9 foods to help balance blood sugar levelskittycolbert7
When a person has diabetes, either their body does not produce enough insulin, or it cannot use the insulin correctly, so glucose accumulates in the blood. High levels of blood glucose can cause a range of symptoms, from exhaustion to heart disease.
One way to control blood sugar is to eat a healthful diet. Generally, foods and drinks that the body absorbs slowly are best because they do not cause spikes and dips in blood sugar.
The glycemic index (GI) measures the effects of specific foods on blood sugar levels. People looking to control their levels should pick foods with low or medium GI scores.
A person can also pair foods with low and high GI scores to ensure that a meal is balanced.
Below are some of the best foods for people looking to maintain healthy blood sugar levels.

The pancreas is invaluable to us. They carry out critical functions and they need to work seamlessly for us to stay hale and healthy. But, due to a variety of factors like alcohol consumption, genes, obesity, medications etc, the composition and working of the pancreas get altered, causing pancreatitis. This makes the pancreas work overtime, which may aggravate the pain and symptoms of a person already suffering from the disease.
But, fear not, we are here. It’s possible to effectively mitigate pain with a natural, balanced diet.
We, at Ayurveda Pancreatitis Clinic, have been treating patients with pancreatitis for several years and have a 100% effective, natural diet curated for you. Let’s understand how digestion is different in a person affected with pancreatitis and go over the foods you need to take to restore proper pancreatic functioning.

Flu Vaccine Alert in Bangalore Karnatakaaddon Scans
As flu season approaches, health officials in Bangalore, Karnataka, are urging residents to get their flu vaccinations. The seasonal flu, while common, can lead to severe health complications, particularly for vulnerable populations such as young children, the elderly, and those with underlying health conditions.
Dr. Vidisha Kumari, a leading epidemiologist in Bangalore, emphasizes the importance of getting vaccinated. "The flu vaccine is our best defense against the influenza virus. It not only protects individuals but also helps prevent the spread of the virus in our communities," he says.
This year, the flu season is expected to coincide with a potential increase in other respiratory illnesses. The Karnataka Health Department has launched an awareness campaign highlighting the significance of flu vaccinations. They have set up multiple vaccination centers across Bangalore, making it convenient for residents to receive their shots.
To encourage widespread vaccination, the government is also collaborating with local schools, workplaces, and community centers to facilitate vaccination drives. Special attention is being given to ensuring that the vaccine is accessible to all, including marginalized communities who may have limited access to healthcare.
Residents are reminded that the flu vaccine is safe and effective. Common side effects are mild and may include soreness at the injection site, mild fever, or muscle aches. These side effects are generally short-lived and far less severe than the flu itself.
Healthcare providers are also stressing the importance of continuing COVID-19 precautions. Wearing masks, practicing good hand hygiene, and maintaining social distancing are still crucial, especially in crowded places.
Protect yourself and your loved ones by getting vaccinated. Together, we can help keep Bangalore healthy and safe this flu season. For more information on vaccination centers and schedules, residents can visit the Karnataka Health Department’s official website or follow their social media pages.
Stay informed, stay safe, and get your flu shot today!

The prostate is an exocrine gland of the male mammalian reproductive system
It is a walnut-sized gland that forms part of the male reproductive system and is located in front of the rectum and just below the urinary bladder
Function is to store and secrete a clear, slightly alkaline fluid that constitutes 10-30% of the volume of the seminal fluid that along with the spermatozoa, constitutes semen
A healthy human prostate measures (4cm-vertical, by 3cm-horizontal, 2cm ant-post ).
It surrounds the urethra just below the urinary bladder. It has anterior, median, posterior and two lateral lobes
It’s work is regulated by androgens which are responsible for male sex characteristics
Generalised disease of the prostate due to hormonal derangement which leads to non malignant enlargement of the gland (increase in the number of epithelial cells and stromal tissue)to cause compression of the urethra leading to symptoms (LUTS

New Directions in Targeted Therapeutic Approaches for Older Adults With Mantl...i3 Health
i3 Health is pleased to make the speaker slides from this activity available for use as a non-accredited self-study or teaching resource.
This slide deck presented by Dr. Kami Maddocks, Professor-Clinical in the Division of Hematology and
Associate Division Director for Ambulatory Operations
The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center, will provide insight into new directions in targeted therapeutic approaches for older adults with mantle cell lymphoma.
STATEMENT OF NEED
Mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) is a rare, aggressive B-cell non-Hodgkin lymphoma (NHL) accounting for 5% to 7% of all lymphomas. Its prognosis ranges from indolent disease that does not require treatment for years to very aggressive disease, which is associated with poor survival (Silkenstedt et al, 2021). Typically, MCL is diagnosed at advanced stage and in older patients who cannot tolerate intensive therapy (NCCN, 2022). Although recent advances have slightly increased remission rates, recurrence and relapse remain very common, leading to a median overall survival between 3 and 6 years (LLS, 2021). Though there are several effective options, progress is still needed towards establishing an accepted frontline approach for MCL (Castellino et al, 2022). Treatment selection and management of MCL are complicated by the heterogeneity of prognosis, advanced age and comorbidities of patients, and lack of an established standard approach for treatment, making it vital that clinicians be familiar with the latest research and advances in this area. In this activity chaired by Michael Wang, MD, Professor in the Department of Lymphoma & Myeloma at MD Anderson Cancer Center, expert faculty will discuss prognostic factors informing treatment, the promising results of recent trials in new therapeutic approaches, and the implications of treatment resistance in therapeutic selection for MCL.
Target Audience
Hematology/oncology fellows, attending faculty, and other health care professionals involved in the treatment of patients with mantle cell lymphoma (MCL).
Learning Objectives
1.) Identify clinical and biological prognostic factors that can guide treatment decision making for older adults with MCL
2.) Evaluate emerging data on targeted therapeutic approaches for treatment-naive and relapsed/refractory MCL and their applicability to older adults
3.) Assess mechanisms of resistance to targeted therapies for MCL and their implications for treatment selection

RESULTS: Overall life span (LS) was 2252.1±1742.5 days and cumulative 5-year survival (5YS) reached 73.2%, 10 years – 64.8%, 20 years – 42.5%. 513 LCP lived more than 5 years (LS=3124.6±1525.6 days), 148 LCP – more than 10 years (LS=5054.4±1504.1 days).199 LCP died because of LC (LS=562.7±374.5 days). 5YS of LCP after bi/lobectomies was significantly superior in comparison with LCP after pneumonectomies (78.1% vs.63.7%, P=0.00001 by log-rank test). AT significantly improved 5YS (66.3% vs. 34.8%) (P=0.00000 by log-rank test) only for LCP with N1-2. Cox modeling displayed that 5YS of LCP significantly depended on: phase transition (PT) early-invasive LC in terms of synergetics, PT N0—N12, cell ratio factors (ratio between cancer cells- CC and blood cells subpopulations), G1-3, histology, glucose, AT, blood cell circuit, prothrombin index, heparin tolerance, recalcification time (P=0.000-0.038). Neural networks, genetic algorithm selection and bootstrap simulation revealed relationships between 5YS and PT early-invasive LC (rank=1), PT N0—N12 (rank=2), thrombocytes/CC (3), erythrocytes/CC (4), eosinophils/CC (5), healthy cells/CC (6), lymphocytes/CC (7), segmented neutrophils/CC (8), stick neutrophils/CC (9), monocytes/CC (10); leucocytes/CC (11). Correct prediction of 5YS was 100% by neural networks computing (area under ROC curve=1.0; error=0.0).
CONCLUSIONS: 5YS of LCP after radical procedures significantly depended on: 1) PT early-invasive cancer; 2) PT N0--N12; 3) cell ratio factors; 4) blood cell circuit; 5) biochemical factors; 6) hemostasis system; 7) AT; 8) LC characteristics; 9) LC cell dynamics; 10) surgery type: lobectomy/pneumonectomy; 11) anthropometric data. Optimal diagnosis and treatment strategies for LC are: 1) screening and early detection of LC; 2) availability of experienced thoracic surgeons because of complexity of radical procedures; 3) aggressive en block surgery and adequate lymph node dissection for completeness; 4) precise prediction; 5) adjuvant chemoimmunoradiotherapy for LCP with unfavorable prognosis.

Editor's Notes
THE DIGESTIVE SYSTEM: OUR LIFELINE TO GOOD NUTRITION AND OPTIMAL HEALTHEverything vital to life (except oxygen) enters the body by the digestive tract, a 25-30-foot (7.5-9-meter) tube with specialized regions — mouth, esophagus, stomach, small intestine, colon, rectum, and anus. Along the way, the salivary glands, gall bladder, liver and pancreas provide essential secretory products for digestion. Fully HALF of the vitally important Six Stages of Nutrition — digestion, absorption, and elimination — take place in the digestive tract. If this system is not in good working order, even the best diet will do us little good. Efficient “processing” all along the way — from ingestion, digestion, and absorption of foods to excretion of wastes — requires a delicate balance of give and take. The gastrointestinal tract also is a prominent part of the immune system. A properly functioning digestive system is absolutely critical to health.
Diet is what we eat, but nutrition is what our cells and tissues actually receive. Nutrients pass through six separate and distinct stages as our body works to support nutrition in each cell. Each of these stages must operate efficiently to attain optimum nutrition for the entire body. With this in mind, GNLD’s Scientific Advisory Board formulates each GNLD nutritional supplement to support one or more of these vital stages so cells may receive the balanced nutrition they need.THE SIX STAGES OF NUTRITIONDIETA good diet is the first step to ensuring our bodies receive the proper balance of nutrients necessary for optimal health. Diet consists of all the foods, liquids, and supplements that we consume daily. Our diets sometimes fall short of the nutritional ideal. The goal of GNLD’s nutritional supplement program is to improve the overall quality of the diet so that the basic nutrients important for good health are available in abundance and inbalance every day. Supplementation can go a long way towards filling dietary “gaps.”DIGESTIONDigestion begins with chewing and includes the action of acids and enzymes. It is the process by which complex foods are broken down into simple substances that the body can use for energy and support of cells and tissues. For instance, lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates are broken into fatty acid, amino acid, and simple sugar building blocks, respectively. Each GNLD product is formulated for easy and complete digestion. Specific ingredients, such as enzymes or nutrients that improve digestion, are included in our products. Additionally, our tableting technologies assure rapid disintegration and dissolution, making tablet digestion easier. GNLD has also formulated a line of digestive supplements to support efficient digestion naturally and to avoid or relieve the discomfort that can accompany incomplete digestion.ABSORPTIONAbsorption is the process by which the products of digestion — simple sugars, amino acids, fatty acids, vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, etc. — pass through the lining of the intestinal wall and are taken directly into the body’s circulatory system. While most nutrients are taken directly into the bloodstream, lipids and lipid-soluble nutrients take a less direct path to the circulatory system. These nutrients are first absorbed into the circulation via the lymphatic system. Each GNLD product is formulated for easy absorption, providing essential nutrients to the bloodstream where they are then carried to all the cells of the body.CIRCULATIONTransporting the absorbed nutrients to each cell of the body is the role of the circulatory system. We may be eating properly, digesting properly and absorbing nutrients properly, but if our circulation is impaired, nutrients may not reach their cellular destinations. GNLD’s Scientific Advisory Board recognizes the crucial role the blood and circulatory system play in assuring cells receive good nutrition. They have formulated GNLD nutritional supplements to support optimal functioning of the body’s lifeline to health.ASSIMILATIONAssimilation is the delicate process by which nutrients are passed through the membranes which surround each living cell. For the body’s cells to grow, repair, and rebuild themselves, proper assimilation is essential. For this process to take place, cells —especially their membranes — must be healthy. Many scientists believe that aging of organs and tissues occurs when cells deteriorate faster than the body can repair them. Proper assimilation of nutrients is essential for cellular repair. GNLD incorporates vital lipids and sterols into its formulations to support the cells’ ability to assimilate nutrients. The familiar phrase “you are what you eat” can be more properly restated as “you are what your cells actually assimilate.”ELIMINATIONThe final stage of nutrition is the efficient elimination of wastes from the body. Elimination begins at the cellular level and is completed through many other metabolically-active areas such as the skin, kidneys, lungs, and colon. It is essential that wastes are completely and regularly eliminated from the body. GNLD products have been formulated to help the cells and the body eliminate wastes efficiently and naturally.
Here’s what happens to food as it travels through the digestive system:THE MOUTHDigestion starts in the mouth, where chewing breaks large pieces of food into smaller ones and mixes them with saliva, which contains enzymes that begin to break down carbohydrates.THE STOMACHIn the stomach, food is broken down into smaller and smaller particles by mechanical, chemical, and enzymatic means. The stomach secretes hydrochloric acid and protein digesting enzymes (acid-stable proteases). The hydrochloric acid “opens up” protein molecules so that protein — digesting enzymes can work on them. It also transforms inactive pepsinogen into active, protein-digesting pepsin. Working together, acids and enzymes convert food into a semi-fluid paste of partially digested nutrients called chyme.THE SMALL INTESTINENext the chyme moves into the small intestine, where digestion is completed and absorption begins. Here the environment of the digestive tract undergoes a dramatic change: Whereas the stomach is strongly acidic, the small intestine secretes bicarbonate and has a neutral to slightly alkaline pH. As different enzymes are triggered by different pH levels, different enzymes are active at different sites throughout the digestive tract. The pancreas and intestinal walls secrete enzymes to digest carbohydrates, proteins, and fats. Moreover, 90-95% of all nutrient absorption occurs in the small intestine.THE COLONFood then moves to the colon (large intestine), where water is removed and wastes (both food wastes and metabolic wastes from cells) are concentrated, stored, and excreted. Because most of the food has already been digested and absorbed in the small intestine, the only nutrients left are small amounts of carbohydrates, non-digestible protein residues, and fiber. The dense population of “good” bacteria resident in the colon subsists on these food residues and helps keep the digestive tract healthy by inhibiting the growth of “bad” bacteria.
The salivary glands, gall bladder, liver and pancreas provide essential secretory products for digestion. Salivary glands make our saliva, which contains enzymes that start the break down of carbohydrates. The liver produces bile, essential for the break down of fats, and the bile is then stored in the gall bladder. The pancreas secretes digestive enzymes to help with the digestion of fats (lipase), starches (amylase) and proteins (proteases such as trypsin and chymotrypsin). It also secretes an aqueous bicarbonate solution to help neutralize the stomach acid entering the small intestine.
Digestion, the second of the Six Stages of Nutrition, is the process by which foods are broken down into nutritional “building blocks” small enough to be absorbed through the intestinal wall and into the bloodstream for distribution and utilization for energy and cellular support. Complex foods — lipids, proteins, and carbohydrates — are broken down into simpler substances — fatty acid, amino acid, and simple sugar “building blocks,” respectively. The digestive system uses different means to break down foods into useable nutrients:Physical — The body mechanically breaks down food in the mouth with chewing and in the stomach and intestines with churning.Chemical — Throughout the digestive tract, different chemicals (hydrochloric acid in the stomach, bicarbonate in the small intestine, bile salts and acids, etc.) and biochemicals (enzymes such as amylase to digest carbohydrate, lipase to digest fat, and protease to digest protein) act on foods to break them down.Beneficial microorganisms - Intestinal Flora — Beneficial intestinal bacteria (“good” bacteria) free some nutrients from food. They also produce small amounts of vitamin K and B-vitamins. In addition, they discourage the growth of disease-causing (“bad”) bacteria and pathogenic fungi, and improve the balance of microorganisms that normally inhabit the intestines. If digestion is inefficient, your body cannot extract the full nutritional value from the foods you eat. If even part of the digestive system is not functioning properly, digestion, absorption, and elimination may become compromised.
The factors that impact and can impair healthy digestion include – Poor eating habits – poor food choicesAging – digestive functions tend to slow down as we ageStressExcess alcohol consumption, smokingIllness/diseaseUse of certain drugs such as antibiotics – create flora imbalancesGenetics – certain autoimmune digestive illnesses such as Crones Disease are hereditary
The common symptoms of digestive distress include –HeartburnFlatulenceBloatingDiarrheaConstipationUpset stomach
COMMON PROBLEMS WITH DIGESTIONPROBLEM #1: TOO LITTLE HYDROCHLORIC ACIDHypochlorhydria — too little hydrochloric acid in the stomach — is a common digestive disorder. Around age 30, the stomach begins to secrete less hydrochloric acid. This decline continues over the years. Overeating, excessive alcohol, or the habitual use of antacids may also dilute the concentration of stomach acid, reducing the total amount of hydrochloric acid available for digestion. Without sufficient hydrochloric acid, most foods cannot be broken down enough to release certain nutrients for absorption. Or nutrients whose carriers require an acid environment in the stomach may not be absorbed efficiently later on in the intestines. The result may be wasted nutrients, intestinal discomfort, or medical problems. Therefore, even if the diet is nutrient-rich, incomplete digestion can contribute to a nutrient deficiency. Many people believe that indigestion results from excess stomach acid, an assumption that is understandable given the “burning” sensation often associated with stomach distress. Acid insufficiency, however, is a much more common cause of indigestion. Food that is only partially digested is hindered in its movement through the digestive tract.PROBLEM #2: OVERBURDENED ENZYME SUPPLIES At times we overindulge in the wrong kinds of foods. Or we eat too fast. Too much food may overburden the capacity of a limited supply of digestive enzymes to break down complex foods into their simpler components.PROBLEM #3: TOO LITTLE LACTASELactose is a sugar found in milk and other dairy products. The digestive enzyme that breaks it into components small enough to absorb and utilize is called lactase. Insufficient lactase may result in lactose malabsorption, or intolerance, characterized by abdominal pain, bloating, flatulence, and diarrhea. The severity of the symptoms varies depending on the amount of lactose ingested and the degree of the enzyme deficiency. Lactase added to foods may reduce discomfort associated with lactose malabsorption.PROBLEM #4: UNBALANCED INTESTINAL FLORAWhen beneficial good bacteria are destroyed by poor diet choices, use of antibiotics and other prescription and OTC pharmaceuticals, stress, and poor health, disease-promoting microorganisms can take over and wreak havoc on the digestive and immune system. A yeast infection is a good example of this. PROBLEM #5: NOT ENOUGH FIBERA high-fiber diet helps keep intestinal function smooth and regular and supports optimal health. Dietary fiber does more than just contribute to the feeling of “fullness.” It increases the bulk of the intestinal contents, speeding their transit through the intestines and increasing the frequency of elimination. It also supports the metabolic activities of “good” bacteria and binds bile acids and cholesterol. Populations consuming high fiber diets have a low incidence of intestinal disorders such as diverticulitis, polyps, colitis, hemorrhoids, and cancer. However, despite fiber’s many proven benefits, most people don’t get anywhere near the 20-35 gm of dietary fiber recommended by the National Cancer Institute. The average person only consumes 12 gm of fiber per day.PROBLEM #6: Stress induced imbalanceStress is a major cause of digestive imbalance and digestive system illness.
The market for over-the-counter digestive aids is in the millions. While many of the common approaches to address digestive troubles may temporarily treat the symptoms, they don’t address the long-term cause of the problems. And as the symptoms reappear, people increase their consumption of digestive aids, leading to a longterm heavy use which can make the underlying problem worse.
Digestive health can be improved with a well balanced diet high in fresh fruits and vegetables, legumes, healthy fats, and whole grains. A healthy diet should be low in or ideally devoid of high fat foods, preserved, cured and salted foods, red meat and problem foods.
EXCLUSIVELY FROM GNLD: DIGESTIVE SUPPLEMENTS YOU CAN STOMACHSafe and gentle, GNLD’s digestive supplements are formulated to support the natural activities of the digestive system. Based in nature and backed by Science, they address the underlying causes of digestive troubles, not just the symptoms. Along with appropriate food choices, they contribute to the stability of the gastrointestinal environment and promote optimal digestive function in the stomach, intestine and colon. GNLD has formulated a series of leading-edge products to address the most common “problem areas” within the digestive tract. Employing the most recent scientific findings and selecting only the finest natural ingredients, the GNLD Scientific Advisory Board has created a product line of digestive aids to provide complete and balanced support for the entire system. To support the natural balance of the digestive tract, our products provide vital acids, enzymes, “good” bacteria, fiber, and other healthful factors. Plant-sourced and naturally derived ingredients work with the body to enhance digestion so that you are able to unlock the complete nutritional power of the foods you eat.

GNLD’s Beta-Zyme has a “one-two” punch that attacks digestive ailments where they begin, in the stomach and the intestine. Beta-Zyme contains enzymes that support the body’s ability to digest carbohydrates, fats and proteins. Composed of two different GNLD digestive aides, Beta-Zyme attacks the cause of digestive discomfort, not just the symptoms.Turn Indigestion into “Pro-Digestion”.
Beneficial (“good”) intestinal bacteria promote health, discourage the growth of disease-causing (“bad”) bacteria and pathogenic fungi, and improve the balance of microbes which normally inhabit our intestines. Many beneficial bacteria transform naturally occurring sugars, especially lactose, into lactic acid, promoting a more balanced and stable intestinal environment. As one of the most abundant sources of lactose is milk, these beneficial bacteria have been used for thousands of years to produce yogurt, cheese, and fermented milks. Both science and folklore support healthful roles for these foods. GNLD’s supplement of beneficial bacteria, Acidophilus Plus, combines potency with technology to guarantee that live organisms survive the stomach acid and reach the intestines to deliver five billion viable organisms capable of supporting optimal digestive tract function.

Problems with Elimination:Poor food choicesDiets low in fiberConstipationIrregularityDiscomfort The presence of fiber in the GI tract increases fecal bulk, which may dilute the concentration of cancer-causing substances in some foods. Fibers actually reduce the amount of time fecal bulk is present in the GI tract, which reduces the length of time the GI tract is exposed to harmful substances. In addition, fiber-rich diets can reduce intestinal pressure, which can lead to diverticulosis, a condition marked by small inflammations within the GI tract.Fiber is also helpful in preventing constipation. Because fiber attracts and holds water in the GI tract, fecal bulk increases and as a result, keeps you “regular”.
Scientific research has shown that a diet low in saturated fat and cholesterol and high in fruits, vegetable, and grain products contain fiber that may:Reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer, a disease associated with many factors.Reduce your risk of heart disease, a disease associated with many factors, by helping to lower blood cholesterol.Help regulate blood sugarHelp control weight gain by promoting satiety
