A Framework for Cloud Computing Adoption in South African GovernmentGovCloud Network
Technology adoption is always a critical concern in organizations (private and public). South African government experienced this encounter when adopted Open Source Software (OSS) with the objective to reduce ICT services costs among others. The implementation of OSS in SA government has faced several challenges such as user resistance, human factor, support and funding. As a result of these challenges cost reduction has not been fully achieved. Cost reduction issue ultimately affects implementation of other government programmes such as those who yields job creation, better education, and improving health, etc. The potential alternative to address the same objective as aimed by OSS is Cloud Computing adoption. Cloud Computing promise to offer the SA government more advantages OSS. This study explore the feasibility of Cloud Computing adoption as an alternative to enable cost reduction, effectiveness and efficient of IT services in SA government as was aimed by OSS initiative.
Techaisle SMB Cloud Computing Adoption Market Research Report DetailsTechaisle
Techaisle's SMB Cloud Computing Adoption survey in US and Germany provide a detailed outline of what is needed by SMBs as we move through a period of intense growth spurred by the combination of increasing cloud penetration and increasing cloud workload density. Techaisle provides readers with the fact-based insight needed to take share-building action on these issues in this 360° on Cloud in the SMB market report. Its seven major sections are aligned with our clients’ key information requirements:
• Why is cloud being used by U.S. SMBs?
• Who is driving cloud adoption?
• What is in use
• Where is cloud being deployed?
• When will cloud usage patterns change – and how?
• Managing cloud security: roles and responsibilities
• Assessing success: key cloud solution elements
Report is delivered in PowerPoint format. Clients may also have access to Techaisle analysts, who can provide additional context for these findings and their implications for your firm. To inquire further contact inquiry@techaisle.com or visit www.techaisle.com
Besides the benefits are there possible challenges government agencies are likely to encounter should they
decide to adopt cloud computing? What strategies should be deployed to overcome the inhibitors of cloud
computing? These are but few questions this paper aims to investigate. Studies have shown that, cloud
computing has become a strategic direction for many government agencies and is already being deployed
in many critical areas of the government's cyber infrastructure. The benefits and the challenges of cloud
adoption have heightened interest of academic research in recent times. We are however uncertain, per
literature factors that hinder successful cloud adoption especially in the Ghanaian context. We posit that,
understanding the challenges of cloud adoption and overcoming them must accompany the use of the
technology in order to prevent unwanted technical consequences, and even greater problems from
government information management. This study is based on unstructured interviews from selected
government agencies in Ghana. The study is grounded on the theory of technology, organization and
environment (TOE) framework. Major inhibiting factors identified include lack of basic infrastructure for
cloud take-off, data security, unreliable internet connectivity, and general lack of institutional readiness

Data Virtualization, a Strategic IT Investment to Build Modern Enterprise Dat...Denodo
This content was presented during the Smart Data Summit Dubai 2015 in the UAE on May 25, 2015, by Jesus Barrasa, Senior Solutions Architect at Denodo Technologies.
In the era of Big Data, IoT, Cloud and Social Media, Information Architects are forced to rethink how to tackle data management and integration in the enterprise. Traditional approaches based on data replication and rigid information models lack the flexibility to deal with this new hybrid reality. New data sources and an increasing variety of consuming applications, like mobile apps and SaaS, add more complexity to the problem of delivering the right data, in the right format, and at the right time to the business. Data Virtualization emerges in this new scenario as the key enabler of agile, maintainable and future-proof data architectures.

Traditional customer engagement methods and information infrastructures are no longer sufficient. Success in the semiconductor marketplace will belong to those who are prepared for comprehensive digital and social interactions and commerce across the sales and support cycle with traditional and new prospects and customers who are “engineers” by day and “digital consumers” after hours. The industry is realizing the power of Web 2.0 technologies to reach untapped emerging markets of product developers and engineers across the globe, while increasing customer satisfaction, productivity, and profitability.
Growing Up Hybrid -- Accelerating Digital Transformation (Cloud)Casey Lucas

Neuro-symbolic is not enough, we need neuro-*semantic*Frank van Harmelen
Neuro-symbolic (NeSy) AI is on the rise. However, simply machine learning on just any symbolic structure is not sufficient to really harvest the gains of NeSy. These will only be gained when the symbolic structures have an actual semantics. I give an operational definition of semantics as “predictable inference”.
All of this illustrated with link prediction over knowledge graphs, but the argument is general.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Epistemic Interaction - tuning interfaces to provide information for AI supportAlan Dix
Paper presented at SYNERGY workshop at AVI 2024, Genoa, Italy. 3rd June 2024
https://alandix.com/academic/papers/synergy2024-epistemic/
As machine learning integrates deeper into human-computer interactions, the concept of epistemic interaction emerges, aiming to refine these interactions to enhance system adaptability. This approach encourages minor, intentional adjustments in user behaviour to enrich the data available for system learning. This paper introduces epistemic interaction within the context of human-system communication, illustrating how deliberate interaction design can improve system understanding and adaptation. Through concrete examples, we demonstrate the potential of epistemic interaction to significantly advance human-computer interaction by leveraging intuitive human communication strategies to inform system design and functionality, offering a novel pathway for enriching user-system engagements.

At the heart of any workflow is a storage system (central or federated) married to a repository
service as part of a DAM platform. It’s the most critical component to enable any workflow –
enterprise or M&E and for managing data and discovery as part of a Big Data challenge.
Such systems are largely client/server applications as well as now increasingly through the cloud,
that enable the archiving, indexing, search, retrieval, ingest, browsing, annotation, conditional
access, version control, repurposing, collaboration, display and transport of digital content.
It provides a platform for traditionally siloed systems to integrate with and provide a collaborative
workflow environment for different knowledge workers to seamlessly work on content creation,
management, repurposing and delivery.

16. On a Micro Level…
Rule of Thumb:
Content Management can save 1 hour per
day per power user
# of users x 250 (# of days worked each year)
x fully burdened average cost per hour
(salary, benefits, overhead)
Example:
A Web Content Manager in Boston costs
$200/hr fully burdened. Saving 1 hour a day
searching for content to put on the company’s
Web site = 250 x $200 = $50, 000 a year
And that is for just one knowledge worker and
one function; it does not account for the
additional productivity from applying those 250
extra hours toward other productive tasks
