This document discusses the importance of digital fluency in today's digital world. It begins by defining digital fluency as knowing which digital tools to use and when. It then discusses some key aspects of digital communication, including speaking to different audiences, responding flexibly to unexpected situations, and feeling comfortable with language use. The document goes on to discuss how the digital world has changed communication and learning, including the transition from print to digital media and the ability to instantly share and edit information worldwide. It emphasizes the importance of being literate in the digital world and having a full "toolbox" of digital skills to complete tasks. Overall, the document advocates developing digital fluency to effectively communicate, connect, consume, produce and share information online.
Are educators conscious of how they are using technology? Is technology used in a way that substitutes a previously taught analog task or is it used to transform a task that would not have been possible without technology?
No One Cares About Your Content (Yet): Digital Atlanta 2012Cliff Seal
While content as 'king' may not be the best analogy, the importance of well-written, useful text content can't be overstated. Tone can affect engagement, keywords can make or break your SEO, length can kill interest—great writing is vital. Content isn't just blog posts or 'About' pages, it's everything that gives information (including the way the information itself is presented)! I'm seeing a common theme amongst non-profits: no one cares about their content.
Why?
In this session, we'll refresh how we view our own web content by seeing it through the eyes of the user, and we'll discuss methods of improving UX (user experience) by employing simple and effective psychology alongside common-sense SEO. Then, since better prospects will be finding and reading your content, I'll show you how to target your audience, measure the results, and constantly improve your outreach.

The resources and tools in schools are evolving to meet the unique needs of this generation. This presentation discusses the evolution of literacy and asks questions that will help us redefine for ourselves what we think about literacy and the importance of what SHOULD be taught in schools.
Let's look at the way we use iPads in the classroom. Are there merely a tool to automate traditionally taught tasks? How do we use the iPad as a tool to TRANSFORM teaching and learning? How does this look like in the classroom?
In the era of ubiquitous computerisation and cheap automation what skills and competencies will students need to really shine? What dispositions will lead to success? In a guided introspection workshop, which I conducted for students of Vasant Valley school and Ramjas school, R.K. Puram (both based in New Delhi), I looked at these issues.

Manifesto - for Entrepreneurs and WannabesSimon Jansen
For many business people the Internet is still a big unkown. Whilst we use it daily in our professional and private life we are often unclear on how to use the web as a business asset.
The Internet combines a challenging mix of skills and knowledge and we often get distracted by focusing on the small details, leaving out the main question: 'How can my website be profitable?'
We created the popular Manifesto to challenge you to think about your website from a consumer-centric perspective. It addresses clichés, preconceived ideas, and the most common issues that avert our focus on the important.

Let's talk about LEARNING, not technology! What are some cultural shifts in our fast changing world, that have an impact on our own learning as educators? How can we start thinking differently about learning?
Thank you to Will Richardson for his thought provoking "3 Steps to Start Thinking Differently About Learning"( learning.blogs.nytimes.com/2012/10/25/guest-post-three-starting-points-for-thinking-differently-about-learning/) , Alec Couros for his 5 Answers to Challenges of Teaching & Learning in the 21st Century" (slideshare.net/courosa/taking-on-the-challenge-of-21st-century-teaching-learning) and Steve Hargadon for his thoughts of "You First", which makes so much sense.

We live in a time and space when it is is truer than ever that "change is the only constant”.
What are some cultural shifts in our fast changing world, that have an impact on our own learning as educators and leaders? How do we adapt to this in a school environment? Can we dwell on our experience and degrees as educators and continue to stay relevant? Learning how to learn might be the most important skill we did not learn when we were in school.
Do you have to be a tech guru to be literate in a digital world? Or are the ones who are self- motivated, life-long learners and the ones who are accepting of and embracing change the ones flourishing in the modern world? We will take a look at the urgency of shifting school culture to a culture of learning how to learn. Let's talk about LEARNING, not technology!

Are the so called 21st century buzz words a cliche or yet another fad? Or are we in the middle of a learning revolution?
We are into the second decade of this “21st century” that seems to be part of labels for everything in education these days. What does it mean to be literate in 2014? What will being educated mean for the class of 2027? Is traditional reading and writing enough?
Let’s look at some of these terms, their implication for our schools, and examples of educators who have embraced “new forms” of teaching and learning.

Is traditional reading and writing enough to be considered literate in the 21st century? We need to rethink our notion of critical literacy, develop authentic learning and assessment opportunities, upgrade and amplify our curriculum.

Teachers and administrators struggle to find time to work and learn together in meaningful ways. There are plenty of meetings scheduled. Many teachers leave these meetings though with the feeling of “could have spent my time doing more important things”. How do we squeeze in one more meeting to help teachers grow as professionals? How do we add one more opportunity for teachers to learn important new skills, listen to one more educational consultant, one more expert on a new initiative? How do we give teachers the time to learn with and from their own colleagues? How can teachers learn from what is going on in the classroom next door?

Blogging is inherently a platform that encourages communication and reflection. We are taking “blogging” beyond a technology platform, and seeing it as a shift directly related to teaching and learning in modern times. It becomes a platform for learning, creating, reflecting and sharing with a global audience. The transparency of sharing one’s successes and failures openly while being a responsible digital citizen embodies risk-taking and, at the same time, opens up and invites global feedback and perspective in to develop critical thinkers.
Blogging can support the strategies, techniques and approaches to facilitate the learning in your classroom no matter what grade level, age group and subject area. Blogging supports four primary areas:
Reading
Writing
Reflecting
Sharing

The term sketchnoting describes a style of visual note-taking recently gaining popularity among conference attendees. Contrary to popular belief, you do not have to be an artist to sketchnote and to take advantage of a different type of learning and making content connections beyond conference keynotes . Sketchnoting is helping make your thinking visible and shareable as you are reading a professional book, watching a movie clip, reading an educational blog post or article or listening to a lecture of conference keynote.

Operation “Blue Star” is the only event in the history of Independent India where the state went into war with its own people. Even after about 40 years it is not clear if it was culmination of states anger over people of the region, a political game of power or start of dictatorial chapter in the democratic setup.
The people of Punjab felt alienated from main stream due to denial of their just demands during a long democratic struggle since independence. As it happen all over the word, it led to militant struggle with great loss of lives of military, police and civilian personnel. Killing of Indira Gandhi and massacre of innocent Sikhs in Delhi and other India cities was also associated with this movement.

Embracing GenAI - A Strategic ImperativePeter Windle
Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies such as Generative AI, Image Generators and Large Language Models have had a dramatic impact on teaching, learning and assessment over the past 18 months. The most immediate threat AI posed was to Academic Integrity with Higher Education Institutes (HEIs) focusing their efforts on combating the use of GenAI in assessment. Guidelines were developed for staff and students, policies put in place too. Innovative educators have forged paths in the use of Generative AI for teaching, learning and assessments leading to pockets of transformation springing up across HEIs, often with little or no top-down guidance, support or direction.
This Gasta posits a strategic approach to integrating AI into HEIs to prepare staff, students and the curriculum for an evolving world and workplace. We will highlight the advantages of working with these technologies beyond the realm of teaching, learning and assessment by considering prompt engineering skills, industry impact, curriculum changes, and the need for staff upskilling. In contrast, not engaging strategically with Generative AI poses risks, including falling behind peers, missed opportunities and failing to ensure our graduates remain employable. The rapid evolution of AI technologies necessitates a proactive and strategic approach if we are to remain relevant.

June 3, 2024 Anti-Semitism Letter Sent to MIT President Kornbluth and MIT Cor...Levi Shapiro
Letter from the Congress of the United States regarding Anti-Semitism sent June 3rd to MIT President Sally Kornbluth, MIT Corp Chair, Mark Gorenberg
Dear Dr. Kornbluth and Mr. Gorenberg,
The US House of Representatives is deeply concerned by ongoing and pervasive acts of antisemitic
harassment and intimidation at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Failing to act decisively to ensure a safe learning environment for all students would be a grave dereliction of your responsibilities as President of MIT and Chair of the MIT Corporation.
This Congress will not stand idly by and allow an environment hostile to Jewish students to persist. The House believes that your institution is in violation of Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, and the inability or
unwillingness to rectify this violation through action requires accountability.
Postsecondary education is a unique opportunity for students to learn and have their ideas and beliefs challenged. However, universities receiving hundreds of millions of federal funds annually have denied
students that opportunity and have been hijacked to become venues for the promotion of terrorism, antisemitic harassment and intimidation, unlawful encampments, and in some cases, assaults and riots.
The House of Representatives will not countenance the use of federal funds to indoctrinate students into hateful, antisemitic, anti-American supporters of terrorism. Investigations into campus antisemitism by the Committee on Education and the Workforce and the Committee on Ways and Means have been expanded into a Congress-wide probe across all relevant jurisdictions to address this national crisis. The undersigned Committees will conduct oversight into the use of federal funds at MIT and its learning environment under authorities granted to each Committee.
• The Committee on Education and the Workforce has been investigating your institution since December 7, 2023. The Committee has broad jurisdiction over postsecondary education, including its compliance with Title VI of the Civil Rights Act, campus safety concerns over disruptions to the learning environment, and the awarding of federal student aid under the Higher Education Act.
• The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is investigating the sources of funding and other support flowing to groups espousing pro-Hamas propaganda and engaged in antisemitic harassment and intimidation of students. The Committee on Oversight and Accountability is the principal oversight committee of the US House of Representatives and has broad authority to investigate “any matter” at “any time” under House Rule X.
• The Committee on Ways and Means has been investigating several universities since November 15, 2023, when the Committee held a hearing entitled From Ivory Towers to Dark Corners: Investigating the Nexus Between Antisemitism, Tax-Exempt Universities, and Terror Financing. The Committee followed the hearing with letters to those institutions on January 10, 202
The French Revolution, which began in 1789, was a period of radical social and political upheaval in France. It marked the decline of absolute monarchies, the rise of secular and democratic republics, and the eventual rise of Napoleon Bonaparte. This revolutionary period is crucial in understanding the transition from feudalism to modernity in Europe.
