian Librar...Nikesh Narayanan
Web scale Discovery services arebecoming the widely adopted Information Retrieval solution in libraries across the world to connect its patrons with the relevant information they seek. In lieu with the world trend, Resources Discovery Solution implementation is gathering momentum in Indian libraries also.
Considering the Indian Libraries scenario, this paper attempts to provide an overview of Library Web Scale Discovery solutions, its need in Indian Libraries, important parameters to be considered for evaluation of Discovery Services, essential factors to be considered prior to implementation, stages of implementation and finally some thoughts on post implementation analysis for measuring the success.
2024.06.01 Introducing a competency framework for languag learning materials ...Sandy Millin
http://sandymillin.wordpress.com/iateflwebinar2024
Published classroom materials form the basis of syllabuses, drive teacher professional development, and have a potentially huge influence on learners, teachers and education systems. All teachers also create their own materials, whether a few sentences on a blackboard, a highly-structured fully-realised online course, or anything in between. Despite this, the knowledge and skills needed to create effective language learning materials are rarely part of teacher training, and are mostly learnt by trial and error.
Knowledge and skills frameworks, generally called competency frameworks, for ELT teachers, trainers and managers have existed for a few years now. However, until I created one for my MA dissertation, there wasn’t one drawing together what we need to know and do to be able to effectively produce language learning materials.
This webinar will introduce you to my framework, highlighting the key competencies I identified from my research. It will also show how anybody involved in language teaching (any language, not just English!), teacher training, managing schools or developing language learning materials can benefit from using the framework.

Synthetic Fiber Construction in lab .pptxPavel ( NSTU)
Synthetic fiber production is a fascinating and complex field that blends chemistry, engineering, and environmental science. By understanding these aspects, students can gain a comprehensive view of synthetic fiber production, its impact on society and the environment, and the potential for future innovations. Synthetic fibers play a crucial role in modern society, impacting various aspects of daily life, industry, and the environment. ynthetic fibers are integral to modern life, offering a range of benefits from cost-effectiveness and versatility to innovative applications and performance characteristics. While they pose environmental challenges, ongoing research and development aim to create more sustainable and eco-friendly alternatives. Understanding the importance of synthetic fibers helps in appreciating their role in the economy, industry, and daily life, while also emphasizing the need for sustainable practices and innovation.
Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

Enhanced Subject Precision
• EBSCO’s professional taxonomy team developed a knowledge base of
topical concepts
• Then mapped vocabulary terms from multiple thesauri to these concepts
• When a user’s search term matches a known concept, the system uses
appropriate mapped terms to precisely search against individual
vocabularies

RESULT

Enhanced Subject Precision – WHY?
• Because each vocabulary uses its own terminologies to account for
essentially the same concept, we are able to normalize search such that
users don’t have to know how each index might develop its taxonomy
• Searchers use different search terms that are conceptually the same
• Because EBSCO has unique approach to discovery, we can further
maximize the value of these subject indexes for the benefit of the user
• Ultimately, it’s about enhancing precision in search by augmenting
unstructured keyword searches with structured subject index application

Enhanced Subject Precision – Example:
EBSCO Concept Knowledge Base: “Work-related injuries”
Subject Index #1: “occupational injuries”
Subject Index #2: “occupational-related injuries”
Subject Index #3: “work-related injuries”
When the user’s keyword search matches the “Work-related injuries” Concept,
EDS applies a subject heading expansion using the preferred subject heading in
that target database, thus matching highly relevant content.

Direct Custom Links, Link Resolver & SmartLinks+
25. | www.ebsco.com25
The link resolver is
NOT A “SOURCE OF TRAFFIC”
• It is simply a “bridge” between the article record in a given platform and
the full text on the publisher sides
• But, many times publishers can only see as far back as the link resolver
− I.E. – can’t see the origin (platform) where the user made request for full text

NISO’s D2D Committee Approved Proposal
• Proposal was submitted to D2D to enable consistent
visibility into where requests for full text originate
• When finalized, link resolvers will have guidelines on
how to pass data to content providers in consistent
manner
• Goal is to ensure that publishers (& Libraries) can
accurately identify the levels of traffic from each
platform (link resolvers are not platforms)
• Proposal awaits final NISO approval / member vote
