The Literary Analysis Of The Herodotus Of Halicarnassus
Little is known of the life of Herodotus of Halicarnassus who was born in a part of the Greek
empire in what is present day Turkey, and lived between ca. 484 and 420 BC, other than that he
was the author of the Histories. It was the first history to break with the Homeric way of relating
history by interweaving it with myth and delivering it in the style of poetry. Instead, Herodotus
produced systematic accounts of historyfollowing a chronological order, assembled as many facts
and forms of evidence as possible, and used them with a critical spirit of analysis. These documents
describe the history of the Persian wars from the fall of the Lydian kingdom in western Anatolia to
the beginning of the Archidamian War. At its heart is the

Herodotus then zooms in and pictures the conflict taking place hand to hand within a temple to
Demeter, again underscoring the intimate relationship between military violence and religious
veneration. The ferocity of war and combat is heightened here, as elsewhere, in descriptive
additions and language flavored with adjectives. Herodotus displays a detailed concern with the
accessories of combat and pays particular attention to the fact that the Persians were relatively
lightly armed. Indeed, over the course of the Histories at large, armaments emerge as an important
factor in determining military victories. Here, the Persians were neither less valorous nor weaker,
but they had no amour; moreover, they were unskilled and no match for their adversaries in craft .
The picture of the Persians as valorous but unskilled, and many in number but reckless, is not
limited to this excerpt it is one of the main themes of the Histories overall. Later commentators
have picked up on Herodotus s repeated negative characterizations of the Persians as a barbaric
race as indicative of his general way of formulating an undesirable picture of the Other. Hartog, in
particular, has spoken about Herodotus s mirror held up to the Persians, reflecting them as barbaric
and savage in comparison to the Greeks, especially in terms of their fighting methods.

Unconditional Love Essay
What is Unconditional Love and people s views? The people who sees unconditional love as non
existent trust that there will dependably be a limit to the amount you can love a person,
fundamentally you murder somebody, do your parents still love you? Presumably not, they will be
appalled with your choices. People additionally see unconditional loveas caring, sustaining,
passionate and this can be seen with our parents for instance. So, there are different perspectives
on unconditional love, as some view as it exists and some don t. As people, we may not be fit for
unconditional love, as there are loads of things that transpire that can transform us and how we act,
think and such, and I trust that there will be a point that you can break... Show more content on

It s to be happy, and for other people and creatures to be happy. In Buddhismit is taught that you
should follow the 5 rules which are to not kill any living beings, stealing, committing adultery,
telling lies or to take drugs or alcohol. It is believed that if you follow these 5 rules (similar to the
10 commandments) you will ascend to heaven. This relates to unconditional love because
Buddhism s views on unconditional love is to make other people happy. We should include others
in conversations, groups, gaming, whatever it may be, appreciate things. This is the buddhism
definition of unconditional love. In Christianity unconditional love intends to love God, Jesus and
everybody around you. It is to be sympathetic and think about others. The Catholic Church
characterizes unconditional love as that is caring and patient, Love that is not impolite or desire .
Which, unlike phychology, the Church takes a gander at unconditional love as something that is
ideal, even fundamental, in our regular daily existences. The Church trusts that all love ought to
be unconditional, in view of unadulterated feeling and feeling for others. You should always have
passion for each other and follow the 10 commandments. In Catholicism the Pope, God and Jesus
demonstrate unconditional love. Jesus loves his followers and everybody regardless. God s love
is unconditional. Dissimilar to natural love, his love doesn t vary. God couldn t care less

Analysis Of The Poem The Thou Wilt Despatch Me
Thomas Weelkes (c 1576 1623) was an Organist and a composer. He studied music at Oxford, and
eventually secured positions as an organist at Winchester College then Chichester Cathedral as a
choirmaster. Weelkes was a daring composer, using many dissonances amongst five voices and
varying rhythms tremendously. Nevertheless, he garnered significant success during his time and
wrote some of the best English madrigals. One of his most known pieces, O Care, thou wilt
despatch me is an interesting literary work as it has numerous contrasting lines. The primary lines
express a melancholic mood, but is juxtaposed with the gleeful phrase Fa la la . Weelkes emulates
this the poem s tone through the use of word painting throughout the music.

The first is evident in m. 3, when the bass, tenor, and alto sing Care , and a c seventh diminished
chord is sung. It then breaks off, and is resolved into a B major chord. Nevertheless, dissonance is
portrayed in this word again when the soprano joins in at m. 7 and an augmented c triad is sung.
This is significant in delineating the sadness of the piece. This first section continues with this
technique, oscillating between dissonance and consonance. A highly consonant area is in the
following section starting at m. 15, rightfully expressing the joy that music can bring. In m. 23,
there is a dissonance for a one beat duration before the piece returns to the melancholic text. A
dissonance is heard again in a c diminished chord between the top three parts in m. 26 in the word
deadly , bringing back the text s tension. The dissonances become less prevalent as the piece moves
into the next section discussing happiness. Properly, the first part ends on a major chord, providing
an uplifting end and supporting the triumphant mood the text brings.
The beginning of the piece, mm1 14, has longer rhythms in which notes mainly fluctuate between
half note or whole note values. The only occurrence of textual and rhythmic alignment is in mm 4
5 between the bass and alto in the word despatch . So not only do these long notes emphasize the
melancholic mood of the text, but so does the

This section makes it very clear that the purpose of this article is to evaluate perioperative safety
standards and the quality of inter professional cooperation before and after the implementation of a
safety checklist.
Abstract
The abstract clearly and effectively summarizes the research report. It was logically organized into a
background, methods, results, and conclusion section and was very useful in helping me decide
whether or not this article would be useful in answering my clinical question. This section clearly
identifies that the population being studied is the operating room staff which is relevant to my
research question.
Introduction (including literature review/use of previous research)
The report does include an introduction section although it is not clearly identified with a bold
heading. I do think that this section discusses aspects of my clinical question. This section clearly
states the relevance of the research question and its importance in nursing. The majority of the
literature cited is current relative to the publication date of the article and contributes to the
understanding of the research question.
This section presents the idea that the implementation of the Surgical Safety Checklist , which was
promoted by the World Health Organization (WHO), caused a significant decline in the occurrence

Essay about Russel Ward, The Australian Legend
When writing the quot;big picture quot; histories, historians often overlook or exaggerate certain
aspects of Australian history to make their point. Discuss with reference to one the recommended
texts.
The book quot; The Australian Legend quot;, written by Russell Ward and published in 1958 speaks
mainly of quot;Australian Identity quot;. It looks at nationalism and what has formed our self
image. There are many aspects that are left overlooked however, as the Authour makes his
assumptions. Significant parts of society are neglected consideration, these include those that weren
t from the bush, non British immigrants, the Aboriginal people and women. Also the use of

Russel Ward generalised Australians, granting us attributes such as mateship, egalitarianism and
anti authoritarianism:
quot;According to the myth the typical Australian is a practical man, rough and ready in his
manners and quick to decry any appearance of affection in others. He is a great improviser, ever
willing to have a go at anything, but willing to be content with a task done in a way that is near
enough. [...] He swears hard and consistently, gambles heavily and often, and drinks deeply on
occasion [...] he is usually taciturn rather than talkative. [...] he believes that Jack is not only as
good as his master, but, at least in principle, probably a good deal better, and so he is a great
knocker of eminent people. [...] He is a fiercely independent person who hates officiousness and
authority. [...] will stick by his mates through thick and thin, even if he thinks they may be in the
wrong. quot;
This extract shows the extent of the stereotyping that is evident in Ward s text. He makes very
broad generalisations and portrays them as fact. Notice the masculinity within this extract as well as
the absence of groups within the population other than white men. This is a one sided portrayal of
the Australian people which is far from balanced. Although most of the population lived in the city,
Ward stated that quot;a specifically Australian outlook grew up first among the bush workers in the
Australian pastoral industry, and this group has had an

The Gender Issue Of The British Educational System...
Gender is a word used to identify the differences between males and females. Educational theory
and provisions over the years was defined by gender, meaning that depending on your gender your
educational needs were outlined for you, as compared to modern day were all genders receive the
same education in Britain. Karen Bradley notes that historically, debates surrounding women s
educationhave focused on what has been characterised as the competing demands of the private
sphere of the family. (K Bradley 2002) in this essay I will discuss how the genderissue in the British
educational system influenced the educational theory and provisions. This will include looking

It would have been encouraged for women to not receive as a high of level of education because
men were seem to need it more than women, leading to women up to the 19th century not being
able to read or write. Rousseau makes a very interesting point in terms of how education differs
for men and women men and women are made for each other, but their mutual dependences differ
in degree, hence her education must, in this respect, be different from a man s education.
(Rousseau 1742). This notion from 1742 is still a widely accepted and recognised intake on the
dependences of males and females and how this effects there type of education. Jude Giles
interesting agrees with Rousseau stating that Working class women defined themselves not only in
terms of their gender but also in terms of their difference from and antagonism to other social
classes. (Jude Giles 2002)
In the 19th century women began to gain greater opportunities for employment. This century
saw the introduction of education for most working class girls; although females were
encouraged to play music and take cookery classes, it was clear to see a major breakthrough had
been made. Within the work force big changed were also made in order to make life safer for
children but also equal which had not been the case in previous centuries. In 1842 a law was
introduced which completely banned girls and

The Story Of The Wolf
A wolf walked out of the alpha s den and to the nervous crowd, sadly shook his head, No, he said,
Our beloved alpha is gone, gone to walk with the spirits. Silence filled the wolf pack s camp.
Beta Shattered Ice, the second in command, stood in front of the crowd. Dipping her head, she
said, Our alpha was old, but he was a wise leader. He expanded our territory to where no wolf
thought possible. May his spirit have eternal peace. Her gaze scanned the pack and happily
changed the subject. Now, the time has come for a new alpha to rise upon our pack.
Raincloud, the spirit wolf of rain, collapsed on his cloud. Ah. It s great to be on my cloud again
right after sending little minions down to the Earth.

Surprised, Night Shadow took a step back. Hey, I was just saying, I ll go find my own powers. Oh,
I will find powers, he thought, but maybe not my own powers to be exact.
The Earth below the clouds was in its daily nighttime. The spirit wolf pack always continued sleep,
though they really didn t need to. Just inside the range of their senses, Alpha Night Shadow slowly,
and stealthily, crept up until he was beside them. Carefully, he stole their amulets from around their
necks and slipped away.
Out of their range, he put on all six powers amulets and tried each power one by one. First, he
tried howling, which was Alpha Thunder Shaken s power. With his new loud, terrifying howl,
Night Shadow trotted to a nearby dark cloud and lifted his head, letting out a sharp, ear shattering
howl. As he howled, he raised his voice louder and louder. The thunder was so loud it was almost
able to shake the Earth.
Now it was time to test out Lightening, Piercing Eyes and Alpha Lightening Shock s power. He
crouched down, lifted his hunches, waved his tail for balance, and darkened the world. Right
afterwards, he sprinted to the earth with his new, stolen ability of speed and tireless energy. He

Girl In The Blue Coat Summary
The story Girl in the Blue Coat by Monica Hesse takes place in a German invaded Amsterdam in
1943. Hanneke Bakker is a black market worker who seeks for wanted items like food, lotion,
lipstick, cigarettes, kerosene, and other items that are hard to get during that time for her clients.
Hanneke Bakker has been struggling with the death of her love, Bas, who dies in the war fighting
for the Dutch army. Once the German had invaded they began to put strict rules on the Jewish
population. When she was dropping off an item for Mrs. Janssen, one of her clients, she asked
Hanneke to find a Jewish teenage girl named Mirjam, who disappeared from the secret room she
was hiding her in. Mrs. Janssen s most important physical attribute from Mirjam s description
was that she was dressed in a blue coat. Hanneke hesitates because it was too dangerous to help
out a Jewish person during that time but eventually accepts to help Mrs. Jansen find Mirijam.
With the help of Ollie, who is in the resistance and is Hanneke s dead boyfriend s brother, he tries
to find out where Mirijam has gone. Hanneke discovers disturbing events that have happened to
the Jewish people who were captured and where they were taken. When they discovered Mirijam
was taken to the Schouwburg, a place for captured Jewish people waiting to be deported to camps,
Hanneke and Ollie went on a mission to retrieve her. Hanneke discovers a very important truth
about the girl in the blue coat, it wasn t Mirjam.
Review:
Girl in a Blue Coat by Monica Hesse is an incredible fictional story written during real historical
events. What made the book interesting was that the author made the blue coat as a huge part of
the story, because that was the only noticeable information Hanneke had gotten about the Jewish
girl. It was fascinating to read about how some characters represented real life people that worked
together and tried to overthrow the German Regime. Monica Hesse laid out the themes of love,
loss, friendship, hope, and acceptance very well through the events that happen in the story.
Hanneke Bakker also grows as a character because she goes from having a strict business
relationship with her client to risking her life for them. Hanneke makes a very courageous

I First Heard About The Etude Op
I first heard about the Г‰tude Op. 10, No. 3, in E major composed by FrГ©dГ©ric Chopin in a
TV drama. The protagonist introduces the piece as the Song of Farewell which is about the
departure of two people. While I was listening to it, the piece walked me through a path of
memories.
This Г‰tude Op. 10, No. 3, in E major is in ternary form, with ABA sections. The piece starts
softly with legato. The narrow range notes form a motive that put people into peace. The arch
shaped phrase introduces audiences into the journey. The bass harmonyacts as an accompaniment
and footprints that guide people back to their past steps by steps. Antecedent and consequent also
appear in this piece which in the first time of the phrase, the melody comes in soft and quiet; in
the second time, the phrase gets louder and is a variation of the first phrase. To me, these two
corresponding melody acts like the process of recalling the past time. In the beginning, the
memories from the past start appearing in minds, and soon, the pictures become clearer and more
details pop up. With the uses of dynamics, first crescendo and follows by decrescendo, it develops
the sadness of the piece in which it allows the audience to fall into the memories and soon after
realising these precious times have already become the past that they can no longer go back and
the decrescendo represents a sense of regret and sorrow.
The second part, which is the B section of the piece, composes of a totally different melody and to

Theme Of Death In The Outsiders
The Outsider by S.E. Hinton is a story about a boy named Ponyboy. He was a very smart and
athletic person, but once his parents died he becomes a greaser, who does what he wants to do
and lives life by his own rules. The death of the parents in The Outsiders impacts the children by
making them take a whole new route in life. In The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, the
world is now split into districts, each at different levels of wealth. The capital, known as Panem,
supports a game and takes two children from each of the twelve districts. In the game, the children
fight for their lives, and the last one who stands wins. Katniss learned to hunt from her dad, but
when he died Katniss had to teach herself. Both books illustrate death as a social issue. S.E.

first really hurt (Wiesel 57). The author wrote this novel to make sure people knew the true story
of how the Jews had their right to live stripped away from them: The idea of dying, ceasing to be,
began to fascinate me. To no longer exist. To no longer feel the excruciating pain of my foot. To
no longer feel anything, neither fatigue nor cold, nothing. To break rank, to let myself slide to the
side of the road... (Wiesel

Hannibal Night Book Report
Will wakes up the next day after killing Ahmed feeling extremely rested. He rolls over and sees
Hannibal turned away from him, still asleep. Will scoots closer to his sleeping lover and wraps
his arms around him, nuzzling his head against the strong muscle in Hannibal s back. Good
morning, Will, Hannibal coos, pulling Will s arms around him. Sorry, Will murmurs. I always
forget that you re a light sleeper. That s alright, Hannibal says. I like waking up with your arms

mushrooms as thinly as you can. Then, take the saute pan, add melted butter and onions, frying
this until they start to soften. Next, add the mushrooms until they release the juices within them.
Lastly, add wine and wait until there is only about two or three tablespoons of it left. Add
nutmeg, salt and pepper, and balsamic. Got it? Uh I can do it. Thank God. Will walks into the

Isolation, Examination, and Identification of Gram Negative Pathogenic Bacteria Present in Urine
Used to Discover and Diagnose a Urinary Tract Infection
Joel Goodwin (100119748) and James Bagley (Partner)
5 November 2014
Two urine samples were obtained, one from the researcher, and the other from an unknown
patient labelled pt 17 . The urine samples were diluted to 10 1 and 10 2 concentrations and were
plated on TSA plates. The undiluted urine samples were also plated on MacConkey s (MAC) agar
plates, which only allow for the growth of Gram negative bacteria. All of the plates were incubated

The urinary tract naturally flushes away bacteria that are present in the urethra. However, an
abundance of bacteria present can overcome the flushing power of the urinary tract and begin to
grow. There are species of non pathogenic bacteria that inhabit the urinary tract and result in no
symptoms for the individual. A problem arises when pathogenic bacteria enter the urinary tract and
are not flushed away, this results in a urinary tract infection (UTI) (Foxman and Schaeffer, 2011).
Two urine samples were tested in lab, one from a patient known to have a urinary tract infection
and the other was of the researcher s urine. These samples were plated on a MacConkey s agar
plate (which only allows for the growth of Gram negative bacteria) and on TSA plates (which
allow the growth of both Gram positive and Gram negative bacterium). Colony counts for each
plate were recorded and the number of colony forming units per millilitre (CFU/mL) was
calculated by multiplying the number of colonies by the dilution factor. A value greater than or
equal to 105 CFU/mL is indicative of a urinary tract infection (d Entremont and Maynard, 2014).
The bacterial colonies isolated during the experiment were also exposed to the Cytochrome
Oxidase test. This test reveals whether or not the bacteria produce the enzyme Cytochrome
Oxidase, this enzyme is important in the electron transport chains of aerobic bacteria. The isolated
bacterial colonies were run on an API

Personal Philosophy Of A Head Coach
Have you ever been in a situation where you just want to speak what is on your mind? Assistant
coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there
are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the
assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact
that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an
assistant as a person who gives aid to people. To be a good assistant, Roy Williams once said, A
good assistant beats their head coachto the office and leaves after the head coach. Personally, I do
not agree that this is an important attribute of what a quality would... Show more content on

The assistant coaches must work as a middle man between the players and head coach. In
addition to being the middle man , the assistant coach must be available at any for the players
and the head coach. It appears that it is a need for assistants to have balance and safe places to
express themselves because of their role of being a sounding board. When they find their personal
safe place they are able to take care of their own personal emotions. Coach Corbett informed me
that there are things that the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has available for players and head
coaches, but nothing for the assistants. Coach Corbett made a great quote about this dilemma, Who

Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage
Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage
The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional
account of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War.
Before Henry is battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to
fight the urge to flee from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he
ultimately overcomes his guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to
depict a realistic and relatable war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and
emotion in his struggles to maintain courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that
was divergent to all prior forms of literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately
entailed the glorious and romantic aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome
details of close combat. Instead, Crane broke the barriers of literary norms in war related
literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced
and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage, Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and
gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of
experiencing battle.
One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would
be imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and

Financial Crisis Of The United States
Financial Crisis in the U.S. In 2008, the world experienced a horrific financial crisis which has
been considered one of the worst recessions since the Great Depression of the 1930s. After posing
an enormous negative effect on the U.S. economy, the financial crisis started to spread across
Europe and the rest of the world. The financial crisis ruined economies, crumbled financial
corporations and deprived lives. Over the past several years, financial innovation has presented U.S.
households with an overflowing set of financial options to choose from. On a daily basis, millions

Following the bailouts, banks worldwide have continued to struggle in the fight against financial
crime. The graph below clearly displays the severe disaster that U.S. banks have experienced in the
years following the 2008 financial crisis.
In a post crash market, financial firms face many challenges which include more severe regulations,
more demanding consumers, and how to take advantage of new technology. Financial crime costs
an estimated $20 billion in losses annually, and the operational costs of compliance continue to
grow substantially each year. Due to the complexity of financial services, detecting and preventing
fraud within the financial world is nearly impossible. The threats can be either domestic or
international and they may originate internally or externally. Perhaps the most disturbing statistic in
the 2010 ACFE study is the one showing that only 6.7 percent of fraudsters had previous

means that 85.6 percent of the frauds were committed by persons who had never been charged with

How Does Paine Present The Struggles At Valley Forge
Looking Past the Struggles at Valley Forge THESE are the times that try men s souls. The
summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their
country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. (Paine 153)
The winter at Valley Forge, during 1777, held small struggles. like missing your family, to the great
struggles of almost dying from starvation and dysentery. The soldiers at Valley Forge
had little food
to eat and were either too cold or could not breath because of the smoke in the cabins. The men
that lived during that time, however, did not give up. They did not stop to order some pizza of
their iphone when they were hungry. Even after watching men stop and take their last breath, they
kept moving forward through the trials. Though some would think this crazy, if I were at Valley
Forge during the winter of 1777 and 1778 I would have decided to re enlist for three reasons which
are: the army needs healthy men, to be free you must contribute in the work, and we cannot quit if

in Thomas Paine s journal entry. If Britain continues to tax, the colonists will not have enough
money to buy the things they use to survive like food, clothes, etc. This reason would cause me to
re enlist because they will think that we don t want to do anything to stop Britain from raising the

Teen Messaging Influence On Teens
It s a well known fact that adolescents adore messaging. Overviews indicate it has turned into their
favored type of correspondence, with youths sending and getting a normal of 167 writings for every
day. The greater part of the discourses encompassing messaging and adolescents have concentrated
on the impact messaging has on social aptitudes and up close and personal social collaborations,
and additionally it being a risky diversion while driving. However, another examination
recommends that while messaging turns into a urgent propensity, it can hurt teenagers
scholastically. This affiliation, notwithstanding, was just found in young ladies. It creates the
impression that it is the enthusiastic idea of messaging, as opposed to sheer recurrence, that is
dangerous, lead analyst Kelly M. Lister Landman, PhD, of Delaware District Junior college, said in
an announcement. Enthusiastic messaging is more mind boggling than recurrence of messaging. It
includes attempting and neglecting to reduce messaging, getting to be noticeably protective when
tested about the conduct, and feeling disappointed when one can t do it. Lister Landman and her
partners reviewed 403 understudies in grades eight and 11 out of a semi rural town in the Midwest.
The scientists planned a scale measuring urgent messaging by asking understudies questions like:

Reflection About Perseverance
The Apostle Peter s words of wisdom in 2 Peter 1:5 8 gives directions on being a servant to God.
As Peter spoke to the church there were many outside and inside church influences that are
deceiving to a Christian. Those deceptions are still active today in our own society. To mature in
our faith, Peter provides the characters of virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance godliness,
mutual affection, and love. Each characteristic is important and coddles each other. However,
perseverance is the focus of this particular blog.
Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, especially
in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement (Perserverance, n.d.). As we are almost at
the half way mark of our program, I cannot help but to reflect on the term. Over the last year we
have all had difficulties in reaching the Fall semester, but we all overcame and continued the
pursuit for knowledge. We could not have done this without God s intercession into our lives.
There has been times, even today as I write this, I want to cave in to the lies whispers in my ears.
Knowing God has made this possible and continues to work wonders in my life encourages me to
be persistent in the pursuit.
Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to the world of sin. We have been
given a precious gift of eternal life through Jesus. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of
God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord . Peter starts the chapter by introducing himself as
Simon in 2 Peter 1:1 (2 Peter 1:1 New King James [NKJ]). He does this to announce to his
audience, he was once a slave to the world, but now a bondservant to Jesus. Who he was is no
longer the case, we have been adopted by the Father,
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing
in the heavenly places in Christ., just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world,
that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption
as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will (Ephesians 1:3 5
KJV).
In building our relationship with Jesus it is imperative that we

Fever, 1793 by Laurie Halse Anderson
Point of View: The novel is narrated by Mattie Cook in the first person. She is only able to speak
for herself. The only thoughts and feelings she displays are her own and the story is set
wherever she is. Setting: The story takes place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1973. The
epidemic hits the city in the late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with
her mother and grandfather above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical
knowledge at the time which leads to little control over the virus. They are many africans living
free in Philadelphia at the time also. There are also many mentions of the Free African Society.
The setting and plot are rather historically accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For
example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia in the year 1793 in August. As well as date
accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the time. This includes people like,
Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington. References to the Free African
Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and actually did help victims of the
yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill. Main Character: Matilda
Cook is an adventurous and independence seeking 14 year old girl. Although she always being
pestered by her mother, Mattie loves her mother dearly and worries when her mother does not

Perceptual Mapping Of A Product Or Brand
Perceptual mapping is a graphical technique that helps marketers to get a visual display regarding
perception of customers or potential customers. The position of a product or brand is displayed
comparative to their competition. Perceptual maps are often used to help the organization to

for the product. Moreover, it finds the market opportunity. It shows the empty space where brand or

Below I am going to do perceptual mapping for auto industry including rating one to five: In that

in that mapping .Those are Expensive VS Cheap and Sporty VS Conservative. In vertical axis I
have shown Sporty VS Conservative and horizontal axis I shown Expensive VS Cheap.
Moreover I rate this in five point rating scale (1 5) and attach a excel file with that for a clear
view of my mapping. In that mapping Jaguar is my selected brand and main competitors are
Mercedes and Audi. So, after reviewing that map it can be say that for this three specific brand
there has same target customer. However, among those three brands Jaguar holds a moderate
position that means they have sporty cars but not like the competitor. So, to get a better position
jaguar has to reposition this brand. For that Jaguar have to identify competitor advantages that it do
not have right now. In that mapping the market leader is Audi .That means they have different
variety of sports cars and those cars are more expensive. Mercedes holds second position in that
market that means they have more sports cars rather than Jaguar but not as many as Audi.
However, there cars are not much expensive. After analyzing this perceptual map I identify two

A nervous and upset Cousins looked on as the Chiefs marched on inexorably to the game

Cousins since the team reported to Redskins Park for the start of the 2017 season. Cousins had a
deep connection with receivers deshawn Johanson and piere garsone over course of his young
career. When healthy, the trio has combined for some spectacular performances. Washington
chose not to retain their services this year and Cousins was forced to rely on two new and
unproven receivers. Terrelle Pryor was acquired in the offseason. Pryor, a former quarterback
had one decent year for the Cleveland Browns in 2016, with 77 receptions and 1,007 yards. He
has yet to make the full transition to wide out and has a horrible penchant for dropping passes.
He shows some reluctance to go over the middle and tends to short arm balls. Players have a
nickname for receivers who exhibit this trait, alligator arms. Not exactly a compliment. Pryor has
demonstrated this irritating habit numerous times this season. He dropped a sure touchdown pass
against the Eagles in week one, perhaps coasting the Redskins a victory. The other receiver who

The Impact Of Clustering Methods For Pricing A Large...
The Impact of Clustering Method for Pricing a Large Portfolio of VA Policies 1 Variable Annuity
Variable annuities(VAs) are popular life insurance products in the insurance industry. VAs are long
term contracts designed for offering post retirement income (Bacinelloa, Millossovich, Olivieri,
Pitacco, 2011). VAs have attractive features such as dynamic investment opportunity and guarantees
against the investment and early death risks. A single premium or recurrent premiums from
policyholders are invested into the different risk return portfolio decided by the policyholders.

However, these risks interact each other and the iteraction is not fully understood. Appropriate risk
management is required. Pricing and hedging of guarantees is the major concern of the contract

goes out to play with his favourite horse, Nutty. His grandfather also gives him a gun and lots of
ammunition to kill coyotes. He shoots at many things, but then aims for a bird and kills it,
afterwards he feels ...strangely calm, as if I had been in a state of high agitation but had now come

The Is A Vessel For The Soul Essay
Ancient religions tend to believe that the body is merely a vessel for the soul. Some, in their quest
to achieve a more significant spiritual attachment with God, have lambasted their bodies as symbols
of weakness and seek to rectify it through self mutilation or starvation. In Judaism, for example, the
Old Testamentcommands that the body be kept sacred. This restricts self mutilation and even
tattoos. However, fasting is still permitted and even encouraged. Aside from the commanded Old
Testament fast days such as Yom Kippur, there are other Rabbinic fast days throughout the year,
and stories abound of Rabbi s fasting routinely as a means of drawing themselves closer to their
soul and to God. Tradition even claims that Moses fasted for forty days upon the mountain before
receiving the Old Testament from God. Within Christianity, however, many went even further.
Instead of just fasting, many actively starved themselves and inflicted bodily harm upon them.
Fasting does remain a significant part, though, as proven by Jesusfasting for forty days and other
Saints following his example. This was a trait of Saints, who insisted on going through severe trials
and tribulations in order to conquer their own bodies. Some Saints would even make the ultimate
sacrifice of Martyrdom. Often, this was more pronounced among women who had the additional
impurities that were not as pronounced in men.
Rev Michael Geisler of St. Louis speculates that the purpose of the self mutilation was

so by analysing examples of leaders behaviours, the national culture of a country and the effect of
culture on an organisation.
The leadership behaviours of corporation leaders can affect its culture by influencing the
members of the corporation from top down. Culture is taught to employees by those in
experienced managerial positions; so regularly practised that it becomes the norm, and is then
emulated by new employees who continue the behavioural patterns (Hellriegel et al. 2004, cited
in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87; Kruger 2003, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87). As

The Media s Role Of A Democratic Nation
The news media is an important aspect of a democratic nation, as one of their roles is to be a voice
of the public to mediate between the public and the government. Anderson (2007) asserts that the
normative roles of the news media in a democratic society are to undertake the role of the fourth
estate, act as a watchdog, and when necessary, as a counterbalance to those in society who abuse
their power. In other words, the media s function in society is critical to ensuring a balanced
governance and providing reliable information to the public. It is the primary institution within
which the public can better understand its society and the world around them. This paper

They are also expected to report news that informs, engages and educates the public on issues that
affect them, news that is independent of vested interest (Mcquail, 1994). Most of the ethical codes
as stated above, concentrate on providing reliable information to the public as well as avoiding bias
and sensationalism in the news.
On the other hand, Atton (2003) describes alternative media as a critical means to challenge the
standardised and professionalised practices of mainstream media. It is guided by a purpose other
than profit, unlike mainstream media which is often structured to promote consumption of the
products it advertises (Skinner, 2009). Alternative media does not claim to be objective. It does not
consider itself bound by the conventions of journalism. It sees itself as providing a platform for
everyone to voice their opinions (i.e. a platform for horizontal communication) (Hackett Zhao,
2002). What I found through my research is that mainstream media does not always follow its role
of maintaining ideal journalistic standards. It more often focuses on reporting sensational news for
entertainment commercial purposes, rather than news that intellectually informs, engages and
educates the public. Mehrotra (2011) defines media sensationalism as the style of reporting news to
the public which involves use of fear, anger, excitement and crude thrill undertaken by the media to
increase the

Pleasing Films for Historians and Mainstream Audiences
The transition from historical information to cinema is often a dangerous and controversial road,
few films are able to consistently please both historians and mainstream audiences. The topic of
Sino Japanese relations and China s anti Japanese war is frequently explored in the medium of
film. Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the
Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek
to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different
perspectives involved. Although the medium of film can never accurately portray history or ever
hope to achieve the detailed work of a scholarly source, it can provide an emotional understanding
of some of the most chaotic periods of human history. The Second World War involved more than
100 million people from thirty different countries resulting in the deadliest conflict in human
history. How can anyone make sense of that on paper other than listing the number of casualties?
Film, deeply aware of its limitations has become a different form of understanding the past, capable
of taking a particular event such as war and exploring universal themes. Historian Natalie Zemon
Davis states that: Historians want to chronicle what happened, to be sure, but also to explain why it
happened and what difference it made...Although there is an inevitable dialogue between the past
and the present, the

Maurice Noble s Wile E. Coyote
While watching the cartoon Wile E. Coyote one cannot help but see the world this coyote
inhabits. One knows it is this cartoon by the backgrounds where Wile E. Coyote lives in the
desert. Maurice Noble created this background and throughout his career he was a production
designer, background artist and layout designer. He worked for Disney, Warner Brothers and
Metro Goldwyn Mayer and his career spanned 60 years but he did not get the notoriety like the
animator Chuck Jones. Since background work is less noticeable compared to the characters,
Noble s work was not as recognized. Noble started out doing design work for a department store
but was then hired by Disney to work on the animated movies producing background paintings and

The Frank Capra movie Lost Horizon was a favorite of Noble. From this movie, he drew
inspiration for some of his work in What s Opera, Doc? and How the Grinch Stole Christmas and

look at still frames of the movie, but he would remember distinct scenes and use them in his

COMPSTAT and the Newark Police Department Essay
The COMPSTAT ( Compare Statistics) system was developed by the New York Police Department
in 1994 and is credited with having a significant impact on the reduction of major crimes in New
York city. COMPSTAT is internationally recognized as having become an extremely successful
tool, incorporating accurate crimeintelligence analysis methods and streamlining law enforcement
management processes, including the seeding of power to local district commanders. In broad
strokes, COMPSTAT can be described as a series of process used for the collection and analysis of
criminal intelligence data which in turn assists commanders in developing effective strategies and
tactics to combat crime.
The effective reduction of crime and quality of life ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
DDPIA is a integral part of that process that involves the gathering and analysis of timely and
accurate criminal intelligence information, crime statistics and other data such as emergency
incident and management information, traffic data, and individual anecdotal information such as
routine police reports. Criminal statistical information is crucial to COMPSTAT to enable analysts
to structure information in ways that can assist managerial decision making processes. Through the
compilation of a wide range of data sources it is possible to search for and determine larger patterns
and trends, which in turn allows commanders to make strategic decisions about resources,
manpower, operations, plain clothes operations and beat policing activities.
What changes in strategy have taken place as a result of the implementation process?
The COMPSTAT process has not changed the fundamental approach to policing at the grass roots
level. Traditional law enforcement tactics, which have long been a staple in police activities across
the board, still remain the preferred method for dealing with crime on the street. However, it is
important to note that the DDPIA process

Movie, Film Stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, And...
Wanted
Wanted! When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal,
old western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it
stands for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in
this world never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do.
We go through trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives
more satisfying, including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie,
Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme
represented in this movie is not only deceit and lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by
Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity.
His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he
always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat
up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand
anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he
was learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life
Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, Wanted). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces
the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target
(Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to
complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his
shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ).
He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and
perseverance.
Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when

Comparing The Prophets Of Haggai, Zechariah And Malachi
Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were the three prophets from the period following the
Babylonian captivity. It was in 538 B. C. when Cyrus king of Persia issued a decree allowing the
Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (NIV Study Bible, 2008: 1418). That period
was called Restoration Period or post exilic period. Haggai was a post captivity prophet when
Zerubbabel led the first group back from Babylon. Together with Zechariah, they were concerned
with the rebuilding of the temple which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and the
Babylonians (Hag. 1 2; Zech. 4:8 NKJV). By that time people were living comfortably in their
paneled houses, his first message was to warn the people that if they continued to neglect the Lord s
house, they could expect nothing but drought. They obeyed the word of the Lord and began
rebuilding the temple (Haggai 1:12 15 NKJV) (http://home.hiwaay.net/~wgann/walk/malachi.htm).
Zechariah started his prophecy in 520 B.C., the same year that Haggai ministered but for only
three years. It was in the eighth month of the second year of the Persian king Darius (Zech. 1:1
NKJV). His ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...

collection from the prophet Moses with the law and the prophet Elijah with the promise and the

The Cross And The Switchblade By David Wilkerson
In his book, The Cross and the Switchblade, David Wilkerson explains how his ministry started.
Over 15 million people have read his book which was published in 1962 through The Berkley
Publishing Group, and in 1969, his book became a Hollywood motion picture that reached over 50
million people. Wilkerson did not stop at this book. In fact, he continued to write over 30 more
books. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) With that said, The Cross and the Switchblade s thesis
statement is that the Holy Spiritis in charge. David Wilkerson, a country preacher from
Pennsylvania, is the founder of Teen Challenge. This organization started in 1958 and still runs
today as a ministry to save those with habits that are life controlling. Teen Challenge has become
one of the most effective ways to reach out to teenagers and young adults who are dealing with
issues related to gangs, drugs, and alcohol. However, the road to success was very challenging
for Wilkerson and his team. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) Anyone who picks up The Cross
and the Switchblade is Wilkerson s potential audience. He wrote this book in order to share his
journey of starting the ministry that we now call Teen Challenge. Most likely, Pentecostals will
read this story. Even so, this book can also be an instrument in salvation for others. I believe that
Wilkerson understood both of these statements and, thus, wrote his book in such a way to minister
to all peoples. An emphasis is placed on the Holy Spirit

  • 2. The Literary Analysis Of The Herodotus Of Halicarnassus Little is known of the life of Herodotus of Halicarnassus who was born in a part of the Greek empire in what is present day Turkey, and lived between ca. 484 and 420 BC, other than that he was the author of the Histories. It was the first history to break with the Homeric way of relating history by interweaving it with myth and delivering it in the style of poetry. Instead, Herodotus produced systematic accounts of historyfollowing a chronological order, assembled as many facts and forms of evidence as possible, and used them with a critical spirit of analysis. These documents describe the history of the Persian wars from the fall of the Lydian kingdom in western Anatolia to the beginning of the Archidamian War. At its heart is the ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Herodotus then zooms in and pictures the conflict taking place hand to hand within a temple to Demeter, again underscoring the intimate relationship between military violence and religious veneration. The ferocity of war and combat is heightened here, as elsewhere, in descriptive additions and language flavored with adjectives. Herodotus displays a detailed concern with the accessories of combat and pays particular attention to the fact that the Persians were relatively lightly armed. Indeed, over the course of the Histories at large, armaments emerge as an important factor in determining military victories. Here, the Persians were neither less valorous nor weaker, but they had no amour; moreover, they were unskilled and no match for their adversaries in craft . The picture of the Persians as valorous but unskilled, and many in number but reckless, is not limited to this excerpt it is one of the main themes of the Histories overall. Later commentators have picked up on Herodotus s repeated negative characterizations of the Persians as a barbaric race as indicative of his general way of formulating an undesirable picture of the Other. He studied music at Oxford, and eventually secured positions as an organist at Winchester College then Chichester Cathedral as a choirmaster. Weelkes was a daring composer, using many dissonances amongst five voices and varying rhythms tremendously. Nevertheless, he garnered significant success during his time and wrote some of the best English madrigals. One of his most known pieces, O Care, thou wilt despatch me is an interesting literary work as it has numerous contrasting lines. It then breaks off, and is resolved into a B major chord. Nevertheless, dissonance is portrayed in this word again when the soprano joins in at m. 7 and an augmented c triad is sung. This is significant in delineating the sadness of the piece. This first section continues with this technique, oscillating between dissonance and consonance. A highly consonant area is in the following section starting at m. 15, rightfully expressing the joy that music can bring. In m. 23, there is a dissonance for a one beat duration before the piece returns to the melancholic text. A dissonance is heard again in a c diminished chord between the top three parts in m. 26 in the word deadly , bringing back the text s tension. The dissonances become less prevalent as the piece moves into the next section discussing happiness. Properly, the first part ends on a major chord, providing an uplifting end and supporting the triumphant mood the text brings. Hanneke discovers disturbing events that have happened to the Jewish people who were captured and where they were taken. When they discovered Mirijam was taken to the Schouwburg, a place for captured Jewish people waiting to be deported to camps, Hanneke and Ollie went on a mission to retrieve her. Hanneke discovers a very important truth about the girl in the blue coat, it wasn t Mirjam. What made the book interesting was that the author made the blue coat as a huge part of the story, because that was the only noticeable information Hanneke had gotten about the Jewish girl. It was fascinating to read about how some characters represented real life people that worked together and tried to overthrow the German Regime. Monica Hesse laid out the themes of love, loss, friendship, hope, and acceptance very well through the events that happen in the story. Hanneke Bakker also grows as a character because she goes from having a strict business relationship with her client to risking her life for them. Hanneke makes a very courageous ... This Г‰tude Op. 10, No. 3, in E major is in ternary form, with ABA sections. The piece starts softly with legato. The narrow range notes form a motive that put people into peace. The arch shaped phrase introduces audiences into the journey. The bass harmonyacts as an accompaniment and footprints that guide people back to their past steps by steps. Antecedent and consequent also appear in this piece which in the first time of the phrase, the melody comes in soft and quiet; in the second time, the phrase gets louder and is a variation of the first phrase. To me, these two corresponding melody acts like the process of recalling the past time. In the beginning, the memories from the past start appearing in minds, and soon, the pictures become clearer and more details pop up. With the uses of dynamics, first crescendo and follows by decrescendo, it develops the sadness of the piece in which it allows the audience to fall into the memories and soon after realising these precious times have already become the past that they can no longer go back and the decrescendo represents a sense of regret and sorrow. A value greater than or equal to 105 CFU/mL is indicative of a urinary tract infection (d Entremont and Maynard, 2014). • 22. Personal Philosophy Of A Head Coach Have you ever been in a situation where you just want to speak what is on your mind? Assistant coaches get this awful feeling more times than what they should. In all sports at any level, there are always going to be the people who help the head coach. These people are known as the assistants. I find it quite fitting that these individuals are given the title assistant, given the fact that their role is exactly how one would define this word. Webster s Dictionary would define an assistant as a person who gives aid to people. To be a good assistant, Roy Williams once said, A good assistant beats their head coachto the office and leaves after the head coach. When they find their personal safe place they are able to take care of their own personal emotions. • 24. Realism and Romanticism within The Red Badge of Courage Realism and Romanticism Within The Red Badge of Courage The Red Badge of Courage, written by Stephan Crane in 1895 gives a detailed, yet, fictional account of Henry Fleming, a farm boy who joins the Union Army in the American Civil War. Before Henry is battle tested, he ponders his courage and questions whether he will be able to fight the urge to flee from battle. Henry does indeed end up deserting his comrades however he ultimately overcomes his guilt and becomes one of the best fighters in his regiment. In order to depict a realistic and relatable war scene, Crane includes Henry s realistic thought process and emotion in his struggles to maintain courage. The narrative simply revealed war in a manner that was divergent to all prior forms of literature in the 19th century. Previous novels predominately entailed the glorious and romantic aspects of war rather than the tedious, gritty, and gruesome details of close combat. Instead, Crane broke the barriers of literary norms in war related literature; the novel depicted a pragmatic experience of combat from the eyes of an inexperienced and frightened youth. In the Red Badge of Courage, Stephan Crane primarily uses religious and gory imagery as well as symbolism to contrast the romantic conceptions of war versus the reality of experiencing battle. One of the primary methods used to illustrate realism throughout The Red Badge of Courage would be imagery. The entire book is essentially an outpouring of impressions and ... The summer soldier and the sunshine patriot will, in this crisis, shrink from the service of their country; but he that stands it now, deserves the love and thanks of man and woman. (Paine 153) The winter at Valley Forge, during 1777, held small struggles. like missing your family, to the great struggles of almost dying from starvation and dysentery. The soldiers at Valley Forge had little food to eat and were either too cold or could not breath because of the smoke in the cabins. The men that lived during that time, however, did not give up. They did not stop to order some pizza of their iphone when they were hungry. Even after watching men stop and take their last breath, they kept moving forward through the trials. Though some would think this crazy, if I were at Valley Forge during the winter of 1777 and 1778 I would have decided to re enlist for three reasons which are: the army needs healthy men, to be free you must contribute in the work, and we cannot quit if we want Britain to stop taxing us.... If Britain continues to tax, the colonists will not have enough money to buy the things they use to survive like food, clothes, etc. This reason would cause me to re enlist because they will think that we don t want to do anything to stop Britain from raising the taxes so the will increase the tax amount higher and higher. However, another examination recommends that while messaging turns into a urgent propensity, it can hurt teenagers scholastically. This affiliation, notwithstanding, was just found in young ladies. It creates the impression that it is the enthusiastic idea of messaging, as opposed to sheer recurrence, that is dangerous, lead analyst Kelly M. • 30. Reflection About Perseverance The Apostle Peter s words of wisdom in 2 Peter 1:5 8 gives directions on being a servant to God. As Peter spoke to the church there were many outside and inside church influences that are deceiving to a Christian. Those deceptions are still active today in our own society. To mature in our faith, Peter provides the characters of virtue, knowledge, self control, perseverance godliness, mutual affection, and love. Each characteristic is important and coddles each other. However, perseverance is the focus of this particular blog. Perseverance is defined as a steady persistence in a course of action, a purpose, a state, especially in spite of difficulties, obstacles, or discouragement (Perserverance, n.d.). As we are almost at the half way mark of our program, I cannot help but to reflect on the term. Over the last year we have all had difficulties in reaching the Fall semester, but we all overcame and continued the pursuit for knowledge. We could not have done this without God s intercession into our lives. There has been times, even today as I write this, I want to cave in to the lies whispers in my ears. Knowing God has made this possible and continues to work wonders in my life encourages me to be persistent in the pursuit. Through the blood of Jesus Christ, we are no longer slaves to the world of sin. We have been given a precious gift of eternal life through Jesus. For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord . Peter starts the chapter by introducing himself as Simon in 2 Peter 1:1 (2 Peter 1:1 New King James [NKJ]). He does this to announce to his audience, he was once a slave to the world, but now a bondservant to Jesus. Who he was is no longer the case, we have been adopted by the Father, Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ., just as He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before Him in love, having predestined us to adoption as sons by Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the good pleasure of His will (Ephesians 1:3 5 KJV). The epidemic hits the city in the late summer months and lasts until December. Mattie lives with with her mother and grandfather above a coffeehouse her family owns. There is little medical knowledge at the time which leads to little control over the virus. They are many africans living free in Philadelphia at the time also. There are also many mentions of the Free African Society. The setting and plot are rather historically accurate and reflect the events of the time period. For example, a yellow fever strain hit Philadelphia in the year 1793 in August. As well as date accuracy, many of the people mentioned were alive at the time. This includes people like, Benjamin Rush, Jean Pierre Blanchard and George Washington. References to the Free African Society are correct too. The FAS was founded in Philadelphia and actually did help victims of the yellow fever. The last historical accuracy was the hospital at Bush Hill. Some, in their quest to achieve a more significant spiritual attachment with God, have lambasted their bodies as symbols of weakness and seek to rectify it through self mutilation or starvation. In Judaism, for example, the Old Testamentcommands that the body be kept sacred. This restricts self mutilation and even tattoos. However, fasting is still permitted and even encouraged. Aside from the commanded Old Testament fast days such as Yom Kippur, there are other Rabbinic fast days throughout the year, and stories abound of Rabbi s fasting routinely as a means of drawing themselves closer to their soul and to God. Tradition even claims that Moses fasted for forty days upon the mountain before receiving the Old Testament from God. Within Christianity, however, many went even further. Instead of just fasting, many actively starved themselves and inflicted bodily harm upon them. Fasting does remain a significant part, though, as proven by Jesusfasting for forty days and other Saints following his example. This was a trait of Saints, who insisted on going through severe trials and tribulations in order to conquer their own bodies. Some Saints would even make the ultimate sacrifice of Martyrdom. Corporate Culture, as defined by Daft and Samson (2015, p. 112), is the common code of conduct, philosophies and suppositions shared between members within an organisation that encompasses the entirety of it. All organisations have a prevalent culture that can be characterised as either stable or flexible, concentrating either on its internal or external workings as described by Cameron and Quinn s (1999, cited in Yazici 2011, p. 21) Competing Values Model (CVM) of culture. This essay will critically evaluate the chosen article s theory that a company s culture and success is determined by the attitudes exhibited by its top leaders, rather than the national culture. It will do so by analysing examples of leaders behaviours, the national culture of a country and the effect of culture on an organisation. The leadership behaviours of corporation leaders can affect its culture by influencing the members of the corporation from top down. Culture is taught to employees by those in experienced managerial positions; so regularly practised that it becomes the norm, and is then emulated by new employees who continue the behavioural patterns (Hellriegel et al. 2004, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87; Kruger 2003, cited in Mishra Raykundaliya 2011, p. 87). Films such as City of Life and Death, Norman Bethune: The Making of a Hero, Devils on the Doorstep, The Last Emperor, Nanking, Flowers of War and The Inn of the Sixth Happiness all seek to investigate this turbulent period in Chinese history and to reflect upon the many different perspectives involved. • 43. COMPSTAT and the Newark Police Department Essay The COMPSTAT ( Compare Statistics) system was developed by the New York Police Department in 1994 and is credited with having a significant impact on the reduction of major crimes in New York city. COMPSTAT is internationally recognized as having become an extremely successful tool, incorporating accurate crimeintelligence analysis methods and streamlining law enforcement management processes, including the seeding of power to local district commanders. DDPIA is a integral part of that process that involves the gathering and analysis of timely and accurate criminal intelligence information, crime statistics and other data such as emergency incident and management information, traffic data, and individual anecdotal information such as routine police reports. Criminal statistical information is crucial to COMPSTAT to enable analysts to structure information in ways that can assist managerial decision making processes. Through the compilation of a wide range of data sources it is possible to search for and determine larger patterns and trends, which in turn allows commanders to make strategic decisions about resources, manpower, operations, plain clothes operations and beat policing activities. What changes in strategy have taken place as a result of the implementation process? The COMPSTAT process has not changed the fundamental approach to policing at the grass roots level. Traditional law enforcement tactics, which have long been a staple in police activities across the board, still remain the preferred method for dealing with crime on the street. • 46. Movie, Film Stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, And... Wanted Wanted! When you hear, or say that term, the visual that may come to mind may be: criminal, old western movie, or even a comparison to a relationship. But in relation to the movie Wanted it stands for nothing but a guy that wanted no more in life but to find his purpose. A lot of us in this world never actually find our purpose in life, we just kind of settle for what we are able to do. We go through trials and tribulations to find ourselves, and find anything that will make our lives more satisfying, including putting ourselves in harms way to do it. This film stars Angelina Jolie, Morgan Freeman, and James McAvoy, which names all scream a killer movie to me. The theme represented in this movie is not only deceit and lack of ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The first theme demonstrated in this movie is Perseverance, which was illustrated in the film by Wesley, and his determination to go through all the physical test to meet standards of the fraternity. His whole intention throughout the movie was to prove that he could become more than what he always has considered himself, which is below average. When Wesley was in training he got beat up by multiple people in the fraternity, in an attempt to make him physically strong to stand anything. He learned tasks including fighting, knife work, and also how to curve a bullet. When he was learning to curve the bullet Sloan, played by Morgan Freeman, states The first time in your life Wesley, you are in control (Bekmambetov, Wanted). As he shoots multiple bullets and still pierces the wrong target, Fox then stands in the middle of him and the target and says, shoot the target (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). As hesitant as he was he knew he had to have confidence in himself to complete the task. As he shoots around Fox, not knowing if the bullet would hit her, he takes his shot and hits the correct target. Sloan then says Welcome to the fraternity (Bekmambetov, Wanted ). He then knew all his hard work had paid off! That part of the movie showed strength and perseverance. Another way both themes, deceit and perseverance, were shown was at the end of the movie when ... • 47. Comparing The Prophets Of Haggai, Zechariah And Malachi Haggai, Zechariah and Malachi were the three prophets from the period following the Babylonian captivity. It was in 538 B. C. when Cyrus king of Persia issued a decree allowing the Jews to return to Jerusalem and rebuild the temple (NIV Study Bible, 2008: 1418). That period was called Restoration Period or post exilic period. Haggai was a post captivity prophet when Zerubbabel led the first group back from Babylon. Together with Zechariah, they were concerned with the rebuilding of the temple which had been destroyed by Nebuchadnezzar and the Babylonians (Hag. 1 2; Zech. 4:8 NKJV). By that time people were living comfortably in their paneled houses, his first message was to warn the people that if they continued to neglect the Lord s house, they could expect nothing but drought. They obeyed the word of the Lord and began rebuilding the temple (Haggai 1:12 15 NKJV) (http://home.hiwaay.net/~wgann/walk/malachi.htm). Zechariah started his prophecy in 520 B.C., the same year that Haggai ministered but for only three years. It was in the eighth month of the second year of the Persian king Darius (Zech. 1:1 NKJV). • 48. The Cross And The Switchblade By David Wilkerson In his book, The Cross and the Switchblade, David Wilkerson explains how his ministry started. Over 15 million people have read his book which was published in 1962 through The Berkley Publishing Group, and in 1969, his book became a Hollywood motion picture that reached over 50 million people. Wilkerson did not stop at this book. In fact, he continued to write over 30 more books. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) With that said, The Cross and the Switchblade s thesis statement is that the Holy Spiritis in charge. David Wilkerson, a country preacher from Pennsylvania, is the founder of Teen Challenge. This organization started in 1958 and still runs today as a ministry to save those with habits that are life controlling. Teen Challenge has become one of the most effective ways to reach out to teenagers and young adults who are dealing with issues related to gangs, drugs, and alcohol. However, the road to success was very challenging for Wilkerson and his team. (Worldchallenge.org, 2014, pg. 1) Anyone who picks up The Cross and the Switchblade is Wilkerson s potential audience. He wrote this book in order to share his journey of starting the ministry that we now call Teen Challenge. Most likely, Pentecostals will read this story. Even so, this book can also be an instrument in salvation for others. I believe that Wilkerson understood both of these statements and, thus, wrote his book in such a way to minister to all peoples. An emphasis is placed on the Holy Spirit ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
