1080 Is A New Zealand s Largest Environmental Debate Essay
1080 is arguably New Zealand s largest environmental debate dating back to the first time was
widely used in New Zealand back in 1957. 1080 is the shortened name for Sodium Fluoroacetate
and is a poison that is mixed into baits that are then used to control a large range of introduced
pests like possums, stoats and rats in New Zealand. Without controlling these pests the New
Zealand native bush and native species would be decimated. 1080 is a very effective poisonand it is
reported by The Department of Conservation (DOC) that 1080 kills approximately 98% of
possums and 90% of rats in the targeted drop area. 1080 is dropped on targeted areas via
helicopter to ensure that it is not dropped anywhere it shouldn t be. 1080 costs approximately $17
per hectare according to the DOC website. New Zealand imports 80% of the total amount of 1080
produce in the world.
How does 1080 work?
1080 works by once it is eaten by the animal it deactivates many enzymes however the important
enzyme that it deactivates is aconitase this is the enzyme that is important in the Krebs cycle that
converts food into energy. The Krebs cycle is the metabolic pathway that is used by all aerobic
organisms to produce ATP. ATP is important as it is the energy that is used in the body to do pretty
much everything. So when the animal cannot produce ATP the bodily systems begin to shut down.
This means that the animal will starve to death therefore it is not a very nice way to die and it can

Who Won The Battle Of Hastings
Duke William of Normandy won the battle because he was well prepared, had enough to time to
organize, rest, had good weapons and had a well trained army including archers, infantry and
Calvary. In total, William had approximately 7500 men ready to battle whereas King Harold
unfortunately had only 4500 voluntary village people who volunteered to battle and only five
hundred professionally trained soldiers. They prepared carefully for the battle. The Normans had
knights on horseback (Calvary) who were skilful fighters. William also was skilful and ambitious,
and he was determined to be King of England. In the Bayeux Tapestry, it shows William s army
preparing for battle, embarking huge ships filled with wood and supplies such as wine,
weapons, and horses. There are also pictures of the knights in full battle armour riding out to war.
William s men also had better armour and weapons, for example: the cavalry were all equipped
with mail hauberk, there is some evidence that archers used crossbows in addition to bows and
arrows, some battle maces were also used along with spears and swords, round shields and kite
shaped shields. This meant that the Normans were more protected from the English, than the

The Battle of Hastings was fought in the autumn time, and many of Harold s English army were
made of farmers (the Fyrd) a number of them had to return home to harvest their crops, or else
when the English came back, they would all be famished and on top of that, most of his best
soldiers had died in the Battle of Stamford Bridge therefore Harold has less soldiers. Also, once
hearing the news that the wind changed directions when they just won the Battle of Stamford
Bridge, Harold s army (even though they were badly injured) had to race back to the south coast of
England marching 250 miles just to battle William thus resulting in Harold s soldiers feeling
exhausted, tired and

The Walt Disney Company Using Second Life As A Public...
Virtual communities such as Second Life have revolutionized communication channels for public
relations professionals. The virtual communication platform uses the integration of social and
digital media to communicate with target audiences. The internet based simulated environment
permits users to not only interact with each other, but with products and services provided by
organizations and individuals. Thus, Second Lifehas become an interactive, collaborative and
commercial communication channel to connect to and influence global audience behavior (Barnes
Mattsson, 2011).
Already internationally recognized, the Walt DisneyCompany was an early participant of Second
Life. The purpose of Disney s virtual world establishment was to give Disney fans a place to
hangout, enjoy the scenery and get updates about the parks (McConnon Reena, 2007). The five
advantages of the Walt Disney Company using Second Life as a public relations tool are: Tourism
and international public relations have a positive relationship, access to target audience feedback
through personal interfaces, Second Life serves as another platform for dissemination of
information and promotion of organizational activities, the content of the virtual world creates an
hyperreality for identified target audiences and the platform removes geographically barriers
encouraging people from around the world to collaborate. According to Curtin and Gaither (2007),

How Does Jane Austen Portray Women In Northanger Abbey
Northanger Abbey, a Strong Refection of Regency Society Through the way Jane Austen portrays
female characters in Northanger Abbey, it is clear that she strongly disagrees with the social
expectations of women in her time. During the Regency period when Northanger Abbey was
written, women were very limited on what they could do, due to lack of education, the societal
restrictions, and the overall opportunity available. These limitations caused females to have to take
their public appearance and social standpoint very seriously, because their only way having a
secure future, was marrying a respectable man. Catherine Morland, Austen s heroine, is faced with
all of these pressures, from her early childhood all the way into her adult life. Austen... Show more

Allen, Austen mocks the expected appearance of women in society. Mrs. Allen though kind,
never has anything to talk about other than gowns or fashion. For example, when Catherine is in
serious need of guidance after missing a formal engagement with the Tilneys, the only advice
Mrs. Allen is able to offer Catherine in her time of need is Go by all means my dear; only put on
a white gown; Miss Tilney always wears white (Austen 61). Mrs. Allen s care for appearance is
further exemplified when Catherine is getting important advice from Mr. Allen about riding
around in open carriages with different men. Mr. Allen sees it Is not right , while Mrs. Allen s
only objection to the subject is Open carriages are nasty things, a clean gown is not five minutes
wear in them (Austen 71). An issue that could tarnish Catherine s reputation in a society and all
Mrs. Allen cares about is how it could affect ones dress. Due to Mrs. Allen s existence being
consumed with fashion, it has left her a blank slate, having done nothing real with her life.
Austen makes this apparent to the reader in a scene where Mrs. Allen runs into her old school
friend, Mrs. Thorpe. Mrs. Thorpe, though widowed, as raised a big family, and has set her oldest
sons up for a possible bright future. Mrs. Allen, according to Austen Had no similar information to
give, no similar triumphs to press on...... which left her only to commit on how Mrs. Thorpe s
pelisse , was Not half as handsome as that of her own her own (Austen 18, 19). Having nothing to
contribute to the conversation, Mrs. Allen is left resulting to the only things that gives her life
meaning: gowns, dresses and fashion. Though relationships and appearance are big issues for
women in Austen s eyes, perhaps the thing she despises the most is the expected education level of
women, which she addresses through her main character,

How Does Cleopatra Change Throughout The Play
Did violate so itself. (III. x. 22 24) Cleopatra s fleeing from the scene has confused many critics,
but it is a profound insight into Cleopatra s psyche. There is no answer, why she left the
battlefield in the middle of the war. When asked by Antony about the reason of her departure
from the war she only gives a lame excuse of womanly fear: O my lord, my lord Forgive me my
fearful sails: I little thought You would have follow d (III. xi. 55 57) This excuse of womanly
fear from a courageous and majestic woman as Cleopatra is not only lame but also unbelievable.
There must be some political tactics. As Antony was no longer powerful and a safeguard of her
throne as before, she might have thought to shift from him to Octavius. In addition, her fleeing

Clever women, Euripides had warned hundreds of years earlier, were dangerous. 3 From the
opening of Shakespeare s play, we are introduced to Cleopatra s domination over Antony. Her
dominance to Antony in theatrical terms, in military terms, and ultimately in sexual terms
(Dusinberre 57) confirms the imbalance of gender equality in the play, and we consider
Cleopatra the character with the most control. Cleopatra s distinctive qualities are emphasized
by Shakespeare when he compares her to Venus, and Isis. Cleopatra s power continues
throughout the play as Antony continues to make political decisions based on his feelings for
Cleopatra. He follows her into a battle by sea, even after being warned by Enobarbus that their
efforts would be stronger on land. He withdraws from the sea battle inappropriately and in doing
so discards his responsibilities as commander and male. Rocking the balance of gender,
Cleopatra fills the role of a dominant male by being assertive in her decision making while
Antony follows her like a lovesick school boy. Thus, Shakespeare has presented Cleopatra as such
a powerful woman who can wrap great men around her finger. Her personal charisma far exceeds
her talents as a

Burma, or Myanmar, and its people. Suu Kyi has done a lot of fearless things for Myanmar, and its
people, and she proves that you can do pretty much anything you want to in this world, when

Myanmar ; Schraff 1994:84). Suu Kyi s father, Aung San , ran the 1940 s nationalist movement ,
that secured Burma s freedom, from Britten, and in 1948, Burma got its independence from
Britten ( Ashby, Gore Ohrn 1995: 285; Schraff 1994:84). But Suu Kyi s Father, wasn t there to

The andragogical model is one s own concept on one s self. | The role the learners experience|
Adults come into an educational activity with both greater volume and a different quality of
experience from that of youths (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). Adults have lived longer
than the youth and therefore their experiences are different. There are some potential effects that
are negative in nature with having greater experience. Mental habits, biases, and presuppositions
tend to develop as experience is accumulated. This may cause one to close their minds to new
ideas, fresh perceptions, and alternative ways of thinking (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). |
The difference in the two models is that is the pedagogical model, the learners experience has
little worth. The teachers, the textbook writer, and the audiovisual aids producer are the only
experience that counts. | Readiness to learn| Adults become ready to learn those things they need
to know and be able to do in order to cope effectively with their real life situations (Knowles,
Holton, Swanson, 2012). The tasks associated with progressing from one stage to the next are
very rich sources of readiness to learn. One need not wait around to be ready, there are techniques,
such as career counseling, and simulation exercises to help induce readiness. | In the pedagogical
model, if the learner

Essay On Jury Tampering
Jury tampering is when there is attempted influence on the decisions of a jury during the course of
a trial; this is a crime. It could be when jurors are intimidated or bribed into performing in a certain
manner while on duty. In the United Kingdom, non jury trials are allowed under the Criminal
Justice Act 2003 when there is risk of jurytampering.
Reform of The Jury
Despite its historical role in the English Legal System and the almost sacred place it occupies in
the public imagination, the jury has come under increasing attack in recent years. Reforms could
generally mean Acts of Parliament. A broad range of proposals have been suggested for the reform
of the jury system.
The 1999 Jury Proposals
The government declared its intentions to introduce legislation to control the right to jury trial.
Principally, in either way cases, it wished to disallow a defendant from insisting upon trial by jury
where magistrates believed that they were well suited to hear the case. The Bar, civil rights groups
and other lawyers condemned the proposed reform. The government then issued the Auld Report, in
order to review the whole criminal justice system. Its main recommendations on the jury system
were;

Proof Vs Burden Of Proof
Law and order exist for the purpose of establishing justice and when they fail in the purpose they
become the dangerously structured dam that block the flow of the social progress . The quote
illustrates that justice and fairness is the crux elements during court proceedings. Therefore, the
factfinder need to consider from a logical thinking and in compliance with the natural justice theory
which focus on right of fair trial (audi alteram partem). The natural justice theory is guaranteed with
Art 6 of European Convention on Human Rights(ECHR) right of fair trial . Both of them

Therefore, every detail of the court proceedings is importance especially the allocation of burden
of proof. Across the years, the issue on who shall bear the burden of proof during litigation still
remains in a vague situation because the judge strike a balance between the states and the
accused. The definition of burden of proof is the legal obligation of one party having the
responsibility to prove the issue of contention on the required of standard of proof. The burden

The Girl Who Gets Gifts From Birds
Over the course of many years, people and animals have shared a critical connection. Such as,
how animals have been used for medical use, transportation, and comfort. Over the past couple

Noises Off Play Review
Last month, I had the privilege of attending the play Noises Off, a British splat stick comedy set
during the eighties. I had no prior information going into this performance, besides that it
involved a lot of door slamming and people prancing in their underwear. So, I knew that the play
was going to be very goofy and the characters hard headed. However, I had no expectations of
how I would be feel attending the play. I was not expecting to feel self conscious, agitated, and
exhausted from that experience. In all honesty, I did not care about my appearance when I
attended Noises Off. Even though I knew it it was a professional company that produce the play,
I still felt that it was a casual setting. So, I was surprised to find other patrons dressed to the
nines. Compared to them in their dresses and pressed slacks, I stuck out like a sore thumb with
my tank top and yoga pants. On top of that, I wore my hair out in its natural state which is a giant

Hazing College Campuses
On college campuses, students have different events and parties to celebrate accomplishments that
have been made, and some colleges may even have sororities that throw annual parties for specific
occasions. Students are given freedoms that were uncommon to when they were in high school;
consequently, scholars are not aware of the dangers that may arise in the world. A show starred on
Music Television (MTV), Sweet/Vicious, explains the emotional distress and changes that females
may go through after being assaulted. Although some people may believe that females ask for what
happens to them, this is not accurate in all cases. Additionally, women are not the only people to be
affected by sexual assault, but the majority of the cases are females. Colleges need to value
reports of sexual assault and be aware of the actions that happen on campuses to discontinue the
amount of ladies who are drugged, hazed, and mentally or emotionally devastated on school

The Aztecs And The Aztec Civilization
The Aztecs had one of the most successful and advanced empires of all time. They had a dwelling
culture The Aztec civilization was located directly in the middle of two mountain ranges in the
central valley of Mexico ( Platt 10). Although the Aztec empire eventually came to an end they
were able to do well as an empire. Contributing factors that led to the rise of the empire was their
political structure, social components, and religious traditions which they preformed earnestly.
The Aztecs were one of the last tribes to arrive in Mexico, in 1195 CE, when they arrived in the
Valley of Mexicoother tribes had taken the best land so the Aztecs were left with the swampy
shores. They soon adapted and began to conquer their neighboring tribes. They continued to
expand until they had their very own empire. The empire continued to thrive, until the Spanish
arrived and had a fixed mind set on wanting the empires region of land. Although Social classes
made a significant contribution to the culture, by organizing and controlling the people, there
were ways for movement between classes. Aztecs had three main social classes which included
the nobility, commoner, and slaves. Children were born into their classes, however on rare

College Essay On Peer Pressure
Eyeballing the Gatorade bottle as it became full of smoke, I knew I had caved into peer pressure.
Peer pressure can be a big obstacle for lots of teens. Although peer pressure can sometimes be a
positive, it is often harmful and damaging. That type of negative influence from one s peers can
lead them to try things they usually would have no interest in trying. When I was about to turn
thirteen, I learned just how true my previous statement was. All it took for me to experience peer
pressure for the first time was a couple of grams of marijuana.
When I was younger, I would spend most of my summer nights playing video games with my
friends. Most nights, you would find me with one friend in particular, and that friend was (at the
time) sixteen year old Kevin Gomez. I would walk to Kevin s house since he lived a couple of
minutes away from me. This night however, Kevin and I agreed to meet at his aunt s house due to
her being on vacation.
Sitting on his aunt s beige couches that had been wrapped in plastic, we had begun the night the

The Core Values Of Social Work
Statement of Purpose
Social work concentrates not only on the wellbeing of society, but also the welfare of individuals,
families, groups, and communities. Social work is a critical tool in acknowledging national
controversial issues such as transparency in the government but can also address local concerns,
like gang related activity within a community. It means seeing issues affecting daily lives and
taking the initiative to enact a solution. Social work encompasses many facets such as community
development, program development, public policy, intervention, and direct one on one
communication. The core values of social work for me include the overall well being of society,
social justice for all, equality, and dignity among individuals. ... Show more content on

Not long after, they enrolled her in school and extracurricular activities. She was getting the love
and support as a young girl should, and she recognized it. She even said to me one day, Ashley, I
m so lucky now. I knew she was comparing her new opportunity to her old situation. As the
school year went on, she formed a close bond with her foster brother and they even began to
refer to each other as sibling. I witnessed the familial love grow organically between the family
and Chelsea. After two years of being considered a foster child, the family was finally able to
legally adopt Chelsea. The adoption day was incredibly meaningful to the whole family. Chelsea
had a new last name and the family officially had a new daughter/sister. Working with Chelsea and
the family, completely changed my views of the foster care and adoption system. I learned that
children could grow to love their adoptive parents as their own, and vice versa. The experience can
both be appreciative and enlightening for everyone involved.
After college, I searched for a career in which I could continue to help children. Luckily, I was
offered a position in the finance department at the Children s Institute, Inc. (CII). I would be
indirectly helping children, but nonetheless contributing. The Children s Institute, Inc. is a non

The United States would industrialize, optimism about how Americas fighting ability was

of Sea Power emphasizing the use of a more modernized fleet promised swift and total victory.
Then in the 1920 s and the 1930 s General Billy Mitchell of the Army Air Service helped to
develop the doctrine of the Strategic Airpower as a technological means to achieve quick and

Results The data has excluded 5 participants because their information was not fully completed and
their data was not analysed. The independent variable of the experiment the group the participants
were random assigned to the economic uncertainty condition or the control condition of the article.
The dependent variable in this experiment was the amount of risk taking each participant made on
a scale of 1 being completely risk averse and 2 being solely risk taking. The experiment also
measured approach motivation with the BAS scale and anxiety with the BIS scale. The results of
our data clearly display the framing effect, as shown by people taking more risks in conditions
where decisions were framed as losses in comparison to gains, even when both decisions were equal
mathematically. The primary results indicated that there was no main effect of risk taking and
economic uncertainty. Furthermore, there was no link found between the economic uncertainty
and the trait approach motivation on risky decision making. Overall both main hypothesises were
not supported by the data. In exploratory analyses of the data reveals there is an interaction effect
between the economic uncertainty group and trait anxiety on risky decision making. This can be
seen in figure 1 as people with high trait anxiety that are randomly assigned to the economic
uncertainty group demonstrated

What The Stars Meant By John Koethe Analysis
There are multiple people who view the stars meaning differently. In What the Stars Meant by John
Koethe had a very beautiful, unique way of expressing what the stars meant to him. He wrote what
the stars meant to him and had described how there is no right or wrong meaning to the stars. It is
to everyone s own perspective. The theme of this poem is to explain what the stars meant to John
Koethe. He wanted to get people to view the stars that they may not have viewed them before.
Each stanza of his poem has a different meaning of what the stars mean to him. They each had a
new, beautiful way of describing the stars. He described the stars in ways that I have never
heard the stars be described before. He uses imagery to paint a picture of the glimmering stars in
your mind. He changes the imagery as he changes the different meanings of what the stars mean
to him. All throughout the poem, there are rhymes that help give it some flow and make it more
interesting. He also uses some personification by giving the stars some human like qualities. By
the way John Koethe wrote this poem, it seemed as though that he loves the stars that sparkle in
the night sky. He seems like the type of person who loves both the stars and anything else that has
to do with nature. His way of writing and his topic is what draws readers in and keeps them
interested in his poem.
If someone were to read John Koethe s poem without seeing the title or knowing the theme, many
people may think that John Koeth is talking about and describing the moon if they would not have
seen the title of the poem. They may think this until they get to line number 3 of stanza number 4
where John Koethe says, The polestar, bid his adieus, and move on (Koethe 15). This line would be
the line that gives you the idea that John Koethe is talking about the stars and not the moon.
This story is talking about the stars and what they mean to John Koethe. Stars may be mean
something different to everyone. Some people may think that there is nothing magnificent about
them, and some people may think that they are the most beautiful thing in the world. To John
Koethe, the stars were a beautiful object that appeared in the darkness of the night. He used some

The case against Judicial Review Essay
The Case Against Judicial Review
In order to make a case against judicial review it is first important to understand the origins. Born
in 1803 out of the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Marbury V. Madison, judicial
review gives the court the power to invalidate any law repugnant (or in conflict with) to the
constitution. Judicial review has for the courts, become a self made license to strike down
legitimately made legislation by democratically elected representatives. It has been a tool to restrain
laws that are in the bill stage by the threat that if the bill materializes into law then at its first
challenge the court will strike it down.
In a democratically elected society it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
This is exemplified by an individual who has brought a case through the court or legal system. Now
that its at the U.S. Supreme Court the person seeks to have the words under God removed from
the pledge of allegiance (the success of this case is unlikely because of how the court has a
conservative right wing majority). Another example of a group with their own agenda undermining
democracy is the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). The ACLU is seeking to repeal the
Bush administration s highly touted Patriot Act. This is an example of a group that is making it
their mission to skirt the proper channels of American democracy and use the judiciary to get
sweeping policy change with or without the consent of the governed people.
Judicial review has become the tool of choice for all the public interest law firms. It is through
judicial review they are able to get (properly enacted) laws struck down or thrown out. Judicial
review goes from being a tool with the intent of protecting the constitution to manipulating the
legitimately enacted laws.
In conclusion of the second argument against judicial review, it is inappropriate for individuals
and groups to have the ability to make frivolous attacks on laws that are democratically enacted.
Furthermore, it is inappropriate to clog the judiciary with requests such as removing under God
from the pledge of allegiance when they should speak to their congressman or senator over the

The Constitution And Freedom Of The United States
The Constitution and Freedom The process of debating the guiding document of the new nation,
provided the opportunity for 55 delegates to reflect on a national argument. The key issue of
strong central government verses strong states provided the dividing line between Federalists and
Anti Federalists and would be seen as the underlying theme for many of the debates. Writing as
Brutus, Robert Yates stated it succinctly, The most important question that was ever posed to your
decision, or to the decision of any people under heaven, is before you... (1787). The Anti
Federalists were concerned with maintaining freedom. The states had just fought a battle to remove
themselves from the tyranny of English control. To give up significant amounts of power to a
centralized entity would undermine what they had accomplished in winning their freedom. The
states were individually named in the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris
recognized them as free sovereign and independent states. Several steps were taken to ensure the
new federal government would not become simply a replacement for Britain as the ruler of the
states. Representation The first step towards ensuring their freedom was to establish how the states
would be represented in the new Federal government. Some form of elected or chosen
representation was needed to ensure that the states would have a direct hand in determining the
laws of the new country. The original plan proposed by Virginia

The biggest improvement they could make would be to write up a set plan for risk
management. As for an insurance company, such as Chastain and Associates, the biggest risk
they would face would more than likely be cybersecurity. As more and more of the insurance

themselves to a greater risk for cyber crimes. Keeping their private records as well as their
clients policies safe is a high priority, and with as fast as technology is moving today could be

responsibility for. There are not many risks that deal with the insurance company itself. For
example, you generally are not worried about your workers getting hurt at work and having to

Parole Officers And The Prison System
The world we live is constantly changing whether we are on the streets or in the prison system.
Society doesn t understand that being in the prison is the almost the same as being on the streets.
For instance, there are inmates that sell drugs and rob and kill people and cover it up just as if
they were on the streets. There are correctional officers that work there, but they can t observe
everything that goes on in the prison system. This is one of the reasons that being a parole officer
would be a good job to have. The streets are already bad enough so taking some of the bad guys
off the streets can help get the community back under control. Parole officer not only help in the
streets the help in the court house. Parole officers can help the judge make decisions on what the
inmate should be given whether its freedom or jail time. Parole officers have allot of offenders to
keep in contact with when they have not had contact with the offender this becomes a violation
and their parole can be revoked. (https://pap.georgia.gov/parole violations revocations) In the
past few years I have seem allot of inmates in back in prison because they could not follow the
guidelines for parole and they were sent back to prison to finish their sentence. When an offender
applies for parole a form filled and sent to his counselor which sends it on to parole. When the
parole board looks at an inmate, they look at everything especially his disciplinary history this is

Cultural Differences Case Study
Executive Summary
Cultural differences, can manifest and accentuate personal and professional mannerism. A French
manager named Chalon, with 18 years of multicultural management experience, upon moving to the
United States encounters difficulties with his management style. In order to observe the
relationship between management and cultural differences, we explored: communication; leadership
and group management roles in a multicultural environment; alternative solutions such as mapping,
bridging and integrating (MBI); freezing, pleasing or teasing leadership; effective feedback. The
ideas are a subset in evaluating cultural differences in management, but will serve as helpful
development for cultural intelligence for Chalon.

Lizabeth s Struggle In Marigolds By Eugenia Collier
Eugenia Collier created a story called Marigolds, where a poor 14 year old girl named Lizabeth
battles society and herself to overcome her problems. Collier gave Lizabeth two conflicts: a man
vs society and a man vs self. Lizabeth s external conflict, man vs society, involves her and her
family being in poverty because of the Great Depression. These times serves as the antagonist
because they caused a lot of job shortages, and it just so happened that Lizabeth s father lost his.
At first, Lizabeth and her brother did whatever kids do. They played, hung out, and did not care
about the hardships they face. But Lizabeth later realizes the situation she is in when she
overheard her parent s conversation of their struggle to find essentials. In the conversation,
Lizabeth s mother says that everybody out of work now in order to comfort her husband, who
complained about not having a job and not being able to support his family (Collier 128).... Show

She experiences many different emotions all at once, which causes an uprising within herself.
The inevitability of growing up proves to be the antagonist in this conflict because Lizabeth

to feel and when, but she had to get rid of one thing, whether it may be the Tadolescent feelings or
the adult maturity. To find out, she went through with one great impulse toward destruction
(Collier 130). She ran over to the thing she hated the most, her neighbor s beautiful marigold
flower garden. Her being in poverty caused her animosity towards the floral field. The marigolds
shone a light of hope on her ugly town, which ruined its darkness of despair. So she violently
pulled out each flower and along with it, her adolescent feelings. This defining moment left
Lizabeth with nothing but maturity, and was finally able to move forward to come of age without

Red is a color that evokes emotion and draws the eye, so in its sporadic occurrences, one s eyes
are drawn to the text in the ad and more importantly to the name of the guest star. The second
design element is line. Line is used in this scene to break apart the buildings and windows
within, and really focus the geometric shapes. Although the lines are soft and light in weight,
aside from the outer most lines of the buildings, which are hard but still thin, they are uniform in
their clear representation of the shape of the buildings and the windows. These lines depict a
vertical and horizontal relationship from the dimensions of the building and windows. From the
angle of the scene in discussion, the horizontal lines appear diagonal converging on each other at
the corners of the buildings and windows. These converging lines at the top of the buildings
demonstrate a focal point brought upon by the location of emphasis (Hemmis 2013). The lines of
the building are enclosed to the achromatic background to separate them from the background and
divide the pictorial space. The only lines that are curved in this scene appear in the ads and the
form of the free falling man. The final element is shape. The shapes in this scene are primarily
geometric. The windows and the buildings are created by the soft yet defined lines seen throughout
the scene. Linear shapes are made by the convergence

human like in form, covered in hair, and possessed faces reminiscent of monkey species.

Gun Control Laws
While many people believe there should be more gun control and the possibility of banning

reasons that may persuade people to choose to ban guns, I believe that there are several other
reasons that lead to all the tragedies with guns in America. Banning guns is not an answer the
gun problem in America, there are a few other things that could be done to stop gun violence. In

Also, many people obtain guns from stealing it from another person, or buying it off a citizen
who is unknowledgable or uncaring for the law, or the temperment of the buyer. Besides, if a
person who is of age, and has a clear record wishes to buy a gun to be violent with it, there is no
way of preventing him or her. Anyone who believes strengthening the gun control laws would
reduce gun violence is correct. However, if someone wants to kill someone, not having a gun is
unfortunately not going to stop him or her. If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to
kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts.
Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons.
Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not posses one. However I do not see it
feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be stronger penalties for people who
are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who are or threaten violence with
a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or carry them when they are
not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a stronger background check
on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this argument. A stronger penalty for
gun offenders might cause the amount of violence without a gun to rise a

The Pros And Cons Of Wilful And Wanton Doctrine
The child injured on our client s property would most likely be ruled a trespasser by the courts, as
he was not invited onto the property and willingly admitted such. A property owner only has the
duty to not wilfully or wantonly injure a trespasser. Leffler v. Sharp, 891 So. 2d 152 (Miss. 2004).
Wilful and wanton injuryhas been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard
of and indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know
is reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs.,
Inc., No. 5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. June 2, 2011) Our client probably
wouldn t be ruled to have willfully or wantonly injured the trespassing child as he did not
consciously or intentionally injure the child. There is an exception which allows for premises
liability in the absence of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability
under the attractive nuisance doctrine.
There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance
doctrine acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The doctrine
considers this, and then weighs the interest in protecting children with its second purpose: to avoid
an unreasonable burden on the property owner when ensuring their property is safe for trespassing
children. Liability to an injured child, that was either too young to appreciate

Affluenza, The Truman Show
In everyday life you are exposed to media. The media uses techniques such as: propaganda, product
placement, and facts to alter how you view a certain thing. You may not realize how the media
twist and turns such little details to change your perception. My personal view on many things were
changed in time as little as a week. We watched Affluenza, The Truman Show, and many
documentary s that showed how the mediacan change how you think. One technique that many
Medias use is advertisement. They use advertisement to get you to buy whatever they are trying to
sell. Most advertisements use statistics that are realistic, scare tactics, product placement, and
some even show bias toward another. In the Truman Show, Truman s wife was advertising coco
and a knife. She kept repeating that, that was what Truman drank and used to cook with. She made
sure the label was facing forward when she was talking about it, this is an example of product
placement. This technique of using advertisement was to pull the viewers watching the show to go
out and buy the items. They may also squeeze in sponsors that you may not even realize. For
example in the movie elf Coca Cola was hidden throughout the movie, but was never talked about

review. Unfortunately, the patients that needed this drug suffered from the malpractice of the
drug company, which consequently led to public outrage. Another example of company
malpractice was of Mylan raising the price of the EpiPen. Mylan Pharmaceuticals increased the
price of the EpiPen from $100 in 2009 to $608 in 2016. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that
many young children use in times of dire need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical
to consumers. Consumers interpreted the increase as a manufacturer profiteering off a person s
life or death needs. Mylan then justified the prince increase because they said they had
competition from Sanofi but Sanofi dropped out of the market not soon after and the price still
increased from Mylan. In conclusion, drug manufacturers definitely hold on to some blame of the
recent prescription drug price spike. Arguably, the government and insurance companies have the
ability to work with companies to streamline certain processes and decrease costs and prices.
Medicare Part D is large enough and with enough money coming in that they can bargain and
negotiate drug prices with manufacturers. This solution would decrease the average costs of most
prescriptions for senior citizens and the disabled and would say the Medicare system between
$230 billion to $541 billion. However, some

The Change Of Leaf Color
Typically, as nature starts the transformation process from summer to fall, the green leaves on the
trees begin to change into colors of reds, golds, browns, and oranges. Eventually, the leaves fall off
the trees onto the ground. Three factors contribute to the change in leaf color according to USDA s
Northeastern Area Forest Service website, which include leaf pigments, length of night, and
weather. The increasing length of night and other ecological influences such as the temperature,
rainfall, and food supply trigger the biochemical process of the leaves (na.fs.fed.us). Photosynthesis
occurs in the chloroplasts of the leaves. A chloroplast is a type of plant cell organelle known as a
plastid. Plastids support the storing of the needed ingredients for energy production. A chloroplast
contains a green pigment called chlorophyll which is the agent that gives leaves their green color.
Chlorophyll is important to the photosynthesis process as it is the chemical reaction that facilitates
plants to use sunlight to produce sugars for their food (biology.about.com). During the emergent
season, chlorophyll is repetitively produced and broken down, which causes the leaves to appear
green in color. As the nights grow longer, the production of chlorophyll diminishes and eventually
ceases production. Depending on the type of plant, as the chlorophyll becomes dormant, the color
of the leaves begins to change to reds, browns, yellows, and oranges (na.fs.fed.us).

The Arabian Nights And The Tale Of The Merchant And His...
Throughout history, many pieces of literature such as novels and poems have been translated from
a variety of languages in order to show the stories to different cultures. Although the translations are
quite accurate, many times the diction is changed based on the way the translator personally
interprets the story as well as the message he or she wants to portray to their target audience in
favour of their own culture (Sabouri and Karimzadeh, 123). An example of this is The Arabian
Nights where the authors of the stories are unknown and were all translated from Arabic to many
languages including English. Even though it was written through one perspective, once translated,
the meaning was modified to promote the Western perspective of the... Show more content on

Moreover, in The Three Apples, a man kills his wifedue to his suspicion that his wife cheated on
him. The slave who is just a stranger, that the husband believes the wife cheated on him with,
remains safe and unpunished. Therefore, it is shown that women are automatically seen as
unfaithful by their husbands and their society since even her own father is on her husband s side.
After the woman is killed, the father realizes it was a mistake but still protects the husband.
Furthermore, in The Tale of the Merchant and his Wife as well as in The Three Apples, women
are portrayed as helpless and powerless victims. In the Tale of the Merchant and his Wife, the man
takes the animals advice and decides to brutally beat his wife in order to stop her from asking him
questions. She could not stand up for herself, eventually she even decided that it was her fault and
mistake not to listen to the husband. Additionally, in The Three Apples, the woman is murdered by
her husband at the end of the story, only because he believed that she cheated on him and thought
she was unfaithful. Not only was the woman defenceless against the man but she did not even try to
defend herself. This is how the West saw the Eastern women. In contrast, in all three stories it is
apparent that men are extremely violent, cruel and controlling which is another common stereotype.

Decision Making Approaches
I Introduction
A job for a leader is to make decisions. Most managers or executives have to engage in some aspect
of decision making including coming up with ideas, evaluative alternatives, or implementing
directives (Brousseau et al., 2006). However, it could be a critical issue for decision makers to build
up proper decisions in various situations. Hence, how to adopt suitable technique in decision
making processes is a significant text for them. This essay firstly is going to discuss the benefits of
automated decision making due to improvement of technology, such as effective quality and
services. Yet, abundant limitations including environmental changes and professional shortages
will be illustrated in the next part. Furthermore, ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
In the thinking mode, executives can make decisions that are broadly defined and consist of
multiple courses of action (Brousseau et al., 2006).
Successful managers in organisations are more analytic in their style while they progress in their
jobs (Brousseau et al., 2006). Further, Elbanna and Child (2007) prove that rationality has a positive
relationship with organisational outcomes.
Nonetheless, some constraints of rational decision making process should be pointed out. Firstly, in
Brousseau et al. (2006) study, significant differences of global management culture are
demonstrated. For instance, Americans stand apart in using a flexible thinking style more and more
when they progress in their position, but the situation is reversed in Latin America. Thus, global
management should be aware of differences in culture. Moreover, real life decision making makes
more sense than people think because so much of it is beyond conscious thinking (Mintzberg and
Westley, 2001).
Intuition
To date, researchers have emphasised rational decision making processes rather than intuitive
processes (Elbanna and Child, 2007). However, all the data or information in the world cannot
trump the valuable experiences from lifetime that informs one s gut instinct, feeling as well as
intuition (Matzler et al., 2007). Dane and Pratt (2007) also state that intuition comes from

The First World War
The first world war was one of the most brutal and remorseless events in history; the global
conflict that defined a century . Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent
civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to
become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from
rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the
trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery
as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank
was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that
could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried bolt actionrifles in
which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the
British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for
getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from
trench to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running
toward the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the
weapons used in the trenches. In modern day society, machine guns are the main weapons used by
soldiers. This wasn t the case around the 1914s. They took four

The Importance Of Having A Honey-Do-List

a short list of items that show up on those honey do lists. Many you can pull off in a day or so.
Some things you will be able to do yourself, others you may need a friend to help. 1.Does your wife

What else are you going to do? Wait for some man to come along and whisk you off to suburban
marital bliss? You might as well ask for the moon by noon. Consider the facts. You made it this
far on your own, earning a living and paying the bills all by yourself. You even managed to
invest enough money to slap down the minimum five per cent and start calling yourself a
homeowner. After all, you re faced with another 40 plus years knock on wood so it s time to put
down some roots. But what happens after you move into your new dream house? Suddenly, you
re dealing with a new set of monthly expenses. Throw out the budget that carried you through the
last few years; it s time to build a new one from scratch. Once you have a new budget, start saving
like you plan to buy a second house in a few years. You re going to need all that extra cash for
things for which no budget can truly prepare you, such as repairs, renovations, and interior design
necessarily in that order. Repairs come first because you need to fix whatever is broken. Did you
get a great deal on a handyman s dream? Did you stop to consider whether or not you re handy?
Also, don t forget that appliances, heaters, furnaces, and oil tanks have a habit of breaking down at
the least convenient times, schedules and finances notwithstanding. Before you even think about
redecorating your new house, take a hard look at the layout.

Early in 1874 Bell met Thomas A. Watson, a young machinist at a Boston electrical shop. Watson
became Bell s indispensable assistant, bringing to Bell s experiments the crucial ingredient that had
been lacking, his technical expertise in electrical engineering. Together the two men spent endless
hours experimenting (Paschoff 43,44). Although Bell formed the basic concept of the telephone
using a varying but unbroken electric current to transmit the varying sound waves of human speech,
in the summer of 1874, Hubbard insisted that the young inventor focus his efforts on the harmonic
telegraph instead. Bell wanted to continue his work on the telephone but he complied. When he
patented one of his telegraph designs in February 1875, he found that Elisha Gray had patented a
multiple telegraph two days earlier. Greatly discouraged, Bell consulted in Washington with the
elderly Joseph Henry, who urged Bell to pursue his germ of a great invention speech transmission
(Grosvenor and Wesson 55). Back in Boston, Bell and Watson continued to work on the harmonic
telegraph, but still with the telephone in mind. By accident on a June day in 1875, an intermittent
transmitter produced a steady current and transmitted sound, when Watson tightened or loosened a
particular screw it produced a sound that would vary in pitch. Bell had proof of his 1874 idea; he

The Cherokee Indians Essay
The Cherokee Indians
The American Indian History in the Eastern part of the country is always associated with the
Cherokee Indian nation. The Cherokee s were by far the largest and most advanced of the tribes
when Europeans first arrived and came in contact with Native Americans. There are too many
tribes to go over background on every one of them, so I m going to focus on the Cherokee s since
many of their ways and customs are so similar to all the other tribes in the East.
When Europeans first arrived in North America, the Cherokees occupied a large expanse of
territory in the Southeast. Their homeland included mountains and valleys in the southern part of
the Appalachian Mountain chain. Their

The Cherokees practiced a variety of crafts, including basketwork and stamped pottery. They also
carved, out of woods and gourds, masks representing good and evil spirits. These masks were used
during their many hunting, agricultural and healing rituals. They held these ceremonies at key
times of the year, such as harvest time.
Each village was run by two chiefs. The White Chief, or Most Beloved Man helped the villagers
make decisions concerning farming, lawmaking, and disputes between individuals, families, or
clans. He also played a large role in religious ceremonies. The Red Chief gave advice concerning
warfare. One such decision was choosing who would be the War Woman, an honored woman
chosen to accompany braves on their war parties. The War Woman did not fight, but helped feed
the men, offered them council, and decided which prisoners would live or die. The Red Chief was
also in charge of the lacrosse games which were called
quot;little wars. quot; Lacrosse was played within tribes and against other tribes. It is one of the
first known friendly competitions between Indian tribes.
Hernando de Soto was the first European explorer to come into contact with the Cherokees, when
he arrived in their territory in 1540. The Europeans were very impressed with the highly advanced
cultures.

Eisenhower and Patton Comparison Essay
General Eisenhower and General Patton:
A Comparison
Zerrrouk (PN)
From a fiercely brave General, who strictly enforces customs, bravery, formalities, and success; to
a General with a lighthearted mood, down to earth attitude, a steadfast courage, and a integrity and
decency to lead the nations of the world into battle; while both these legendary Generals fought on
the same side, both General S. Patton and General D. Eisenhower were distinctly different
Generals. This paper seeks to outline the differences and similarities between the two Generals by
taking a close look at their lives, and the impacts they had on WWII.
George S. Patton was born on November 11th, 1885, in San Gabriel California. As Patton grew
older, he developed a ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ...
For this action he was stripped of his command over the 2nd Armored Division in Africa. Patton
could not stand to have a soldier that was anything less than what he thought a true soldier should
represent. Patton believes that courage and fear are phenomena which can be governed by training
and discipline, and that fear is lost through intense training and patriotism. Patton did not hate his
men, but he didn t want to see his soldiers hospitalized as injured men with battle fatigue or
neurosis, but as a spectacle of American bravery. Visiting his troops in the hospital got him
emotional and he state once that, They re the best damned soldiers the world has ever seen. One
day I bawl the hell out of them and the next I weep over them.
Patton was relieved of active duty until he was summoned by Eisenhower to lead the 3rd American
army in the breakthrough Normandy. Eisenhower, more than anybody, knew the talents that Patton
had in war; and with the 3rd American Army, Patton cut through the German lines all the way to
Rennes, and then to Nantes, and then stopped at Metz for gas and munitions. Patton was always a
step ahead of everyone especially the Germans. After the push stopped, Patton was ordered to move
from Saar and attack General Von Rundstedt which was deemed impossible by others but not
Patton. After Rundstedt was captured, Rundstedt gave a high praise to Patton for his

Private Property In The Communist Manifesto By Karl Marx
When I give food to the poor, they call me a saint. When I ask why the poor have no food, they
call me a communist (CГўmara). In 1847, a group known most publicly as the Communist League
met in London. This group commissioned a man by the name of Karl Marx to write a manifesto on
their behalf, soon known as the Communist Manifesto. Marx was a German philosopher,
economist, and sociologist that took his opportunity in writing this manifesto to attempt to explain
the primary goals of communism, as well as define a theory underlying the movement. Marx wanted
to argue the issues of class struggles, exploitation of people, and the process by which a revolution
could occur to better the current system. Marx s theories state specifically that the... Show more

The theory of the abolition of private property for the betterment of society is one that is vastly
misinterpreted and hotly contested by governmental theorists to this day. Marx had a rather
simple explanation for the issues surrounding it though. He had an extreme problem with the
ways in which private property was not acquired for oneself by oneself, and instead, was being
given to the minority of people that held the most power, having a great deal to do with the class
system at the time. The existence of classes and, correspondingly, the disappearance of classes in
a socialist society, in Marx s formulations are tied to social conditions in which legal title to
property ownership is in the hands of a minority of individuals (Giddens). Marx felt as though
the primary gauge of wealth within society was becoming the amount of property any given
person owned, and therefore, the majority of society s wealth existed within the minority s
hands. The activist side of Marx knew that this proposition was one that would not be taken well
within his society simply because it was threatening to attack an entire group of elitist people
that relied heavily on private property as the source of their power. Marx stated, You are horrified
at our intending to do away with private property. But in your existing society private property is
already done away with for nine tenths of the population (The Communist Manifesto, Pg. 225).
Marx suffered a great deal of criticism and objections to communism simply because the people
with the most power felt threatened by it. Communism s goal was not to keep people from
appropriating the products of hard labor, it was merely to keep them from demeaning and harming
others in the process of that

Difference Between Traditional And Traditional Education
The advancement in technology has introduced a new education program that creates diversity in
the learning systems. Today, many institutions of higher learning are or have introduced an online
program that allows students all over the world to pursue their academic dreams using their
computers. While this is an important innovative idea, most colleges and universities still maintain
the traditional classroom setup where students interact with the educator on a face to face basis.
Apparently, both programs achieve the objective of the educationsystem which is to provide
knowledge and skills to the learners. However, the two have multiple differences that make each
unique and favored by some students than the other. Therefore, this essay examines the differences
and similarities between the on online education and traditional education. The traditional and
online educational programs are similar and different in their use of learning materials, teacher
instructions, student assessment, and assignments.
Firstly, educational materials such as textbooks are an important component of learning.
Apparently, these resources are significant irrespective of the learning mode assumed by the
students. Notably, both distance learners and traditional classroom attendees use either textbooks or
online resources accessible through online libraries. In each case, students have online access to
virtue libraries through student portals that provide academic sources such as journals and online

  • 2. 1080 Is A New Zealand s Largest Environmental Debate Essay 1080 is arguably New Zealand s largest environmental debate dating back to the first time was widely used in New Zealand back in 1957. 1080 is the shortened name for Sodium Fluoroacetate and is a poison that is mixed into baits that are then used to control a large range of introduced pests like possums, stoats and rats in New Zealand. Without controlling these pests the New Zealand native bush and native species would be decimated. 1080 is a very effective poisonand it is reported by The Department of Conservation (DOC) that 1080 kills approximately 98% of possums and 90% of rats in the targeted drop area. 1080 is dropped on targeted areas via helicopter to ensure that it is not dropped anywhere it shouldn t be. 1080 costs approximately $17 per hectare according to the DOC website. New Zealand imports 80% of the total amount of 1080 produce in the world. How does 1080 work? 1080 works by once it is eaten by the animal it deactivates many enzymes however the important enzyme that it deactivates is aconitase this is the enzyme that is important in the Krebs cycle that converts food into energy. The Krebs cycle is the metabolic pathway that is used by all aerobic organisms to produce ATP. ATP is important as it is the energy that is used in the body to do pretty much everything. So when the animal cannot produce ATP the bodily systems begin to shut down. This means that the animal will starve to death therefore it is not a very nice way to die and it can take up to 40 hours ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 3. Who Won The Battle Of Hastings Duke William of Normandy won the battle because he was well prepared, had enough to time to organize, rest, had good weapons and had a well trained army including archers, infantry and Calvary. In total, William had approximately 7500 men ready to battle whereas King Harold unfortunately had only 4500 voluntary village people who volunteered to battle and only five hundred professionally trained soldiers. They prepared carefully for the battle. The Normans had knights on horseback (Calvary) who were skilful fighters. William also was skilful and ambitious, and he was determined to be King of England. In the Bayeux Tapestry, it shows William s army preparing for battle, embarking huge ships filled with wood and supplies such as wine, weapons, and horses. There are also pictures of the knights in full battle armour riding out to war. William s men also had better armour and weapons, for example: the cavalry were all equipped with mail hauberk, there is some evidence that archers used crossbows in addition to bows and arrows, some battle maces were also used along with spears and swords, round shields and kite shaped shields. This meant that the Normans were more protected from the English, than the English were... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... The Battle of Hastings was fought in the autumn time, and many of Harold s English army were made of farmers (the Fyrd) a number of them had to return home to harvest their crops, or else when the English came back, they would all be famished and on top of that, most of his best soldiers had died in the Battle of Stamford Bridge therefore Harold has less soldiers. Also, once hearing the news that the wind changed directions when they just won the Battle of Stamford Bridge, Harold s army (even though they were badly injured) had to race back to the south coast of England marching 250 miles just to battle William thus resulting in Harold s soldiers feeling exhausted, tired and ... • 4. The Walt Disney Company Using Second Life As A Public... Virtual communities such as Second Life have revolutionized communication channels for public relations professionals. The virtual communication platform uses the integration of social and digital media to communicate with target audiences. The internet based simulated environment permits users to not only interact with each other, but with products and services provided by organizations and individuals. Thus, Second Lifehas become an interactive, collaborative and commercial communication channel to connect to and influence global audience behavior (Barnes Mattsson, 2011). Already internationally recognized, the Walt DisneyCompany was an early participant of Second Life. The purpose of Disney s virtual world establishment was to give Disney fans a place to hangout, enjoy the scenery and get updates about the parks (McConnon Reena, 2007). The five advantages of the Walt Disney Company using Second Life as a public relations tool are: Tourism and international public relations have a positive relationship, access to target audience feedback through personal interfaces, Second Life serves as another platform for dissemination of information and promotion of organizational activities, the content of the virtual world creates an hyperreality for identified target audiences and the platform removes geographically barriers encouraging people from around the world to collaborate. • 5. How Does Jane Austen Portray Women In Northanger Abbey Northanger Abbey, a Strong Refection of Regency Society Through the way Jane Austen portrays female characters in Northanger Abbey, it is clear that she strongly disagrees with the social expectations of women in her time. During the Regency period when Northanger Abbey was written, women were very limited on what they could do, due to lack of education, the societal restrictions, and the overall opportunity available. These limitations caused females to have to take their public appearance and social standpoint very seriously, because their only way having a secure future, was marrying a respectable man. Catherine Morland, Austen s heroine, is faced with all of these pressures, from her early childhood all the way into her adult life. Austen... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... Allen, Austen mocks the expected appearance of women in society. Mrs. Allen though kind, never has anything to talk about other than gowns or fashion. For example, when Catherine is in serious need of guidance after missing a formal engagement with the Tilneys, the only advice Mrs. Allen is able to offer Catherine in her time of need is Go by all means my dear; only put on a white gown; Miss Tilney always wears white (Austen 61). Mrs. Allen s care for appearance is further exemplified when Catherine is getting important advice from Mr. Allen about riding around in open carriages with different men. Mr. Allen sees it Is not right , while Mrs. Allen s only objection to the subject is Open carriages are nasty things, a clean gown is not five minutes wear in them (Austen 71). An issue that could tarnish Catherine s reputation in a society and all Mrs. Allen cares about is how it could affect ones dress. Due to Mrs. Allen s existence being consumed with fashion, it has left her a blank slate, having done nothing real with her life. Austen makes this apparent to the reader in a scene where Mrs. Allen runs into her old school friend, Mrs. Thorpe. Mrs. Thorpe, though widowed, as raised a big family, and has set her oldest sons up for a possible bright future. Mrs. Allen, according to Austen Had no similar information to give, no similar triumphs to press on...... which left her only to commit on how Mrs. Thorpe s pelisse , was Not half as handsome as that of her own her own (Austen 18, 19). Having nothing to contribute to the conversation, Mrs. Allen is left resulting to the only things that gives her life meaning: gowns, dresses and fashion. Though relationships and appearance are big issues for women in Austen s eyes, perhaps the thing she despises the most is the expected education level of women, which she addresses through her main character, ... Clever women, Euripides had warned hundreds of years earlier, were dangerous. 3 From the opening of Shakespeare s play, we are introduced to Cleopatra s domination over Antony. Her dominance to Antony in theatrical terms, in military terms, and ultimately in sexual terms (Dusinberre 57) confirms the imbalance of gender equality in the play, and we consider Cleopatra the character with the most control. Cleopatra s distinctive qualities are emphasized by Shakespeare when he compares her to Venus, and Isis. Cleopatra s power continues throughout the play as Antony continues to make political decisions based on his feelings for Cleopatra. He follows her into a battle by sea, even after being warned by Enobarbus that their efforts would be stronger on land. He withdraws from the sea battle inappropriately and in doing so discards his responsibilities as commander and male. Rocking the balance of gender, Cleopatra fills the role of a dominant male by being assertive in her decision making while Antony follows her like a lovesick school boy. Thus, Shakespeare has presented Cleopatra as such a powerful woman who can wrap great men around her finger. Her personal charisma far exceeds her talents as a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...

Adults have lived longer than the youth and therefore their experiences are different. There are some potential effects that are negative in nature with having greater experience. Mental habits, biases, and presuppositions tend to develop as experience is accumulated. This may cause one to close their minds to new ideas, fresh perceptions, and alternative ways of thinking (Knowles, Holton, Swanson, 2012). | The difference in the two models is that is the pedagogical model, the learners experience has little worth. It could be when jurors are intimidated or bribed into performing in a certain manner while on duty. In the United Kingdom, non jury trials are allowed under the Criminal Justice Act 2003 when there is risk of jurytampering. So, I knew that the play was going to be very goofy and the characters hard headed. However, I had no expectations of how I would be feel attending the play. I was not expecting to feel self conscious, agitated, and exhausted from that experience. In all honesty, I did not care about my appearance when I attended Noises Off. Even though I knew it it was a professional company that produce the play, I still felt that it was a casual setting. So, I was surprised to find other patrons dressed to the nines. Compared to them in their dresses and pressed slacks, I stuck out like a sore thumb with my tank top and yoga pants. On top of that, I wore my hair out in its natural state which is a giant from. In the beginning, I found it difficult to lose myself in the performance when I heard his laughter. At one point, I debated on leaving the play all together since I found it hard to enjoy it. However, I came to my senses and realize that I was being just as obnoxious as his laugh. It is not his fault that his laugh reaches that level of absurdity. • 23. What The Stars Meant By John Koethe Analysis There are multiple people who view the stars meaning differently. In What the Stars Meant by John Koethe had a very beautiful, unique way of expressing what the stars meant to him. He wrote what the stars meant to him and had described how there is no right or wrong meaning to the stars. It is to everyone s own perspective. The theme of this poem is to explain what the stars meant to John Koethe. He wanted to get people to view the stars that they may not have viewed them before. Each stanza of his poem has a different meaning of what the stars mean to him. They each had a new, beautiful way of describing the stars. He described the stars in ways that I have never heard the stars be described before. He uses imagery to paint a picture of the glimmering stars in your mind. He changes the imagery as he changes the different meanings of what the stars mean to him. All throughout the poem, there are rhymes that help give it some flow and make it more interesting. He also uses some personification by giving the stars some human like qualities. By the way John Koethe wrote this poem, it seemed as though that he loves the stars that sparkle in the night sky. He seems like the type of person who loves both the stars and anything else that has to do with nature. His way of writing and his topic is what draws readers in and keeps them interested in his poem. If someone were to read John Koethe s poem without seeing the title or knowing the theme, many people may think that John Koeth is talking about and describing the moon if they would not have seen the title of the poem. They may think this until they get to line number 3 of stanza number 4 where John Koethe says, The polestar, bid his adieus, and move on (Koethe 15). This line would be the line that gives you the idea that John Koethe is talking about the stars and not the moon. This story is talking about the stars and what they mean to John Koethe. • 24. The case against Judicial Review Essay The Case Against Judicial Review In order to make a case against judicial review it is first important to understand the origins. Born in 1803 out of the landmark United States Supreme Court decision of Marbury V. Madison, judicial review gives the court the power to invalidate any law repugnant (or in conflict with) to the constitution. Judicial review has for the courts, become a self made license to strike down legitimately made legislation by democratically elected representatives. It has been a tool to restrain laws that are in the bill stage by the threat that if the bill materializes into law then at its first challenge the court will strike it down. In a democratically elected society it is ... Show more content on Helpwriting.net ... This is exemplified by an individual who has brought a case through the court or legal system. Now that its at the U.S. Supreme Court the person seeks to have the words under God removed from the pledge of allegiance (the success of this case is unlikely because of how the court has a conservative right wing majority). Another example of a group with their own agenda undermining democracy is the ACLU (American Civil Liberties Union). The ACLU is seeking to repeal the Bush administration s highly touted Patriot Act. This is an example of a group that is making it their mission to skirt the proper channels of American democracy and use the judiciary to get sweeping policy change with or without the consent of the governed people. Judicial review has become the tool of choice for all the public interest law firms. It is through judicial review they are able to get (properly enacted) laws struck down or thrown out. Judicial review goes from being a tool with the intent of protecting the constitution to manipulating the legitimately enacted laws. In conclusion of the second argument against judicial review, it is inappropriate for individuals and groups to have the ability to make frivolous attacks on laws that are democratically enacted. Furthermore, it is inappropriate to clog the judiciary with requests such as removing under God from the pledge of allegiance when they should speak to their congressman or senator over the ... The Constitution And Freedom Of The United States The Constitution and Freedom The process of debating the guiding document of the new nation, provided the opportunity for 55 delegates to reflect on a national argument. The key issue of strong central government verses strong states provided the dividing line between Federalists and Anti Federalists and would be seen as the underlying theme for many of the debates. Writing as Brutus, Robert Yates stated it succinctly, The most important question that was ever posed to your decision, or to the decision of any people under heaven, is before you... (1787). The Anti Federalists were concerned with maintaining freedom. The states had just fought a battle to remove themselves from the tyranny of English control. To give up significant amounts of power to a centralized entity would undermine what they had accomplished in winning their freedom. The states were individually named in the Declaration of Independence and the Treaty of Paris recognized them as free sovereign and independent states. Several steps were taken to ensure the new federal government would not become simply a replacement for Britain as the ruler of the states. Representation The first step towards ensuring their freedom was to establish how the states would be represented in the new Federal government. Some form of elected or chosen representation was needed to ensure that the states would have a direct hand in determining the laws of the new country. The original plan proposed by Virginia ... If a gun is not accessible, a person who wishes to kill someone will use another weapon that is accessible, such as a knife or bludgeon of sorts. Banning guns will lessen gun violence, but will bring up a rise in violence with other weapons. Unfortunately, many people possess guns would should not posses one. However I do not see it feasible to strengthen guns laws. I believe that there should be stronger penalties for people who are caught with a gun illegally and stronger penalties for people who are or threaten violence with a gun. This would make people think twice about smuggling a gun, or carry them when they are not supposed to. This might also influence Congress to pass a law for a stronger background check on people purchasing a gun, which would satisfy both sides of this argument. A stronger penalty for gun offenders might cause the amount of violence without a gun to rise a ... Get more on HelpWriting.net ...
  • 35. The Pros And Cons Of Wilful And Wanton Doctrine The child injured on our client s property would most likely be ruled a trespasser by the courts, as he was not invited onto the property and willingly admitted such. A property owner only has the duty to not wilfully or wantonly injure a trespasser. Leffler v. Sharp, 891 So. 2d 152 (Miss. 2004). Wilful and wanton injuryhas been defined by the courts as the conscious and intentional disregard of and indifference to the rights and safety of others, which the defendant knows or should know is reasonably likely to result in injury, damage, or other harm. Estrada v. Consol. Util. Servs., Inc., No. 5:10 CV 161 RLV, 2011 WL 2174467, *2 (W.D.N.C. June 2, 2011) Our client probably wouldn t be ruled to have willfully or wantonly injured the trespassing child as he did not consciously or intentionally injure the child. There is an exception which allows for premises liability in the absence of wilful or wanton injury to a trespasser. The exception is premises liability under the attractive nuisance doctrine. There are two main purposes of the attractive nuisance doctrine. First, the attractive nuisance doctrine acknowledges that children will trespass and may be injured while doing so. The doctrine considers this, and then weighs the interest in protecting children with its second purpose: to avoid an unreasonable burden on the property owner when ensuring their property is safe for trespassing children. We watched Affluenza, The Truman Show, and many documentary s that showed how the mediacan change how you think. One technique that many Medias use is advertisement. They use advertisement to get you to buy whatever they are trying to sell. Most advertisements use statistics that are realistic, scare tactics, product placement, and some even show bias toward another. In the Truman Show, Truman s wife was advertising coco and a knife. She kept repeating that, that was what Truman drank and used to cook with. She made sure the label was facing forward when she was talking about it, this is an example of product placement. This technique of using advertisement was to pull the viewers watching the show to go out and buy the items. They may also squeeze in sponsors that you may not even realize. Moreover, separated by a long river, on the other side is East Egg where people made of generations of wealth live. She introduces her daughter to her friends for a few minutes and then claims momma wanted to show you off. This shows that Daisy being an East sider has taken a lot for granted, she has a nurse to take care of the daughter instead of being a mother herself. The distance that separates Gatsby from Daisy lies across the span of water between their houses the very distance between West Egg and East Egg, representing a barrier between the two lovers. The EpiPen is a life saving drug that many young children use in times of dire need so the $500 price increase felt morally unethical to consumers. Consumers interpreted the increase as a manufacturer profiteering off a person s life or death needs. The Change Of Leaf Color Typically, as nature starts the transformation process from summer to fall, the green leaves on the trees begin to change into colors of reds, golds, browns, and oranges. Eventually, the leaves fall off the trees onto the ground. Three factors contribute to the change in leaf color according to USDA s Northeastern Area Forest Service website, which include leaf pigments, length of night, and weather. The increasing length of night and other ecological influences such as the temperature, rainfall, and food supply trigger the biochemical process of the leaves (na.fs.fed.us). Photosynthesis occurs in the chloroplasts of the leaves. A chloroplast is a type of plant cell organelle known as a plastid. Plastids support the storing of the needed ingredients for energy production. A chloroplast contains a green pigment called chlorophyll which is the agent that gives leaves their green color. Chlorophyll is important to the photosynthesis process as it is the chemical reaction that facilitates plants to use sunlight to produce sugars for their food (biology.about.com). During the emergent season, chlorophyll is repetitively produced and broken down, which causes the leaves to appear green in color. As the nights grow longer, the production of chlorophyll diminishes and eventually ceases production. Depending on the type of plant, as the chlorophyll becomes dormant, the color of the leaves begins to change to reds, browns, yellows, and oranges (na.fs.fed.us). Nature.com describes ... In the thinking mode, executives can make decisions that are broadly defined and consist of multiple courses of action (Brousseau et al., 2006). Successful managers in organisations are more analytic in their style while they progress in their jobs (Brousseau et al., 2006). Further, Elbanna and Child (2007) prove that rationality has a positive relationship with organisational outcomes. Nonetheless, some constraints of rational decision making process should be pointed out. Firstly, in Brousseau et al. (2006) study, significant differences of global management culture are demonstrated. For instance, Americans stand apart in using a flexible thinking style more and more when they progress in their position, but the situation is reversed in Latin America. Thus, global management should be aware of differences in culture. Moreover, real life decision making makes more sense than people think because so much of it is beyond conscious thinking (Mintzberg and Westley, 2001). Intuition To date, researchers have emphasised rational decision making processes rather than intuitive processes (Elbanna and Child, 2007). Over nine million soldiers and a large amount of innocent civilians lost their lives. Empires crumbled, revolution engulfed Russia and America rose to become a dominant world power. Huge armies deployed new weapons of devastating effect from rifles and pistols to torpedoes and flame throwers. These weapons were used not only in the trenches but by tanks too. This was an advantage to those who were able to access such machinery as they could easily launch bullets and missiles at nearby enemy bases. The downfall of the tank was the fact it was unable to cross the trenches. Tanks were not the only pieces of equipment that could access this machinery but U boats and planes too. The British carried bolt actionrifles in which fired 15 rounds per minute at a minimum range of 1,400 metres away. This allowed the British to take out foes at a far greater range. By using machinery in which rules out the need for getting up close to the enemy was a great advantage during world war one. Soldiers ran from trench to trench attacking with all that they had. This resulted in a massacre as the soldiers running toward the trenches were shot down. Machinery such as machine guns and heavy artillery were the weapons used in the trenches. The theory of the abolition of private property for the betterment of society is one that is vastly misinterpreted and hotly contested by governmental theorists to this day. Marx had a rather simple explanation for the issues surrounding it though. He had an extreme problem with the ways in which private property was not acquired for oneself by oneself, and instead, was being given to the minority of people that held the most power, having a great deal to do with the class system at the time. The existence of classes and, correspondingly, the disappearance of classes in a socialist society, in Marx s formulations are tied to social conditions in which legal title to property ownership is in the hands of a minority of individuals (Giddens). Marx felt as though the primary gauge of wealth within society was becoming the amount of property any given person owned, and therefore, the majority of society s wealth existed within the minority s hands. The activist side of Marx knew that this proposition was one that would not be taken well within his society simply because it was threatening to attack an entire group of elitist people that relied heavily on private property as the source of their power. Marx stated, You are horrified at our intending to do away with private property. But in your existing society private property is already done away with for nine tenths of the population (The Communist Manifesto, Pg. 225). Marx suffered a great deal of criticism and objections to communism simply because the people with the most power felt threatened by it.
