The document discusses principles for designing digital services. It notes that digital alone will not change the world, but services can if they are meaningful and desirable. Several principles are discussed, including that human experiences should resonate loudest, simple solutions last longer, and great services require great teams. The document emphasizes prototyping and iterating services based on measuring real user impacts. Overall, it argues that the focus should be on creating good services, not just digital products, and that innovation is about more than just creativity.

Remember Jeff Goldblum in the original Jurassic Park? That’s me. I’m the killjoy in the room. I’m the presence that reminds you that for every advancement in technology and design, there is a potential unintended consequence. Asking whether we should is just as important as asking whether we could.
My goal is not just to kill your vibe, it’s to help you become better designers and technologists. The way to do this is to surface the outcomes – both the ones you want to happen, and the ones you want to avoid – during the design process. And the best way to do that is by prompting yourselves about the things you don’t want to think about. Tech is gonna tech. Technology optimism is a hard thing to overcome, but we at Artefact have been creating methods in our practice for having those hard conversations, and connecting them to our design work.
In this session, you’ll learn from me about how to integrate outcomes-focused thinking in your work, and how it intersects with human-centered design. Attendees will learn:
• Examples of cautionary tales in technology: decisions that have led to unintended consequences
• Key areas of focus to become a more outcomes-oriented designer
• Outcomes-focused prompts and tools to integrate into the design practice
• Applicable methods with case studies of how Artefact has integrated outcomes-focused thinking in our work
The Key to Great Teams: Understanding the Human Operating SystemAtlassian
How do organizations become adaptive, agile, and resilient? What fosters trust and makes people feel safe to speak their minds? Stefan Knecht from it-economics – a 2016 Best Workplaces in Germany award recipient – say the master key lies in a social operating system used for over 300,000 years: the human operating system (OS H). Recent findings from behavioral, cognitive, and organizational sciences help us understand parts of this system – like what makes humans tick and how groups successfully form and perform. This talk will explain the idea behind OS H and teach you how you can employ the concept in your own organization to build trust, resiliency, adaptivity, etc. Come away with a solid understanding of social needs and the company dynamics you can help create to meet these needs. Even the best tools and technology will only get you part of the way to building world-class teams.

Toronto Agile Tour - Timeless LeadershipJason Little
In 2001, Agile started as a simple set of 4 values and 12 principles designed to be a guide for delivering solutions to customers. Since then, countless frameworks, tools, certifications, and methods have emerged, with many promising to have the one right approach to make Agile work.
We need servant leadership...no wait, we need emergent leadership...no wait, we need agile management and agile leadership...no wait...
It's no wonder today's leaders and managers are confused about how to lead an agile organization. In this session, we'll explore how to look at your organization through 3 different lenses and apply 4 timeless leadership capabilities used by great leaders from organizations like IDEO, Ford, and Ikea.
Attendees will walk away with a profile that describes their individual leadership style, along with how to know how to balance each of the 4 leadership capabilities that are timeless, tried-and-true, and not rooted in agile buzzwords.
You will not become agile by implementing scrumJurriaan Kamer
Many companies have implemented Scrum and are "doing agile." However, many companies struggle to achieve the expected benefits. They will never become truly agile. Why?
Companies only doing Scrum are ill-equipped to overcome organizational impediments like anti-agile company culture, top-down leadership behavior, counter-productive organization structure, and approval processes. These challenges are addressed by doing a deep dive into the DNA differences between traditional companies and Silicon Valley-style digital organizations.

ABB Lightning & Overvoltage Protection For Water Treatment Plants
The ABB document looks at overvoltage protection for water treatment plant applications and where lightning strike can have severe repercussions for all equipment, including control and instrumentation. This fully-illustrated document looks at the effects of both direct and indirect lightning strike and how its effects can be mitigated.
Water is a fundamental utility. Its increased consumption is the reflection of population growth and an improved standard of living. Water and wastewater treatment plants are particularly exposed to lightning risks, due to vast surface areas and exposure of frequently isolated sites. Lightning strikes are a major component in the risk to be assumed, both because of the direct effect of lightning on the structure (External Lightning Protection Installation), and the overvoltages on the facility (Internal Lightning Protection Installation). The consequences of lightning on treatment plants have repercussions on all equipment and overvoltage will directly affect instrumentation and remote management devices as well as PLCs. The protection of water cycle facilities against overvoltage involves all types of structures, i.e. pumping stations, treatment plants, storage, transport and distribution.

Elevating Tactical DDD Patterns Through Object CalisthenicsDorra BARTAGUIZ
After immersing yourself in the blue book and its red counterpart, attending DDD-focused conferences, and applying tactical patterns, you're left with a crucial question: How do I ensure my design is effective? Tactical patterns within Domain-Driven Design (DDD) serve as guiding principles for creating clear and manageable domain models. However, achieving success with these patterns requires additional guidance. Interestingly, we've observed that a set of constraints initially designed for training purposes remarkably aligns with effective pattern implementation, offering a more ‘mechanical’ approach. Let's explore together how Object Calisthenics can elevate the design of your tactical DDD patterns, offering concrete help for those venturing into DDD for the first time!

Effective Application Security in Software Delivery lifecycle using Deployment Firewall and DBOM
The modern software delivery process (or the CI/CD process) includes many tools, distributed teams, open-source code, and cloud platforms. Constant focus on speed to release software to market, along with the traditional slow and manual security checks has caused gaps in continuous security as an important piece in the software supply chain. Today organizations feel more susceptible to external and internal cyber threats due to the vast attack surface in their applications supply chain and the lack of end-to-end governance and risk management.
The software team must secure its software delivery process to avoid vulnerability and security breaches. This needs to be achieved with existing tool chains and without extensive rework of the delivery processes. This talk will present strategies and techniques for providing visibility into the true risk of the existing vulnerabilities, preventing the introduction of security issues in the software, resolving vulnerabilities in production environments quickly, and capturing the deployment bill of materials (DBOM).
Speakers:
Bob Boule
Robert Boule is a technology enthusiast with PASSION for technology and making things work along with a knack for helping others understand how things work. He comes with around 20 years of solution engineering experience in application security, software continuous delivery, and SaaS platforms. He is known for his dynamic presentations in CI/CD and application security integrated in software delivery lifecycle.
Gopinath Rebala
Gopinath Rebala is the CTO of OpsMx, where he has overall responsibility for the machine learning and data processing architectures for Secure Software Delivery. Gopi also has a strong connection with our customers, leading design and architecture for strategic implementations. Gopi is a frequent speaker and well-known leader in continuous delivery and integrating security into software delivery.

Some retailers, including the UK-based chain All Saints, offer an in-store kiosk (or in All Saints, iPad) where customers can order articles that aren’t in stock at that location from their online store. This takes advantage of the customer’s in-store urge to buy, and is far more immediate and effective than sending them to another location to make their purchase. It also introduces brick-and-mortar customers to the online property.
