Digibury - Lifelong Learning through the Idiom of WesterosDavid Walker
The document discusses the importance of lifelong learning and provides statistics about lifelong learning engagement. It notes that most formal education ends in one's early 20s but that acquiring new skills and knowledge throughout life is important for career success and flexibility. However, barriers like time, money, lack of information, and location often prevent people from continuing to learn. It provides tips for becoming a lifelong learner such as setting goals, asking questions, and finding learning groups. Examples from the TV show Game of Thrones are used to illustrate how characters may have benefited from additional education.
This document discusses open source approaches to education including pedagogy, curriculum resources, professional development, and policy. It explores learning theories like constructivism and connectivism. It also examines apprenticeship models for skills development and knowledge creation in schools. Several perspectives are provided on the role of technology and whether schools need dedicated ICT investments given students' own access to devices and online resources. Open source is positioned as a means to foster collaboration and sharing of expertise among educators.

Go Global: Get Real with Web 2.0 June 2010Go Global
This document discusses lessons learned from using Web 2.0 technologies in Australian businesses. It notes that while some projects failed or were seen as fads, others succeeded in driving business results by enabling online learning, communication, and collaboration. It emphasizes that technology alone is not the answer and that gaining buy-in from stakeholders is important for success. The key lessons are that training solves problems when return on investment is demonstrated and that people want to be co-creators in the innovation process.

UMassSafe Traffic Safety Research Program
The goal of this research effort was to produce a ranked list of Massachusetts roadway corridors, weighted by crash frequency and severity. An Equivalent Property Damage Only (EPDO) crash weighting formula was derived to equate the cost to society by using the maximum personal injury level in the crash. Analysis was conducted across all major Massachusetts roadways in one-mile segments, followed by the completion of a rolling-corridor statistical analysis which looked at ten consecutive one-mile segments. Tools that had been utilized previously for similar analysis were not successful in this case, so the research team developed a unique methodology, requiring the manual splitting of all roads into similarly sized segments, then using a “join” command to sum the EPDO value of any crash within the designated buffer. Although improvements of the methodology are ongoing, the research team is successfully implementing the results in a targeted enforcement safety campaign being undertaken by the state police.

The document provides a summary of the history and development of computers. It discusses how Charles Babbage conceived of the first general-purpose computer in the early 19th century, and how early computers used mechanical and electromechanical methods for calculation. The modern computer age began in the 1930s-40s with the development of programmable, electronic digital computers using vacuum tubes. The first programmable electronic computer was Colossus, built in 1943 to decrypt messages. ENIAC, completed in 1945, was the first general-purpose electronic computer. The development of stored-program architectures in the late 1940s eliminated the need for re-wiring to change programs. Transistors replaced vacuum tubes in computers starting in 1955,
